We are registered with QQI to offerprogrammes leading to QQI awards inthe National Framework ofQualifications. The College has agreedits quality assurance procedures withQQI and is involved with thedevelopment of some of the newCommon Awards at Level 4, 5, and 6 nationally.

OUR TUTORSA feature of the College is that eachcourse has at least one specialist tutorwith wide experience of workingoutside the College in the particularvocational area. This ensures thatcourses are up-to-date and relevant toindustry standards.

ST. SHEELAN’S CHILDCARE CENTREThe St. Sheelan’s Childcare Centreopened in September 2007 in thegrounds of the College. This centre,caters for up to 70 children up to 10years of age, providing high qualitycrèche, pre-school and after-schoolservices. Students of the College haveaccess to childcare at a reasonablecost. Welcome to Templemore College

A COLLEGE FOR ADULTSTemplemore College is located inTemplemore in the heart of Tipperary.

For more than a decade TemplemoreCollege of Further Education has beena major player in the provision ofexcellent further education services toTipperary and surrounding counties.

We specialise mainly at Levels 5 and 6of the National Framework ofQualifications and offer a wide range ofquality-assured programmes in variousdisciplines.

The College has grown significantlyover the last number of years; however,what remains a constant is thesupportive and friendly atmosphere inthe College. Students constantly talk ofthe care of teachers and theencouraging learning environmentwhich accommodates all students.

Templemore College supports itsteaching and learning with facilitiesand equipment that reflect industrystandards. However, it is the dedicationand professionalism of our staff thatmarks us apart.

Our objective is to provide all ourstudents with a learning experiencewhich is interesting, challenging and,most of all, enjoyable. Our greatestsatisfaction comes from seeing ourstudents achieve what they wish forthemselves.

GARDA VETTINGGarda Vetting is now a requirement for all students who wish to attendTemplemore College. Offers of a place are provisional pending the outcomefrom the Garda vetting process.

On-line application system. All students are now encouraged to applyon-line when possible. Closing date for thereceipt of applications for the first round ofinterviews for all courses is Wednesday22nd April 2015. Applicants who apply bythis date will be called for interview duringMay. Offer of places will be subject tocompletion of interview and theachievement of the minimum entryrequirements, and the completion of the Garda vetting process.

Applicants will be notified of their interviewresults in June.

Late applications received after Wednesday22nd April 2015 will be processed, subjectto the availability of places, in late August2015.

As places on all courses are limited, earlyapplication is strongly advised.

A non refundable administration fee of €10applies to all applications.

Courses commence in late August.

Only one application form shouldbe submitted. Where more than

one application is made, onlythe most recent will beprocessed. Please note thatthe use of medical cards inrelation to fees must be fullmedical cards and not doctoronly.

OPEN DAY & EVENINGTemplemore College Open Dayand Evening will take place on

Wednesday 25th March 2015from 11 a.m. to 15.30 p.m. and

from 18.30 p.m. to 21.30 p.m.

OUR COURSESTemplemore College of FurtherEducation provides the broadestrange of Further Education coursesin Tipperary. All our courses offercertification either by QQI or byinternationally recognisedbodies. Most courses offer

opportunities for additional professionalaccreditation.

Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI)Quality and Qualifications Ireland, is thenational body responsible for setting andmaintaining standards in vocationaleducation and training in Ireland. Our PLCcourses offer QQI certification at Levels 5and 6 as defined in the National Frameworkof Qualifications and recognised byemployers and third level institutions.

CERTIFICATIONAll our courses offer certification either byQQI or by internationally recognised bodiessuch as:

The student Council at Templemore Collegeprovides a forum for students.

It acts mainly as the student voice inTemplemore College. In the last week ofSeptember one class representative and adeputy is elected from each course in theCollege.

The class representatives form the StudentCouncil for the academic year.

Meetings are usually held once a month toenhance communications within thecommunity and to organise activities of

benefit to students and recognisedcharities. Last year the Student Council hada busy year planning a variety of eventswith a view to creating a sense ofcommunity spirit within the College.

Two members of the Student Councilrepresent the student's voice on the Board of Management.

The Student Council - Templemore College

This course means so much to me. After being athome for seven years, I was really apprehensiveabout heading back to education. I feel thatbeing in Templemore College has really boostedmy confidence and made me realize that nowreally is the time to get back my own identity. Ihave no regrets about staying home to raise mychildren but I have to admit that I am reallyenjoying my “me time”. I feel; that TemplemoreCollege has been the perfect beginning point forme. It really is the place where futures begin.

A key motivation for the College is toprovide a range of flexible programmeswhich will make it possible for all toparticipate. These programmes include:

• Full-time Post-Leaving Certificate courses

• Part-time courses of varying duration and intensity

• Second-chance education. We have courses available at the following times:

• Full-time during the day • Morning times only • A number of afternoons per week • Evening times.

QUALITY ASSURANCETemplemore College implements strictQuality Assurance policies and proceduresin all its courses. This Quality Assuranceprogramme fully meets the requirements ofComp TIA and Cisco. The College is aregistered provider with each of theseorganisations.

ADMISSIONS PROCEDUREAll enrolments are subject to theAdmissions policy of Templemore College.Places are offered upon successfulcompletion of interviews, and subject to allthe entry requirements of a particularcourse being satisfied. The first round ofinterviews is normally held in late May forthe following September. All who haveapplied by that stage are invited forinterview. In cases where a course is not fullafter the first round of interviews, furtherinterviews may be arranged during thesummer.

SPECIFIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTSThere may be specific entry requirementsfor some PLC (Post Leaving Certificate)courses and these are clearly outlined inthis booklet. Leaving Certificate Applied(LCA) is an entry requirement for themajority of courses except where otherwisestated. Garda vetting is also a requirementfor all courses.

NO TUITION FEESThere are no tuition fees for Irish and EUnationals. However, costs such asregistration fees, examination fees andstudent services charges may apply.

Students will be advised at interview aboutcosts associated with their specific course.Students will be notified of requirements inrelation to textbooks, equipment oruniforms when they have been offered aplace. Non-EU nationals are charged fees as set down by the Department ofEducation and Skills - details are availablefrom the College.

At this point in time, there are 40 highereducation institutions includingUniversities, Institute of Technology andprivate 3rd Level Colleges offering places to QQI CAO applicants.

In addition to the Higher Education LinksScheme (HELS), which links specific QQILevel 5 Certificates and some Level 6Advanced Certificates to a number ofreserved places on higher educationprogrammes, the Institutes of Technologyand some higher education institutionsoperate admissions criteria and scoringsystem for non-specific QQI Levels 5 and 6Certificate applicants.

Note: Applicants are advised at all times toconfirm linked Awards, any additionalmodule requirements, applicationprocesses and scoring systems with theAdmissions Offices of the participatinghigher education institutions, or visitwww.cao.ie.

WORk ExPERIENCEWork experience is an important element ofall our PLC courses. The College has a widerange of contacts and can assistparticipants in obtaining relevant workexperience placement.

ERASMUS +For a number of years some of our studentshave taken up work experience in Franceand Spain. This opportunity is available tostudents who are interviewed and deemedsuitable for this option. See page 45 formore details.

CONTACTS WITH EMPLOYERSTemplemore College offers both studentsand employers a free placement service.Employers frequently contact the Collegewhen they have staff vacancies. In addition,the work experience programme has led toemployment opportunities for manystudents.

INTERVIEW PREPARATIONAll students participate in a jobs search andinterview techniques programme so thatthey can present themselves in the mostprofessional manner at the all-importantinterview.

GUIDANCE & SUPPORTAll students have access to the adultguidance and counselling service in the College.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE TESTApplicants who do not have English as theirfirst language may be asked to take a testto assess whether they will benefit fromparticipation on a particular course. ThisEnglish Language Test will be in addition tothe minimum entry requirements asoutlined for each course.

GRANTSStudent Grant

The student grant is the main source offinancial help available from the Irish Statefor students in full-time Post LeavingCertificate Courses (PLCs). For eligiblestudents, the grant is there to help with the various costs of participating in further education.

Family and/or personal income is a keyfactor that will be assessed when you applyfor a student grant but there are also someother conditions. Studentfinance.ie can helpyou assess whether you are eligible andguide you in starting the process. In allcases, the official decision is made by thegrant-awarding body.

If you think you are eligible you shouldapply as soon as possible. You do not haveto wait until you receive an offer of a placeor enrol in college.

BACk TO EDUCATION ALLOWANCE-BTEAAllowance-BTEAIf you are unemployed, parenting alone orhave a disability and are getting certainpayments from the Department of SocialProtection, you may be eligible for the Backto Education Allowance (BTEA).From 1st June 2014 all new BTEA claimsmust be recommended and approved by aDSP Case Officer before you start thecourse.

You can qualify for the BTEA in differentways depending on your age, 21 years andover in particular circumstances.1. You must have been accepted onto

a qualifying courseIn addition2. You must be

a) in receipt of a qualifying socialwelfare payment for a specifiedlength of time

Orb) dependent on a person who

can claim BTEAOrYou may qualify to participate in the BTEAscheme on a non-payment basis if you are:

HOW TO APPLYYou must get written confirmation that youare registered as a full-time day studentfrom the college registrar.

PROGRESSION TO HIGHER EDUCATIONQQI has introduced a new awards systemknown as the Common Awards System, orCAS. All QQI awards has been part of CASfrom 2014. CAS awards will replace existinglinked QQI awards. Details available fromthe College Guidance Office.

Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme (VTOS)

NATIONAL FRAMEWORk OF QUALIFICATIONSAll QQI Awards have been place on the National Framework of Qualifications.

It is easy to see at a glance where the Award you wish to pursue stands on the 10- Level Framework.

QQI is devising a new “Awards Plan” which will lead to the migration of existing awardstandards and also, the development of new Award areas to the Common AwardsSystem (CAS).

FOR WHOM?This course is designed for school leaverswho wish to make a career in secretarialwork, and mature students who may haveleft the workplace and now wish to returnto work.

It gives participants a thorough mastery ofoffice technology and administration.

DURATIONThis is a 1 year course and finishes atapprox 2 pm. each day. Entry requirementsinclude Leaving Certificate or equivalent.However, the experience of many adultswill enable them to succeed in this course.

THE YOUTHREACH PROGRESSION PROGRAMME FORNORTH TIPPERARYAIMCéim Eile is a Department of Education andScience initiative, supported by ESF funding,to provide second chance education forearly school leavers in the 16 - 20 agegroup. The programme aims to enablestudents to acquire the personal andinterpersonal skills and confidence whichwill enable them to enter and succeed inthe workplace or further education to follow.

FOR WHOM?Céim Eile is for 16 to 20 year olds who haveleft school without completing the LeavingCertificate. The programme currently catersfor the Nenagh, Roscrea, Thurles, Urlingford,Borrisoleigh and Templemore areas.
