The Tortoise and the Hare

The Tortoise and the HareBy: A-Bark and D-Wood

One day there was a hare and a tortoise. The hare was the cocky fast one. The tortoise was the shy slower one. One morning the tortoise over heard the hare talking about how fast he was and came to check out what he was talking about. After a long period of boasting from the hare, the tortoise had challenged him to a race!

The hare thought the tortoise was crazy for challenging him, but of course, he accepted his offer. This was big news all around the forest. The animals new the hare was the obviously higher advantage, but the tortoise thought other wise. So they met at the starting line to begin the race.

The hare and the tortoise lined up to start the biggest race of their lives. When the starter gun went off, both of the animals took off, but the hare was already out of sight. The tortoise was extremely surprised, but he still went on with his slow pace and tried to catch up with the hare.

The hare had a big lead through much of the race. When he looked back the tortoise was nowhere to be seen. Since the hare was so far ahead, he knew the tortoise had no chance and took a nap on the side of the pathway, but it was a terrible mistake on his part.

The tortoise at his own pace had caught up to the hare, and seen that he was still sleeping on a stump off the pathway. As the hare slept the tortoise kept slowly creeping towards the finish line with the hare this time really far behind him.

The hare woke up and saw that the tortoise took the lead. The hare freaked out and starting running towards the finish line. By the time the hare had reached the finish line the tortoise had already won! It was a great victory for the tortoise and proves that slow and steady wins the race.
