Caroline Flint MP and Cllr Sandra Holland were guests of Kingswood Dearne Valley Centre in Conisbrough this week, to see the latest developments on the site.
Caroline Flint MP said: “Kingswood have transformed this redundant site into an exciting, residential learning centre for local schools and youth groups. They have shown great vision, building on the unique qualities of this site, to create a very special learning environment. I would doubt there is another centre in the UK that harnesses wind, solar and their own water treatment work, within a really fun setting.”
Said Sandra Holland: “The facilities and accommodation are fantastic. I’m particularly pleased that Doncaster schools obtain a discount to use these facilities, and I’m excited that there are important job opportunities for local people. ”
John Bentley, Chief Executive said: “I am delighted that Caroline Flint and Sandra Holland were able to spend so much time at our Kingswood’s Dearne Valley Centre, to see what we do, and to experience interactive learning first hand. The residential experiences offered by Kingswood give youngsters the chance to learn and develop as individuals in ways that are not possible in a traditional classroom setting. Our residentials create life long memories and can be life changing for the young people involved.
Kingswood is investing £8million to redevelop the 50-acre site into a state-of-the-art residential centre where youngsters can explore the environment and develop life skills in an interactive way.
The site is equipped with an outdoor activity park where youngsters can try rope courses, climbing walls, zipwires, archery and problem solving skills. Indoors, there’s a giant sports hall, where youngsters explore similar activities in all weathers. Kingswood has purpose-built accommodation for students and teachers on site, with further sensitive expansion underway. The site can accommodate 380 pupils and staff at present, increasing to 460 this summer.
Speaking to Kingswood staff at the centre, Ms Flint, who is also Shadow Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, also got the chance to explore the centre’s innovative approach to sustainability. The centre benefits from a giant solar panel, wind powered facilities, a natural water treatment plant and ‘touch tanks’ – interactive structures which give children the chance to physically explore bio-diverse habitats.
Kingswood Inspiring Learning now employs 70 people at their Dearne Valley centre, welcoming 13,000 young people in the past year.

School News from Copley Junior School
Our new House Captains At Copley Junior we value all our children’s achievements. To support this further we have introduced a new House system. We hope the new House system will help to develop our pupils’ sense of belonging, community spirit and pride in their contribution to school life.
Every child has been allocated to a House Group (Red, Yellow, Green, Blue). Each week pupils are rewarded with House Points that recognise academic, sporting, social and personal achievements.
We total the number of House points from each class at the end of the week and we celebrate the winning House of the week in our Achievement Assembly on Fridays.
Our Year 6 pupils were invited to apply for the role of House Captain. Children wrote wonderful letters of application and then were interviewed by the Head teacher and members of the School Council. Well done to Tyler, Grace, Adam and Eddie, who are the first House Captains of Copley Junior School. The quality of applications was so high we were able to appoint Vice Captains and House Ambassadors for each House. Our Year 6 pupils show so much initiative and these positions give the children opportunity to develop their leadership and team work skills.
Art Success Well done to our Art Club, who created entries on the theme of ‘All the Fun of the Fair’ for the Don Valley Arts Festival.
We were awarded a trophy for the high quality of entries that we submitted. Well done to Thomas R in Year 6 who won 2nd place in the category 8-11 years and to Emily N who achieved 3rd place in the category 8-11 years. Many thanks to Miss Passant who ran our after school Art club.

New Curriculum at Copley We have recently made some exciting changes to our school curriculum. We have introduced the ‘Cornerstones’ curriculum in order to:
Provide children with vibrant, relevant and engaging learning projects Provide children with more first hand experiences Develop maths skills across the curriculum Provide more opportunities for writing across the curriculum Give challenge to our more able pupils Give opportunities for pupil led learning, where children can approach a learning
challenge in their own way Provide new opportunities to share learning at the end of a project with parents Ensure we are meeting all the requirements of the new National Curriculum Ensure systematic progression of skills and knowledge as children move through the
school
Year 5 Visited the tropical Butterfly House in Sheffield to launch their new learning project ‘Beast Creator.’ Year 5 used their knowledge of minibeasts and habitats to create their own ‘minibeast hotels’, to tempt the minibeasts of Copley’s garden area to take up residence! We look forward to sharing more school news with you soon. Best wishes E.A. Crayton Head teacher

UNIQUE STORAGE SOLUTIONS
FROM ULTIMATE BATHROOMS
11
I t is everybody’s aim to de-clutter these days and nowhere is this more important than in the bathroom. Bottles, tubes, packets and jars of things all have to go somewhere. Often there is no option but to leave them on worktops, window sills, shelves, shower trays or even on the floor. This not only makes the whole room look untidy but is also potentially dangerous.
Ultimate Bathrooms always design rooms with storage in mind. Whether you prefer drawers or cupboards, we believe an attractive functional room is an investment in comfort that increases the value of your home. With fitted and modular options available from top quality British and European manufacturers such as Utopia, Mereway, Ellis, Bauhaus, Dansani and Ambiance Bain you can choose from a huge range of tailor-made furniture to suit all rooms, from the smallest cloakroom to the largest bathroom, and all budgets.
We have now taken this concept to the next level. Ultimate Bathrooms are delighted to announce the launch of two stunning new ranges of bathroom furniture from Cerasa and Pelipal. Pelipal has been making top quality furniture in Germany for over 100 years. With a manufacturing capability of 6500 pieces per week they have one of the most modern fully automated production facilities in Europe. Innovative use of LED lighting between the basin and the drawer unit is a particular feature of their style as can be seen to full effect in the front window of our Chesterfield showroom.
Cerasa is a small family run business in Northern Italy with emphasis on design, quality, performance, durability and style. Everything they produce must be attractive but must also last. We haven’t seen a better made range of furniture with such attention to detail. Between the two manufacturers, we are able to offer you the widest choice of colours, sizes and styles available on the market today. In addition to the products in their standard ranges, both suppliers provide a bespoke service which means customers can order cupboards and drawer units in unique sizes and have them finished in any colour. The possibilities are endless.
Both ranges are displayed at all three of our showrooms and our sales staff would be very pleased to show you exactly what can be done to make your room stunning to look at and practical to use.

Richmond Hill School News The Terrible Tudors! Year 5 have been finding out all about The Tudors - from Henry VIII and his six wives to Tudor life, food and clothes. They used all they had learned to give a memo-rable performance for the school and their parents and also enjoyed a brilliant day at Haddon Hall. All this proves how we can learn in lots of different places and in lots of different ways. Well done Year 5 - just don't lose your heads! Toffee Music All of Richmond Hill was enter-tained superbly by a singing duo called Toffee Music when they came into school on 3rd April. As well as performing songs old and new for the children to sing along with, they were also raising money for Weston Park Hospital. X-Factor Richmond Hill's X-Factor competi-tion was, yet again a roaring suc-cess, proving that we certainly do have a lot of talented pupils in our
school - singers, dancers, poets, acrobats, magicians to name but a few. All were welcome to audition and, if lucky, go through to the voting assembly where all the children voted for their favourite act using the Richmond Hill 'clapometer'! The finalists then performed in a special assembly for their parents. Well done to everyone who took par. Eat your heart out Simon Cowell. Easter egg-stravaganza! Key Stage 2 once again proved their resourcefulness and inge-nuity when they brought their eggs into school for the Easter Egg Competition. With entries such as 'egg-cercise eggs', 'egg-sperience of a lifetime' and 'egg-ucation' it was a very hard decision to choose, but the winners were James Arragon, Isaac
Foster, Rosie Ingamells, Hollie Gater, Phoebe Moore, Olivia Arksey, Milly Clarkson, Libbi Welsh. Easter Bonnets Not to be outdone by Key Stage 2, Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 came to school with their Easter hats they had made at home. They looked resplendent as they paraded through the hall and sang songs for their parents. Lots of 'ah' factor and not a dry eye in the hall. Happy Easter everyone.

£100 for charity The pupils of Richmond Hill dug deep into their pockets to give money to a local charity. Following a visit from disabled skier, Jo Willoughby, the chil-dren raised a brilliant £100 for the Yorkshire Disa-bility Ski Fund. This was collected in person by Jo who has just returned from skiing in Austria.
TECHNO MAN visits Richmond Hill! Techno Man visited school recently and challenged our KS1 and KS2 children to draw him a new side-kick! ACS Doncaster Computer Store have launched a drawing competition with all KS1 and KS2 pupils being invited to enter with a chance to win themselves an IPad Mini as well as one for our school.
Book Review Competition We were highly delighted when a huge number of children entered our recent Book Review Compe-tition. All the winners proved that Richmond Hill is brimming with children who are passionate about reading.
