One of fib’s two parent organizations, FIP, held its seventh Congress in New York in 1974, and its twelfth (and penultimate

one before its merger with CEB), in Washington, D.C., in 1994. Now, fib (International Federation for Structural Concrete)

is coming back to the United States with its top event, the four-yearly Congress. fib’s Third International Congress, incorpo-

rating the annual PCI Convention and National Bridge Conference for 2010, will take place in the nation’s capital,

Washington, D.C., and will build on the successful tradition of its 2002 Congress in Osaka, Japan, and the 2006 edition in

Naples, Italy.

Congresses are fib’s high points. Unlike its Symposia, which take place during non-Congress years and focus on specific

themes, Congresses encompass all aspects of structural concrete, bringing together practitioners, researchers, and other experts from all over

the world to share information, knowledge, and experience in all fields of concrete. It is only at Congresses that fib confers its highest award,

the Freyssinet Medal, on one or two individuals for their outstanding technical contributions to structural concrete, and presents its prestigious

Awards for Outstanding Concrete Structures. Last, but not least, the first draft of fib’s 2010 Model Code for concrete structures (the follow-up to

the 1978 and 1990 CEB/FIP Model Codes) will be presented in public and debated for the first time at the Washington Congress.

I would like to invite you to fib’s Third International Congress in Washington, D.C., for a unique opportunity to share information and knowledge,

and to network and mingle socially with thousands of concrete experts from around the world. May is the best time of the year to visit the U.S.

capital. Furthermore, in view of the forthcoming wave of infrastructure projects and the probable recovery of the housing market, it will be the

The fib Congress is the most prestigious international event of the concrete field, and the Third International Congress

promises to be the best one ever. PCI, as lead organization for the fib U.S. Group, is proud to serve as host for the Third

International Congress.

The theme “Think Globally, Build Locally” is an essential tenet of sustainable design and construction, which represents the

next stage in the evolution of design. Concrete structures have inherent advantages with regard to sustainability, which

makes it incumbent on designers and engineers working in concrete to embrace and advance this concept. Accordingly, the

Congress technical program will include the latest in sustainable design concepts and experience.

To think globally, we need to share ideas and collaborate on a global basis. If we are to make effective use of the world’s resources, we cannot

afford to dismiss ideas, technologies, and methods because they were not invented here. The Congress will serve as a salient reminder that sci-

ence and engineering know no national boundaries. We will gather to share our best with one another, thus advancing the whole of our industry

and of society.

I invite you to join us in Washington, D.C., for several days of learning, camaraderie, enjoyment, and thinking globally. I then hope that you will

Since its inception in 1954, the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) has been an important and successful vehicle to bring members

together for the exchange of knowledge and industry promotion. PCI members guide the institute’s efforts in product innovation, new technol-

ogy adaptation, design methods development, training, and quality assurance.

PCI’s annual Convention will be held in conjunction with the fib Congress. Expect to network with precast and prestressed concrete manufacturers

and erectors, industry suppliers, DOT and federal highway representatives, engineers, architects, and academics.

On average, PCI’s Convention is attended by over 1300 representatives from precast •

concrete producers, consulting companies, engineers, DOTs and regulators, aca-

Exhibitor Schedule Rules and Regulationsapplication for exhibit space

An application for exhibit space is included in this prospectus. Exhibitors

should indicate the top six preferences of booth location as shown on the

floor plan. Multiple adjacent spaces will be allocated wherever it is prac-

ticable to do so. Applications must be accompanied by a nonrefundable

deposit of 50% of the total rental fee of the applied-for space. The remain-

ing 50% of the rental fee is due no later than March 1, 2010.

Confirmation of requested booth locations will be sent by email following

receipt of application and deposit by January 31, 2010.

Applicants' space preference in accordance with receipt of applications and

point system will be adhered to as closely as possible. The Exhibition Hall

will be divided into booths as shown on the floor plan, but PCI reserves the

right to make such changes and/or additions it may consider necessary.

insTallaTiOn Of exhibiTs, dismanTling, and remOval Exhibitors may begin erection of their displays at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, May 27, 2010, at which time all shipments of consigned display material

will be spotted in the designated booths. In case an exhibit is not in the process of being installed by 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 29, 2010, PCI will

instruct the decorating contractor to uncrate and install the display material (without the Exhibitor being present) at the Exhibitor’s expense.

If the display is delivered late, the Exhibitor will be required to wait for installation until after the exhibit closing hours on the day of delivery.

The Exhibition Hall will be officially opened to Convention attendees promptly at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 29, and will close at 2:30 p.m. on

Tuesday, June 1. All exhibit material must be removed no later than 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 2. Exhibits not removed at this time will be

transferred to storage at the expense of the Exhibitor. The official drayage company should be notified in advance if the Exhibitor is planning

to exhibit anything of unusual size or weight.

subleTTing Of sPaceNo Exhibitor shall assign, sublet, or apportion the whole or any part of the exhibit space allotted to them, or exhibit therein or permit any other

party to exhibit therein any other goods or services than those produced, manufactured, or handled by the contracting Exhibitor in the regular

course of their business, nor permit any representative of any firm or company not having a booth to solicit business or take orders within the

confines of their booth. Nonexhibiting firms are discouraged from soliciting or taking orders within the confines of the Exhibition Hall.

unauThOriZed exhibiTs Or disPlaysNo exhibits or displays will be allowed without proper authorization of PCI. Exhibits in individual rooms or suites by anyone attending the Third

International fib Congress and Exhibition or staying at the Gaylord National are specifically prohibited. Please note Item 4 in the “Statement of

Policy with Respect to Organized Entertainment” (below).

characTer Of exhibiTsPCI reserves the right to decline or prohibit any exhibit, or any part of an exhibit, that in its opinion is not suitable to and in keeping with the

character of the Convention. Noise-producing exhibits that may be distracting or annoying to other Exhibitors are strictly prohibited. Exhibitors

shall not distribute literature, samples, souvenirs, notices, or invitations except from within their assigned booth(s). See also “Statement of Policy

with Respect to Organized Entertainment” (below).

heighT resTricTiOn On sides Of bOOThDisplay panels or other material higher than 42 in. (1 m) placed along the sides of a booth must not extend more than 4 ft (1.2 m) from the

back of the booth. If product to be displayed is higher than 10 ft (3 m), please seek prior approval from PCI. The Exhibition Hall ceiling height

is 24 ft.

siZe and weighT limiTaTiOnsThe Exhibit Hall load rating is 250 lb/ft2 (1220 kg/m2). If your display material is of extreme weight or size, please consult with the decorating

contractor.

PrOJecTiOn Of mOvies, slides, Or videOAny showing of visuals must be handled in a manner that will not block aisles or interfere with neighboring Exhibitors.

PhOTOgraPhyPhotography, unless authorized by PCI, is prohibited in the exhibit hall.

cOPyrighTed music licenseExhibitors are required to obtain their own licenses if they intend to play copyrighted music at their booths.

resPOnsibiliTy fOr exhibiTsWhile PCI and the Gaylord National Convention Center will exercise all reasonable precautions to see that all articles and exhibit materials are

carefully handled, PCI and the Gaylord National Convention Center shall not be liable for damages or loss of any exhibit by fire, theft, or oth-

erwise. The contract for space is accepted with the understanding that Exhibitors are solely responsible for their exhibits.

liabiliTy and insuranceExhibitors will operate their booths so that no injury will result to any person or property. No moving mechanisms or moving devices will be

permitted unless adequate protection is provided. All draperies and decorative materials must be fireproof. Inflammable fluids, substances, or

materials of any nature may not be used in any exhibit or stored in or behind any exhibit. All materials and installations must comply with the local

fire department requirements. The Exhibitor agrees to indemnify and save harmless the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute, Gaylord National

Convention Center, Freeman, and the management and officials thereof, from all claims of damage, suits, etc., by any and all persons that may

result on account of negligence of the exhibitor and/or his agents or employees. Exhibitors are liable for any damage caused by fastening display

fixtures to floors, walls, or columns, and for any damage to equipment furnished by PCI or its service contractors. Each Exhibitor should carry its

own all-risk insurance on its property and should be covered by extended public liability insurance.

fOrce maJeureAll reasonable precautions against damage or loss by fire, water, storm, theft, strikes, and other emergencies will be taken, but PCI does not

guarantee or insure the Exhibitor against any loss by reason thereof. In case the premises to be used for the exhibit shall be destroyed by fire or

the elements, or in case of war, or by any other cause, or in case any other circumstances shall make it impossible for PCI to permit said premises

to be occupied by said Exhibitor for the uses herein specified, then and thereupon this agreement shall terminate and said Exhibitor shall and

does hereby waive claim for damage and compensation.

PCI reserves the right to retain such part of payment made by Exhibitor for booth space as would be necessary to cover all expenses incurred by PCI

incidental to the opening of the Exhibition up to the time of any cancellation made necessary by the above-mentioned emergencies.

sTaTemenT Of POlicy wiTh resPecT TO OrganiZed enTerTainmenTPurpose: To preserve the professional character and integrity of the Third International fib Congress and Exhibition and to spare those offering

material, equipment, or services to the industry the expense of competitive entertainment beyond a reasonable degree.

1. These rules apply to manufacturers, distributors, and all firms offering services of any type to the industry.

2. No organized entertainment of any kind is permitted in any hotel, public or private facility, or any other place during the official period of the

Congress.

This rule is not intended to deny the right to take parties out to dinner or entertainment during hours when no official Congress meetings

or functions are scheduled. Notice of such small parties shall not be listed on hotel bulletin boards or publicly announced in any other way.

This rule is also not intended to prohibit sponsorship of hospitality rooms if the pertinent rules stated here are observed:

A) Proper decorum must be maintained in hospitality rooms to prevent offense to anyone.

B) Hospitality rooms should be closed when official Congress meetings or functions are in progress except for specific business appointments.

C) Display of products is not permitted in any hotel room. Such displays are to be restricted to the Exhibition Hall.

D) Signs or markers should not be displayed in the lobbies, corridors, or hallways, or outside of the hospitality room.

3. no organized and/or scheduled field trips are permitted during the official period of the congress without prior approval of Pci.

4. PCI strongly disapproves of sponsorship of hospitality rooms by firms that are not exhibiting at the Congress.

5. The responsibility and authority for enforcement of these entertainment rules are vested in the administration and staff of PCI and your

cooperation in adhering to these rules is requested.

Washington DC monuments and exciting views of downtown. Attendees will enjoy a fun evening where they can mingle,

dine and dance to a medley of live music. The cruise will depart from the National Harbor dock just steps from the Gaylord

Post-Congress tours will visit local concrete-related projects and structures on Thursday, June 3. All technical tours require
