First Phone
•Alexander Graham Bell invented the first telephone in in 1876.
Telephone Company •Bell started the
American Telephone and Telegraph CO. It was called the Bell system.
•Later the Bell American Telephone and Telegraph became what we now know as AT&T.
Phones Improve Communication
• By the 1920’s 35% of the households in America had phones.
• The telephone speeded up communication.
• People could call a person within minutes, rather than waiting days for a letter to arrive.
Smart Phones•Bell’s phones were different than the ones we use today.
•We still talk with people on the phone but smart phones have changed the way people communicate.
Conversations•Now conversations on smart phones have video chats, so you can connect to your family/friends from your phone and see what is happening •A new way people communicate on phones is by texting.
Apps.• Smart phones have
applications you can download like: Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, games, and songs.
• GPS is an important App, which allows a person to put an address in a phone and get directions to find a place
Kids and Teenagers
• The biggest users of smart phones are kids and teenagers
• Teens use smart phones to text, or go on Facebook, Twitter, or chat websites
• Little kids use smart phones to play games
Distractions•People driving get distracted when they are using their smart phones and they don’t pay attention to the road.
•Students use their smart phones in class and they get distracted too and don’t pay attention.
• Phones have helped people improve communication since the first telephone was invented by Alexander Graham Bell.
• Today’s smart phones do so many useful and fun things, but each new invention brings new problems, too.
