    Thackeray's began with the arrival ofKeshav SitaramThackeray (also known as Prabodhankar Thackeray because of

    his articles in his fortnightly magazine named Prabodhan) to

    Bombay

    He was a social activist and a prolific writer and had progressive

    ideas about the empowerment of women and his strident

    opposition to the caste system.

    Referred to as the first family ofMaharashtra politics, the

    Thackeray's played a vital role in the Samyukta Maharashtra

    movement. Leading from the front was Keshav,aka Prabodhankar Thackeray, one of the five prominent

    leaders of the movement.

    His sole aim was social reforms. Also wrote many plays,

    biographies and booklets to create awareness about the variouscauses for which he fought.

    Also played an important role in uniting the leaders of all the

    parties in the statehis diplomacy and leadership skills were

    significant in bringing together diverse parties. They came underthe banner of the Samyukta Maharashtra Samiti, launched in

    1955 to pursue the demand for the formation of Maharashtra,

    with Mumbai and Belgaum as parts of it. Prabodhankar led the

    movement, and was even imprisoned.

    His sons Bal and Shrikant participated by contributing

    articles and cartoons to local publications

    Balasaheb Keshav Thackeray born on 23rd Jan. 1926. He former the Shiv Sena on 19 June, 1996 with the intent

    of fighting for the rights of the natives of the state ofMaharashtra.

    Bal Thackeray started his career as a cartoonist in the freepress journal in Bombay.

    In 1960, he launched a cartoon weekly marmikwith hisbrother.

    On July 28,1999 Bal Thackeray was banned from voting

    and contesting in any election for six years fromDecember 11, 1999 till December 10,2005 on therecommendations of the Election Commission.

    Thackeray has attracted controversy for his praiseof Adolf Hitler

    He was born on 10th June 1968 and his official name isSwar-Raj Thackeray.

    He is son ofMr. Shrikant Thackeray and Mrs. Kunda. He was schooled at Bal Mohan Vidya Mandir in Central

    Mumbai and graduated from Sri J.J. College of Art. He is the founder and president of right wing Marathi

    ethnocentric regional political party, the MaharastraNavnirman Sena (Maharastra).

    Raj is a painter and cartoonist and operates an

    infrastructure development company named MatoshreeBuildersin Mumbai.

    Uddhav Thackeray was born on 27th of July

    1960,youngest son of Bal Thackeray

    He is the executive president of shiv sena

    He formed the shiv sena on 19 June 1966 with the intent offighting for the rights of the natives of the state of Maharashtra

    In February 2008 Raj Thackeray led a violent movement in

    what was labeled an andolan (uprising/ protest) against thesupposed dominance of migrants from the North

    Indian states ofUttar Pradesh and Bihar in Maharashtra and

    more so in its commercial capital ofMumbai.

    opposed sale of mill land, but Raj Thackerays Shiv Senabid for and won mill land in prime Mumbai real estate.

    The NCP leader from Mumbai, Sachin Ahir, objected to the

    sale of the Kohinoor Mill land, saying that there were forty

    bids, yet only three were short-listed. He demanded a re-bid

    as there was a lack of transparency in the move.
