The Brief Strategic Therapy (BST) approach described by Nardone and Portelli works on the redundant modaliGes of people perceiving and reacGng in regards to their personal and interpersonal reality. Though the use of reframing maneuvers leads people to feel and discover what they had been aaempGng to do so far to protect themselves from binging (absGnence), represenGng the maintaining mechanism of the symptomatology. Cogni6ve Behavioral Therapy is based on the Cooper and Fairburn approach, aimed at addressing d y s f u n c G o n a l e m o G o n s , ma ladapGve behav io r s and cogniGve processes, through a number of "acGon oriented" systemaGc procedures.

80 parGcipants have been randomly allocated in 2 groups / 80 paGents réparGs aléatoirement en 2 groupes:

CBT group, receiving in-‐hospital treatment plus outpaGent

telephone-‐based CBT-‐oriented treatment. Groupe TCC BST group: in-‐hospital treatment plus outpaGent

telephone-‐based BST-‐oriented psychological support.

INCLUSION Criteria EXCLUSION Criteria

1)  being 18-‐65 years of age 2)  having BMI ≥ 30 (WHO) 3)  having a DSM-‐IV diagnosis for BED.

1)  having other psychiatric disorders aXer SCID (Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-‐IV-‐TR Disorders)

2)  presenGng medical complicaGons not obesity-‐related.

The observed superiority of BST (vs CBT) in producing weight loss and weekly binge episodes’ remissions from 6 months aXer discharge up to 18 months could depend on BST focus on typically BED related aaempted soluGons, in how the problem works rather than in why it exists. La supériorité observée de la BST (vs TCC) dans la perte de poids et les rémissions des épisodes de binge hebdomadaires à parGr de 6 mois après la sorGe jusqu'à 18 mois pourrait correspondre au fait que BST met l’accent sur les tentaGves de soluGons généralement tentées et sur comment foncGonne le problème plutôt que pourquoi il existe.

Implica6ons for clinical prac6ce The significant improvement at both the OQ 45.2 Symptom Distress (SD) and Social Role (SR) score from 12 to 18 months follow up, as well as for the OQ 45.2 Global Index from 6 up to 18 months observed for the BST group, is probably due to its focus on symptoms reducGon in a short Gme working on individuals’ percepGons and emoGons, rather than emphasizing the primacy of cogniGon in mediaGng psychological disorder. L'amélioraGon est significaGve à la fois si on prend en compte le symptôme de réducGon du stress OQ 45,2 ( SD ) et le rôle social ( SR ) dont on mesure le score de 12 à 18 mois de suivi , ainsi que pour l' OQ 45,2 Indice mondial de 6 jusqu'à 18 mois observés pour le groupe de la BST, est probablement lié à l'accent qui est mis sur la réducGon des symptômes dans un court laps de temps à travailler sur les percepGons et les émoGons des individus , plutôt que meaant l'accent sur la primauté de la cogniGon dans la médiaGon de trouble psychologique .



Conclusion Since the current trial represents a single center randomized controlled study, generalizaGon of research findings are limited. Further trials should extend to both the use of alternaGve models of psychological support and the implementaGon of new technologies, in order to find the best treatment combinaGon (psychotherapeuGc model, level of technology, number of sessions, etc.) for Binge EaGng Disorder. L’essai clinique actuel représente une étude contrôlée unique randomisée, la généralisaGon des résultats de recherche sont limités . D'autres essais devraient étendre à la fois l'uGlisaGon de modèles alternaGfs de souGen psychologique et la mise en œuvre des nouvelles technologies , afin de trouver la meilleure combinaison de traitement (modèle psychothérapeuGque , le niveau de la technologie , le nombre de sessions, etc. ) pour Binge EaGng Disorder .
