Spring is Coming! Spring is Coming! Even though the weather continues to yo-yo between the 50’s-and even 60’s temps and stuff much colder and more bone chilling, spring has definitely sprung in the music department. There is a ton of stuff going on— some winding down– some ramping up– and some at midstream. Here’s a recap of the recent past and a glimpse into our future… First– a HUGE WELL DONE to those involved in “The Sound of Music” pro- duction!! From the stage to the pit to the back house, it was one of the best musicals ever presented at NHS. Abso- lutely incredible given all the challenges the weather brought. Also, congrats to those involved with the 2nd Annual Rockin’ the Strings concert! This has fast become an NHS tradition and is such a wonderful opportunity for so many students. Also congrats to Faith Brown for making it all the way to the PMEA State Choir– placing first in the soprano section. What an achieve- ment! Further congrats and well wishes to Kiara Sweitzer as she heads to Regional Band this weekend and at- tempts to qualify for State Band. While our Symphonic Band and Jazz Ensembles are working hard on prepa- rations for several May performances, things are starting to warm up for the 2014 Bobcat Marching Band. A show has been selected and sampled out to many students and staff and there is a lot of excitement about it. This year we will be performing a show that features music from some well known compos- ers of movie music. The show, entitled “Adventures in Cinema” features the Overture to Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, the beautiful and timeless “Cadillac of the Skies” from John Wil- liams, the theme to the James Bond Volume 1, Issue 7 March 2014 THE TEMPO Northeastern High School Band Newsletter In This Issue PG 2 – Pie and Flowers Fund Raiser Info. This show is high energy and will surely be a lot of fun to put together. Signup sheets for instru- mentalists are up and we are ready to go on another great season with the march- ing band. Look for the season schedule to be out in the very near future as well. We are also hoping to soon begin work- ing with some interested woodwind stu- dents on a spring ensemble or two. We have fallen a little behind schedule with this as the lost school days have had a cascade effect on other things, but we are hopeful that we’ll get going soon. And of course our *new* spring trip is on course for May 17th. Just a reminder that all payments are due by March 21st. Students are $100 and parents are $105. PLEASE remit your payment on time so we can avoid any hassles with our travel company. Student accounts may be used for student stipends only. Don’t’ forget to mark your calendars and tell family and friends about the March- ing Band’s appearance at the York Revolution on Saturday, May 24th. It will be a great way to kick start the summer season for the band with a return to the stadium for a late school year appearance. As in the past, we will sell tickets to the event that will benefit the band’s activity fund. Finally, in case you missed it, com- mencement is now scheduled for Saturday, June 14th at 3:00pm. This is a required appearance for all students in the symphonic band and we will be inviting band alumni to join us again soon. As you can see there’s a lot happen- ing in the music wing. Please con- sider joining us for a music boosters meeting. There’s only three left this year! The next one is this Thurs- day, March 13th at 6:30 in the Choir Room. The remaining dates are listed on page 4.
