It’s true, because, using the currentlyempty Manse as a “staging area”, a new, gleaming picket fence is taking shape to replace the fence in front of our cemetery. That fence has been virtually destroyed by weather, Ɵme, and an errant oopsanddriveaway vehicle! Presbyterians are also DFencive! Yes, ably coordinated by Red and Don, a large crew of volunteers has been cuƫng, construcƟng, and painƟng, painƟng, painƟng! And De Fence is a thing of beauty! Okay, that’s all the Fence puns I have for now – yet I am open to hearing more! But there is one more thing to consider – the Spiritual side of all this! While not on the Apostle Paul’s “ocial” lisƟng of Spiritual GiŌs, this volunteer work is a powerful Witness of Faith to God. It says to the literally thousands who walk or drive past PCAS every day that we love God’s Church here and that we intend to maintain it for now and for generaƟons to come, even as it has been provided for us. It is a witness to the praise and glory to God that we oer, to show that our love of the presence of God in this community is important and to be shared. ‐ It is witness to the  me and effort, and yes, even the muscle aches that we can put in to improving our ministry, which is just as       powerful (or more) a message as a sermon or program, because all people can see and relate to this hard work.

So, when the new Fence goes up in the next few weeks, let’s be thankful for those who took the ini a ve,  me, and effort to make it happen.   They are showing us that, whatever gi  or talent we can offer to God, every gi  is a worthy one when it shows the love of a Faith Community to the Community at large!

On a sunny post‐Easter morning, I am moved to offer gra tude to all those who contribute to the worship life of our church. Many are  visible. Others work  relessly behind the scenes to plan and execute myriad facets of our worship.

The Worship Commi ee is to be commended for mee ng (almost) monthly to seek God’s will to evaluate worship completed and plan future services. Members contribute ar cles to the Towne Crier on a rota ng basis. They a end to the paraments (changing them as the liturgical seasons change), inventory and keep organized the Worship Commi ee storage area in the Sanctuary balcony, maintain the music library, and many other tasks. The members of the commi ee are Sandy Cur s, (un l recently ‐ Beverly Davis), Jules Plangere, Susan Peterson, Carol Streeper, Bonnie Tortora, Jen Zeller, and (ex officio) Reid Masters and Tom Robinson.

Those who lead worship and bring God’s Word to us through spoken word and music are called to inspire worshippers and bring them closer to our Lord. Tom Robinson, Reid Masters, the choirs and Elders who assist in worship as liturgists all work with care and imagina on to honor and bring glory to God.

The Deacons manage many prac cal aspects of our worship experience: providing bulle ns, sea ng worshippers, a end‐ing to candles and flowers in the Sanctuary, and always being ready to assist those in need.

Banners are changed by liturgical season, under the direc on of the Worship Commi ee. Special thanks is offered to Elder John Hanley, who recently created the lovely Easter banner now gracing our Sanctuary.

Both Deacons and Elders prepare, serve and clean up for Communion. Willing hands bake the bread (formerly Mary Ellen Wilson’s, and now Jane Wagner’s).

Our Administra ve Assistant creates wonderful printed  orders of worship week a er week. The Sexton keeps the Sanctuary cleaned and orderly.

Our denomina on’s Book of Order, in the sec on  tled Directory for Worship, states that “Chris an worship joyfully ascribes all praise and honor, glory and power to the triune God. In worship the people of God acknowledge God present in the world and in their lives. As they respond to God’s claim and redemp ve ac on in Jesus Christ, believers are transformed and renewed. In worship the faithful offer themselves to God and are equipped for God’s service in that world.” It further says: “Scripture ‐ the Word wri en,  preaching ‐ the Word proclaimed, and the Sacraments ‐ the Word enacted and sealed, bear tes mony to Jesus Christ, the living Word. Through Scripture, proclama on, and  Sacraments, God in Christ is present by the Holy Spirit ac ng to transform, empower, and sustain human lives.”

Many, many thanks to all those who faithfully contribute to our church’s inspiring and upli ing worship life!  Kathleen Healy‐Wedsworth, Chair Worship Commi ee

If we have been listening to what Reverend Tom has been saying in recent sermons, we can’t help but no ce a common thread running through them all.  He’s a slippery character, our pastor.  Just when you think you are hearing a nice feel‐good sermon to take home with you on a lazy Sunday a ernoon, he slips in an oh‐so‐casual reference to  walking the talk.  And like a pebble in the shoe, before too long these messages start to make us feel just the slightest bit uncomfortable don’t they?  Jeez Louise, he wants us to CHANGE!  I think he is talking about living our faith through Chris an Stewardship.  Certainly stewardship is about giving, and yes, that includes giving financially and giving our me to the needs of the church.  But I think Tom is sugges ng that it goes further

In the New Testament Gospels we see example a er example of how our Lord cared for all those in need.  He didn’t pick and choose, and He didn’t give anyone the bum’s rush because maybe it was inconvenient, or He was a bit off that day.  He gave what He had to others, not holding back for His own personal needs or wants.  And He expects us to do the same.    So – assuming we are up to the challenge, and want to make a change ‐ where do we begin?  This may require a change of heart, so we need to be prepared to work at it.  Let’s not be Pharisee‐like and just go through the mo ons. We need to be lovers; lovers of mankind and all of God’s crea on.  A healthy dose of the Holy Spirit comes in mighty handy at this point, and pe oning God through prayer is a pre‐requisite for this course of ac on.  How about star ng close to home, by telling someone dear to you that you love them, and that you appreciate their presence in your life?  Surprisingly, this simple act does not come easily to everyone.  Give it a shot!  Once you get the hang of it, it’s as easy as falling off a log ‐ and very rewarding.  (Always remember too, that person may not be here tomorrow.  Don’t think it can’t happen.)  Let’s use our imagina ons as we keep a vision of God’s kingdom in our thoughts each day.  Send a card for no par cular reason.  Call to check on someone who is alone.  Cook a meal for that person going through a difficult  me.  Give out hugs galore!  Make an old lady giggle and blush!  Opportuni es are all around us.  Bev and I have a saying, where we look for the “the open doors.”  God opens doors for us, providing opportuni es to serve our fellow man and it’s up to us to walk through a door and give it a go.  Or not.  We have free will to choose.  The way I see it is life is God’s gi  to us.  How we live it is our gi  to God.  Glen Baird
