“Bhubaneswar” is the capital of Orissa. The city has a history over 3000 years ago. It is also known as “The City of Temple” because of the many Hindu temples of Lord Shiva.

“Bhubaneswar” is the capital of Orissa. The city has a history over 3000 years ago. It is also known as “The City of Temple” because of the many Hindu temples of Lord Shiva.

The city has so many caves entitled as “Udayagiri and Khandagiri Caves”. Udayagiri cave is also known as ”Kumari parvat”. These caves are partly artificial and partly natural with archaeological, historical, and religious importance to the city. These caves are situated on the two flanking hills namely Udayagiri and Khandagiri.

These caves are written inscription from ancient times of history. These caves have several storeys like a building. The Udayagiri 18 caves whereas Khandagiri has 15 caves. The inscriptions are written in Brahmi. The sculptures are something which connects to the history.

“Dhauli” is situated on the banks of”Daya river”. It is 8 kilometers south of Bhubaneswar. This hill has vast open space and has a proclamation of Asoka carved on a throng of rock. Dhauli has the area where “Kalinga War” was fought. Dhauli is the place where everything tells about Asoka, while a visit to Dhauli it feels like Asoka’s monuments stupas, pillars are telling you about the history.

“Lingaraj Temple” temple is devoted to “Harihara” or “Lord Shiva”. This is one of the oldest and largest temples. It is believed that this temple is built by the king of Somavamsi dynasty.

“Rajarani Temple” is 11th centaury temple, this temple does not have any image inside the sanctum so it’s not clearly stated that, this dedicated to whom? This is built by dull red and yellow sandstones which are locally known as “Rajarani”. This temple, locally called as ‘love temple’ because of the carving sculptures of man and woman.
