Hospitals have undergone a dramatic

transformation in the past 20 years.

The development of less intrusive

medical techniques has meant that

patient recovery times have been greatly

reduced. As a result, day surgery clinics

are now a feature of almost all hospitals.

The hospital environment, too, is now a

less intrusive one. No longer clinical and

cold, patient accommodation today is

often of hotel standard. Although there

is a greater reliance on hi-tech support

equipment, this is now designed to blend

into the surroundings, creating a more

relaxed environment for both patients and

medical staff.

The Medilec Range of hospital equipment

has been designed to meet this growing

demand for hospital services and

equipment that are attractive and non-

intrusive. The range brings together

products and expertise from some of the

biggest names in medical and

electrical equipment around the world.

It is the first time that such an extensive

range is available from a single supplier.

The equipment is designed and

manufactured to exacting standards

to ensure compliance for these critical

applications. Standards include AS2500

“Guide to Safer Use of Electricity in

Patient Treatment Areas”, AS3003

“Electrical Installations - Patient

Treatment Areas of Hospitals and

Medical and Dental Practices”, and

AS3190 “Approval and Test Specification

- for Residual Current Devices”.

Medical Service Panels

Within the Medilec range are a variety of

attractive Medical Service Panel (MSP)

systems. MSPs are a convenient way of

providing services such as power, data,

nurse call, medical gas and climate

control to the patient and medical staff.

The Electronic Safety Product (ESP)

Series of MSPs has, over the years,

established itself as an industry standard,

and strong demand for this

range continues.

The latest generation ML2000, ML2164,

ML2144 and ML2157 Series MSPs have

been developed to meet the current

needs of hospitals, which now require a

less intimidating MSP that blends into the

surroundings to create a more relaxed

environment for both patients and

medical staff. The MSPs are based

around incorporating the common

modular size Medilec ML2000 and Clipsal

2000 Series accessories, along with a

variety of products that other

manufacturers develop using the 2000

Series platform. This unique feature

allows MSPs to be quickly and easily

customised to suit the customer's

requirements.

ML2000 Series Flush Mount Moulded System

The ML2000 Series Moulded Medical

Service Panels are a simple and

economical, modular system,

incorporating the modular Medilec

ML2000 and Clipsal 2000 Series

Accessories into a Clipsal 2000 moulded

fl ush surround.

The great advantage of this system is

that every part used to build these panels

is a standard Medilec and Clipsal

accessory that can be purchased

separately. Therefore the installer can

quickly design and build the MSPs on

site. Also, the MSPs are manufactured

using the economical Clipsal 2000 Series

surrounds and wall boxes or wall

mounting plates, greatly reducing costs.

The features are:

• Modular design, simple and fast

to fi t out.

• Very economical and attractive.

• No exposed mounting screws.

• A wide range of colour options to suit

any décor.

• Ability to mount between 1 and 4

components into a surround.

• Allows individual access to each

service without interruption to

other services.

• Extensive ranges of compatible Clipsal

2000 Series Accessories are suitable

for mounting to the service panel.

• The ability to integrate nurse call

system suppliers and gas outlet

manufacturers’ products that are

based on the 2000 Series platform.

• Fixes to standard Clipsal wall boxes or

mounting brackets.

• Complements standard power outlets

and electrical switches in the

installation, based on the Clipsal

ML2000 Series.

ML2164 Series Flush Mounted Metal Plate System

The ML2164 Series Flush Mount Metal

Plate Medical Service Panels are a

simple and economical modular

system, incorporating the modular

Medilec ML2000 and Clipsal 2000 Series

Accessories into a fl ush mount, metal

plate, Medical Service Panel system.

Standard wall boxes and grids can be

easily joined together to produce a

custom length Medical Service Panel to

suit the customer's specialised

requirements. Therefore, special wall box

assemblies incorporating grids and

accessories can be supplied almost

immediately. Only the custom facia is

required to fi nish the installation, which is

supplied at a later stage.

The features are:

• Modular design.

• Ability to join standard components to

ML2144 Series Surface Mounted Metal Plate System

The ML2144 Series Surface Metal

Plate Medical Service Panels are a

simple and economical modular system,

incorporating the modular Medilec

ML2000 and Clipsal 2000 Series

Accessories into a surface mount metal

plate Medical Service Panel system.

The surface mount mounting enclosure

is constructed from MDF or similar

materials (to be supplied by builder).

The great advantage of this system,

when compared to a typical aluminium

extruded or sheet metal surface mounted

trunking system, is that there is a

signifi cant reduction in costs while

still maintaining an attractive surface

mounted enclosure that can easily be

manufactured to a variety of shapes to

suit different applications.

The features are:

ML2157 Series Surface Mounted Trunking System

The ML2157 Series is a modular surface

mounted trunking system that

incorporates the modular Medilec

ML2000 and Clipsal 2000 Series

Accessories into an aluminium extruded

trunking.

The ML2157 Series is primarily used in

areas of hospitals where long lengths

of Medical Service Panels (MSPs) are

required. The advantage of this trunking

system over a flush mount system is that

the services (gas piping and wiring) run

within the trunking and not the wall cavity,

reducing the amount of wall preparation.

The trunking consists of 3, individually

accessible, segregated service channels,

which allow each service installer to work

independently from one another.

The Surface Mount Trunking is available

in four different configurations to suit all

applications. The configurations are:

• Type A: 3 channel trunking

• Type A/RT: 3 channel trunking with top

accessory rail.

• Type B: 3 channel trunking (large gas

channel).

• Type B/RT: 3 channel trunking (large

gas channel) with top accessory rail.

The features are:

• Modern, modular design and attractive

powdercoated finish.

• No exposed mounting screws

• Incorporates 3 segregated service

channels.

Royal Brisbane Hospital, QLD

Medilec ML2164 Series Flush Mount

Medilec Service Panels were installed in

the Royal Brisbane Hospital in

Queensland. A total of over 200 panels

were installed on over 5 floors.

The ML2164 system was used because

standard modular components are

quickly and easily assembled together in

the manufacturing process, achieving the

customer's custom panel requirements.

Only the facias were custom-made, and,

due to the ML2164 system being a grid

mount system, they were able to be

supplied at a later date without effecting

the installation.

Clipsal's local base ensured support was

available any time during the construction

stage, and will continute to be available

now that the hospital has been opened.
