As a business owner you know you can’t succeed alone. Even though you have a desirable product or service and a solid business structure, it’s not enough. You are still not guaranteed success.

There are many other components necessary for your company to be both successful and stable. You need a steady stream of new customers and a large following of repetitive customers. It is important to continuously market your company and the products and services you sell to let others to know you exist. Most importantly, it is critical to educate and provide consumers with a reason to do business with you rather than with your competitors. In addition, your company’s finances, human resources, property and equipment management, technology and everything else associated with operating your company need to be properly managed. Also, it takes capital to move forward. Success requires continual upgrades, modifications and adaptations in all that you do. Without those considerations, your company becomes just a sieve. It is the balancing act you face everyday as a business owner.

Tradebank becomes critical to your success in the administration of all these phases of your company. Tradebank’s trading network is comprised of an abundance of business owners who are masters in their industry and willing to share their knowledge and experience with you though Tradebank. Experts in advertising, marketing, property maintenance, computer and Internet support, accountants, mechanics, builders, retailers, entertainers, health care providers, attorneys, printers, restaurateurs, and many others all want to do business with you through Tradebank and assist you in achieving

MY: You have seen a myriad of barter transactions in the 15 years you have been a Tradebank Franchise Owner. The focus of this issue of The Trade Street Journal is “Realize the Fruits Of Your Labor With Tradebank”. How do you advise clients to use Tradebank to maximize the “fruits of their labors”?

MC: It all begins with attitude. We all need to focus on what we can do, rather than what we can’t. Tradebank expands those “can do” opportunities. There are so many opportunities for Tradebank clients to help themselves and others. First, you have to indentify which areas of your business or life you want to improve and write out your goals. I am a firm believer in putting goals on paper rather than just thinking about them. Once you have it on paper, you know what to do. Then you can focus on finding the answers you need to meet your goals. If you need more cash, then find Tradebank clients who can assist you with that. If you need more business, sit down with a Tradebank PR firm, or advertising representatives and develop a plan to get more business. If you have trouble delivering your product, find someone who can better handle your shipping. If you need to improve your health and get fit, call the Tradebank clients who specialize in health and fitness. If you need a vacation, do it with Tradebank. It is all a matter of trusting other people who are experts in their field and allowing them to help you through Tradebank.

The same holds true on the flip side. You have to portray that you are someone others want to do business with. Potential customers need to have confidence in you that you will take care of them properly. You need to understand how to motivate others to do business with you. I don’t mean “motivate” so much in your words or in a material form, but motivate them to do business with you from your positive attitude, your confidence, and from your enthusiasm. If you are always negative about your life, your money and your business, people will not want to be around you. People are attracted to positive productive people.

Just realize that there is an abundance of “fruit” available to you through Tradebank when you are positive and open minded to recognize it.

Northwest Georgia

Kyle Walters is the new franchise owner of Tradebank of Northwest Georgia, which includes Bartow, Cherokee and Pickens Counties. Walters is no stranger to Tradebank. When he lived in Knoxville, one of Walters’ friends was a Tradebank client and he saw first hand the benefits of barter, although as vice president of a national mortgage company at the time, he was unable to become a client himself. A couple years later, Walters moved to Georgia and was ready for a career change. Even though his friend had moved to California, Walters remembered Tradebank. Walters included Tradebank as he researched many diverse franchise opportunities and found that Tradebank provided him the career opportunity he was seeking. “My background and experience are in the financial arena, and Tradebank allows me to build on what I know and take it to the next level to help business owners grow their business and improve their bottom line. I love that we create a powerful network of entrepreneurs who have embraced the timeless concept of barter and in that network we have our own strong currency that exists regardless of the external market conditions. The variety and abundance of goods and services available to barter make Tradebank opportunities limitless. Everything about Tradebank is based on Win/Win relationships and I love it!" The Northwest Georgia region was formed by Tradebank over 20 years ago. There is a core base of active traders in the area on which Walters plans on growing. “My intention is to add new businesses to the Tradebank network and at the same time begin to establish long term relationships with our existing clients. Just as I help our clients build their business, I appreciate their help in building mine. I am looking forward to working with the clients in a new way, hopefully bringing some overall great business tips to all. We all have to work as a team if we are to survive this economic turmoil, so I plan on doing more than being just the "barter man". I want to partner in marketing ideas for the entire group. There are lot's of exciting things planned!"

Walters was raised in Louisville. He has

lived in Knoxville, Memphis and now Northwest Georgia so he is familiar with several of the major Tradebank markets. “I love to travel and one of the benefits of Tradebank is my Tradebank dollars can be spent in any region,” says Walters. “I want to make sure our clients understand the dual nature of trading opportunities both in their backyard as well as throughout the entire Tradebank network.” “The more I work with Kyle, the more I see by working together as neighboring Regional Owners we can expand trading opportunities for everyone; existing and new clients will benefit,” says Ashby Green, owner of Tradebank of Cobb and Gwinnett. “Our goal is to not only respect the local communities within our regions

but also develop a synergy that creates broader based barter opportunities,” says Green. Todd Gerry, president of Tradebank Franchising Corporation says, “We are fortunate to be working with Kyle. We believe he has the winning edge and the drive to provide first class service and the desire to help business owners improve their cash flow and increase their profitability.”

Your Choice - Wine or Whineby Mark Caldwell

The other day I was reflecting on the events that have recently taken place in my life. I assume many of you have had challenges similar to what I have had regarding health and in my business and personal life. As I was thinking about the impact they have had on me, I reminded myself of something that is easy to lose sight of: We may not be able to totally control the events of our lives, but we can control our responses to them. Although it gets to all of us sometimes, we have to stay strong and remember to enjoy life. We all need to lighten up and still be productive.

Some people fall into the habit of getting way too serious, overreacting, and blowing things out of proportion, rather than just taking a deep breath and responding rather than overreacting. There are some people who whine and complain that nothing is right or good enough or everyone is trying to cheat them. They have a “woe is me” attitude. These folks are never happy about anything and find fault with everyone. Their attitude is that they expect the worst and usually get it. Then there are the people who seem to make the most of every situation. They ask themselves and others, “What can we do?” and then do it, rather than focus on what can’t be done. These “wine-ers” are not push-overs; they are wise individuals and astute business people. Wine-ers are appreciative of others and have many successes in their life in spite of obstacles; they are able to turn sour grapes into delicious wine. They expect the best and most times receive it.

My message is, if you are willing to be a “wine-er” rather than a whiner, Tradebank is here to help you. If you are already one of those people who have taught yourself to be positive, then Tradebank can further expand upon your accomplishments using barter. Here are my suggestions based on my own life and my experiences with Tradebank:

• Don’t carry your problems with you. This is true at work and at home. If you are having personal problems, don’t let them interfere with your work. No one wants to do business with someone who constantly complains. The same is true for work issues. Don’t carry your problems home to your family. If you need business and family support, we have Tradebank clients who can assist you.

• Be the type person that others want to be around; the person who lifts everyone’s spirits and brightens their day. Be the person others look forward to seeing. No one likes to be around someone who is miserable and complains. That is true in your business and personal life. Don’t make blanket negative assumptions. Allow people to do what they agreed to do. Try to see the good in everything. If you tend to have a history of continual problems with others, you may want to look in the mirror and ask yourself where you can change your own approach and create a different outcome.

• Show your gratitude and respect for others. It doesn’t have to cost you a lot. Your participation in Tradebank gives you the added incentive and revenue to go the extra mile to brighten someone’s day and show appreciation. Don’t be cheap. This applies to your relationship with your own family, employees, as well as your vendors and customers. Be funny, imaginative, outgoing. Show your appreciation with a cookie bouquet, restaurant or spa certificate, flower arrangement, candy, a surprise vacation or anything else that lets others know you recognize and value them. Your Tradebank Broker can help you. Thanking others today will pay off in the long run. (By the way, don’t forget your Tradebank Broker too, your kindness and gratitude means a lot to them.)

• If you’re not getting, you are probably not giving. This applies to all things from attention to introductions to new customers. Tradebank’s one time sign up fee includes access to one of the most powerful network groups available: your fellow Tradebank clients. When you use the networking resources available through extensive contact with your Tradebank Broker and Regional Owner, attend as many Tradebank functions as possible, seek and develop relationships with other Tradebank clients, you have one of the most powerful networking opportunities to be found. We’re here to help each other by bonding together to introduce each other to more potential customers and new opportunities.

• Educate others about Tradebank. Share the benefits of Tradebank with others so they can assist you in developing trading opportunities.

• Establish employee accounts. Tradebank Affiliate Accounts enable you to not only reward others, but also create an additional set of eyes and ears looking for trading opportunities. The more you know about what other Tradebank clients do, the more trading you are able to do.

• Co-op advertising enables business owners in complementary businesses to assist one another in getting new customers. Strip centers and “Main Streets” are growing in popularity. It makes sense to cross market products and services. Go in on an ad together, pass out supporting marketing materials, create open houses and block parties. Use Tradebank advertisers, graphic designers and printers and pay the invoice with Tradebank. Get reimbursed with cash from a non-Tradebank business who shares your ad.

These are just a few suggestions on ways to use Tradebank to improve your business and most importantly your world and the world of others. Life is too short to be negative. We are all blessed and live in a world of abundance, we just need to recognize the good around us and make sure we savor each moment and show our gratitude to those around us.

Embroidered Expressions will monogram or embroider on virtually anything you want to personalize. They’ve done shirts (both dress and casual), choir robes, uniforms, baby items, towels, and sports bags. Many softball and baseball teams require the player’s uniform number and name to be on their bag and Embroidered Expressions can do that through Tradebank. They can also monogram men’s dress shirts, and they work closely with interior designers to personalize bedding, linens, and special occasion items.

Owner Jessica Engel will monogram or embroider on anything but leather. “When I started my business I decided I could best serve my customers by allowing them to obtain the items or garments they wanted personalized and I would embroider or monogram it for them. Everyone has their own taste, budget, etc. and if I stocked inventory it would only limit my customer’s options. This way I don’t have the hassle of maintaining inventory and can focus on my area of expertise.

‘We do work for clients across

the country. Because everyone is focused on saving money, we offer a “re-embroidery” service. Most of the time we can remove the old stitches and add a new logo on top. When the stitches can’t be properly removed, we apply an appliqué and put the embroidery or monogram on top. This is very popular for those companies who have personalized uniforms or lab coats. The garments are expensive and we can update name or logo changes,” explains Engel. Samples of her work can be found at www.embroideredexpressions.com and they offer free quotes over the telephone.

“As a fairly new business we are really pleased to be part of Tradebank. We just contracted for advertising with Coffee News; and our current cash flow is such that we would have never would been able to make that cash commitment. Tradebank brings us new revenue and we can use that to advertise for additional cash customers,” explains Engel.

Ross Porter, Regional Owner of Tradebank of Denver, will tell you even the sky is not the limit when it comes to ways to use Tradebank trade dollars. While visiting the Atlanta area, Porter wanted to do something through Tradebank that was extra special for his son Nick’s graduation. So Porter took his son, daughter and three interns from Three Dimensional Life (an adventure based Christian center for young men struggling with destructive behaviors, who is also a Tradebank client) with him on a skydiving adventure at Skydive the Farm. “It’s an adventure worth every penny to feel like a bird for ten minutes,” says Porter. “You think you’re brave until you are standing at the doorway of a moving airplane about to hear ‘Jump’”, says Porter with the excitement still fresh. As first time jumpers, the group did tandem jumps where an instructor and student share one parachute system. Skydive the Farm has their own airplanes, a Twin Turbine Engine Super Otter and a Cessna 182. The drop zone is their farm located in in Rockmart, Georgia, northwest of Atlanta. “We all loved the thrill; and the jumpmasters at Skydive the Farm made us feel confident in our ultimate safety even though we were all anxious”, says Porter. Skydive the Farm is owned by Hans and Sandy Paulsen. Hans is a professional jumper and has made over 7,000 jumps. The Paulsens, along with their experienced staff, will make your skydiving adventure one that you will never forget. “Safety, customer satisfaction, and fun are our priorities”, says Sandy Paulsen. “In addition to our tandem jumps for beginners, we also offer the training classes for free fall jumps and jump packages for advanced jumpers. Our rates begin at $179 for a tandem jump and we do offer gift certificates through Tradebank. For those who want their experience video taped, we also have videographers who go on the plane with you”, she explains.

Who Says “The Sky’s The Limit”?

The Paulsens have been Tradebank clients since 2005 and love to use their Tradebank dollars for travel. For more information about skydiving visit their website at www.skydivethefarm.com

Who Says “The Sky’s The Limit”?

Page 9: The Trade Street Journal

We live in a time of real estate juxtaposition. There is an abundance of previously occupied, now vacant, buildings interspersed with newly built strip centers and office plazas which also remain empty. “For Lease” signs are plentiful and represent significant lost revenue due unoccupied space. As the property owner, if you have retail, office or warehouse space, residential or vacation units, offering your property for lease with Tradebank enables you to literally turn empty space into additional revenue. If you have downsized your company, you may not have considered your empty office and warehouse space as an opportunity to generate additional revenue. Furthermore, if you don’t own property, why pay rent in cash when you can pay with Tradebank?

When Lavonda Henry and Charlene Lawrence, the Regional Owners of Tradebank of Indianapolis, were looking for office space, they contacted Scott Yeager, president of Yeager Properties about trading empty office space in one of his buildings. “It seemed like a no-brainer to us, and we were pleased that Scott saw it that way, too”, says Henry. “Yeager has six office complexes and their seventh will open soon. We knew they had put a lot of money into renovating their facilities and had empty space available. It was a perfect mesh of needs and wants.”

Yeager elaborates, “Our niche is providing our tenants smaller individual office space with full service amenities. We are looking for business owners who currently work out of their home or who are looking to relocate. We are delighted to be part of Tradebank. As a business-to-business networking organization, Tradebank offers us both increased public awareness of what we offer and a broader pool of potential prospects and future tenants. Tradebank gives them the motivation to do business with us because we accept Tradebank as rent. Of course, we appreciate the additional revenue. We have a diverse list of things from advertising and marketing to tenant appreciation and enhancements we will be purchasing…all things we normally would not have done if not for Tradebank.”

Matthew Hall, owner of Hall Properties and Heartland Transmission in Wichita explains, “I own enough real estate to know that in today’s economy you have to be flexible if you want to fill vacancies. I know if I don’t fill my vacancies with Tradebank, I’ve lost revenue. I own several businesses and I always want more Tradebank dollars. Tradebank generates additional income for me in rent. We love our Tradebank tenants, one of whom is Trudy and John Schott, Regional Owners of Tradebank of Wichita. “John and I moved into our new offices in July and we love it here,” says Trudy Schott. “We have a fantastic facility in which to operate. Our new offices give our trading partners a convenient place to come to see us and learn what’s new in Tradebank, and we can have Trade Universities and other networking events here. I know Matt appreciates the extra revenue and of course, John and I practice what we preach and see the value in using Tradebank to pay for our rent.”

Fema Shenydman, president of FEMA, Inc. in Louisville, sums it up, “I want to bring more customers into my building and to fill my building with tenants. As long as I have empty space why wouldn’t I trade? I love Tradebank and Trade clients should love using Tradebank for their rent.”
