‘people’ - connotations -informal, welcoming, inclusive

‘roam’ implies people are lost! Metaphor – ‘waters’ – referring to society. Provided ambiguity to ensure open interpretation.

‘grown’ implies progress in terms of equality, however, ‘admit’ implies that the writer’s object, society, are reluctant to accept that their ‘old’ view is wrong.

Simile provides a warning generating a threatening tone

‘Savin’ - emotive language generating fear.

Sibilance on ‘s’ reflects the action described in the simile

Refrain – repeated in every verse/stanza to emphasise the writer’s message
