COME TO THE FEAST “On this mountain, the Lord of hosts / will provide for all peoples / a feast of rich food and choice wines” (Isaiah 25:6). That’s what Isaiah tells us today. God is putting together a huge party for “all peoples,” to “wipe away / the tears from every face” (Isaiah 25:8). And what does Jesus tell us? The reign of God, he says, “may be likened to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son” (Matthew 22:2). When the guests didn’t come, the king had his servants go out “into the main roads and invite to the feast whomever you find” (Matthew 22:9). We are called to deliver that invitation. One of the themes woven into today’s liturgy is that of divine generosity. Asleep to reality, people often think they have “earned” what they have. In our better moments, though, we know that all our gifts—even the spiritual gifts—come through God’s generosity. Our vocation is to invite people, to remind them the tickets aren’t for sale. We can only show up and say thank you.
Book Discussion Group With
Fr. Julio Adult Faith,
Growing in Wisdom and Understanding By: Diarmuid O’Murchu
Every Tuesday Morning and Evening
Oct. 31 through Feb. 16 (Morning session at 9:30 at St. Clement and Evening Session at 7:00 at
Annunciation)
Diarmuid O’Murchu is a Catholic religious priest and a member of the Sacred Heart Missionary Order. He is a social psychologist, social scientist, and a leader in Adult Faith Development. This book and discussion is for adults who are interested in developing their faith. Fr. O’Murchu “boldly points out dimensions of conventional religion which no longer inspire or offer hope, and is visionary in offering a multitude of approaches that nurture a more mature faith – a faith for adults. The result is a book that empowers faith-seekers to grow in wisdom and grace, and that enables churches to use their resources to strengthen the faith of their people at a time of great change in how people think about institutional religion.” The book is divided into fifteen chapters and an introduction. Each chapter is about ten to eleven pages long. We will read and discuss one chapter per week. Each chapter ends with three areas for discussion: conventional inherited wisdom, embedded codependency, and adult empowerment. These areas will be the foundation of our discussions. It is my hope that many of you will take advantage of this unique and rich opportunity for developing your Adult Faith. The book may be purchased on Amazon.com.
