It has been the most active week ever at Torriano! Camden moved up the leaders’ board

to second place in the London Youth Games, winning the football round and showing some really strong form in the basketball. This week we have been doing virtual dance challenges,

making shapes in school and at home and mastering hockey and bicycle challenges too. To keep us on our toes, in the heat wave, Miss Long

and Miss Blanco also organised the wonderful Olympic and Paralympic Games on Thursday.

The children introduced the event with the legendary Olympic torch relay, which they completed at home and around the school. It was a huge amount of fun, focused on teamwork and participation for all. Melita Emanuel-Carr, Team GB Basketball player and Commonwealth Games silver medallist, gave the children an inspirational message about hard work and effort being more important than

talent. We were all completely soaked by the end of the day, as the children planned some of the events themselves – including wet sponges and water pistols! We even had very special roving reporters capturing the Olympic news throughout. Huge thanks to families who participated at home too, making this a really

special day in our school community. Thank you to all participants and especially the amazing Miss Long and Miss Blanco for a fantastic week of Sport! Please take the time to watch this video, which captures the spirit and joy of this event: https://vimeo.com/432801023

On Monday, we celebrated Windrush Day 2020 across the school. Huge thanks to Trish and Tuula who shared their family’s experiences as passengers on the Empire Windrush. We sang songs and adorned the school with bunting and window decorations to commemorate this special event and celebrate diversity in our community. I have attached a parent guide to the Black Lives Matter campaign to this newsletter.

Well done to our special achievers and raffle winners this week. It was a pleasure to welcome EYFS to our second round of Arthur the Author’s Reading Raffle. The reading raffle boxes were full with tickets in the draw this week, showing the enthusiasm of the children and their commitment to reading. You can watch the EYFS and KS1 assembly here and the KS2 assembly here. Prizes are on their way to our winners!

Below are some important dates for the end of term (further details to follow). These include our farewells to the wonderful Year 6, who are currently creating a virtual Y6 performance of the Opera Carmen. There will be a special Leaver’s Assembly followed by a Bubble Barbeque and outdoor Bubble Disco for Y6. The PTA are supporting us to provide a lovely event for our Year 6 children and ensure that they receive the send-off they deserve. Details will be shared with year 6 parents shortly. 10th July: Reports to parents and carers The week of 13th July: Meet the teacher The week of 13th July: School picnic in the grounds 16th July: Leavers Assembly, BBQ and outdoor disco May I remind you that school closes on Friday 17th July at 1pm for the summer break. This week, we celebrated the International Olympic and Paralympic Day with a range of sport activities. The children took part in ‘rowing’,

weight lifting, running and both the high and long jump! They displayed great sportsmanship, resilience and pride in accomplishing their challenges. The message from nursery is: Stay strong, Stay active and Stay healthy!

There was an exciting buzz in the air this week in Reception - partly due to the amazing hot weather but mainly

because it was time for the sporting event of the century - the Torriano Olympics and Paralympics! Preparations began with the ‘Team Beetroot’ and ‘Team Turnip’ athletes making their medals and Olympic torches.

The spectacular sporting event encouraged lots of team work, resilience and fun. It consisted of two races - both of which involved the children getting themselves and each other (and their teachers) very wet! Thanks so much to Carmen and Hannah for organising such a fantastic event!

Year 1 became radio tasio experts this week as part of the National

Sports Week. Radio tasio is a Japanese morning exercise routine. They got super active and stretched their muscles to wake up their brains!

A wonderful week in year 2 full of sport, laughter and learning. We had such a fantastic time doing all of the activities and events for the National

School Sports Week. We feel fit and ready for anything! In our bubbles and online learning we have spent time getting to know the story of Vlad and First World War. Using our conjunction knowledge to write our own sentences about the story which then led to writing our own version.

Here are some photos of the maps year 2 drew of their neighbourhood. We imagined we were showing visitors our local area.

We have had such an active

week in year 3! We made fantastic torches for the relay and had a brilliant day playing fun games and getting WET

at the Torriano Mini Olympic and Paralympic Games!

This week year 4 have been lighting the flames of Olympic and Paralympic glory with National School Sport Week. Riding on the wave of our success in the Race to Health, year 4 created posters, made their own Olympic

torches and came up with games and workouts to rival Joe Wicks! It's so great to know that even though we are apart, we can all be together through the power of sport and the shared buzz of a workout!

This week, Year 5 have had a fantastic week being fit, active and working together. On Monday, to commemorate Windrush Day, the children shared their incredible knowledge about the Windrush and created posters for their windows. To celebrate National School

Sport Week, they created inclusive games to play together and created some in-formative news reports about the event on Thursday. What a week! They have proved themselves to be informed, caring and respectful. Well done, Year 5!

This week has been a memorable week in the world of sport! For NSSW, from learning about the origins of the Olympic games to creating inclusive games for all, we celebrated the power of sport to bring people together. Inspired by the basketball silver medallist, Melita Emanuel-Carr, and our very own amazing Miss Blanco, we learnt about the importance of resilience, togetherness and inclu-sivity to be the best sportspeople we can be. The standout highlights for us were the Olympic torch relay and the water-based sports. It was so much fun getting the teachers wet!

In School and Home Provision

We have celebrated the National School Sport Week and the Olympic Day at home and at school. It has been a week full of active activities. Children made their own games for the Torriano Mini Olympic and Paralympic Games. They found out different facts about the Olympics and made their own Olympic Torches that they then used for our Torriano Torch Relay. On Thursday, the whole of Torriano (at home and in school) took part in our fun and wet Torriano Mini Olympic and Paralympic Games. We started the day with a message from Melita the GB Basketball player. One of the children’s favourite games was ‘Star Wars’ at school and ‘Book Balance’ at home. Children participated in sports-related games during the whole day and some of them even got to be Sports News Reporters.

You can see all these activities and Sports News told by children on our Website or in Google classroom.

London Youth Games Update

We had amazing news after the week 2 chal-lenges. Camden is now 2nd place in London. The Camden ‘Most Val-uable Player’ went to Callum in Y4 and the Torriano Most Valuable player went to Alexandru in Year 2. I wonder who will be the MVP this week? You can find more information on Monday in the Google classroom. This week we have three new challenges. We started the week dancing, we got to ride our bikes and we finished in India dribbling a ball with a hockey stick or any item you could find. We will publish week 3 results next week. We can do this, Camden! We have seen the LYG week 1 results and Camden did amazingly well. We are in the top 2 of the leaderboard with 187 points, (see next page) We will have this week’s results on Monday. Children have been practising the challenges really hard at school and at home. Make sure you visit the PE room for more challenges!
