The South African Multiple Birth Association RAISING MULTIPLES seminar We had our annual Raising Multiples Seminar on the 16 th of October 2010. I am very pleased with the attendance of 120 people this year. Unfortunately we had air-conditioning problems that day as well as some technical problems with the slide shows, but everybody who attended went home with a lot of extra knowledge and information. Our first speaker was Ilana Pretorius, a qualified dietician, who gave us information on switching from breast milk to formula and then to solids, healthy snacks, stay-away food, when is your child ready for adult meals etc. She was bombarded with questions and due to the limited time we had, she unfortunately couldn’t answer all the questions. Our second speaker was Mimette van Niekerk from Evergreen Parenting. Mimette spoke about the wonderful, exciting temperament that God willed for each one of our children (and ourselves). She also referred to tree dialect – talking your child’s language, the importance of treating each child as an individual and practical tips on developing each child as an individual. Mimette is presenting Evergreen Parenting Courses. Anyone interested in attending a course can contact her at [email protected] . Our third speaker was Jacqui Flint from Baby Love. She spoke about age appropriate routine, age appropriate awake time, age appropriate number of day naps, signs of overstimulation and hyper alert, setting the Stage for Sleep, the Baby Love Puzzle (putting sleep training into perspective), nightmares and night terrors. Jacqui is also presenting courses and can be contacted at [email protected] . We had a fabulous raffle with very nice hampers and prizes. Next year, this Seminar will be split into two age groups. We will host a Raising Babies Seminar (0- 2years) and a Raising Toddlers Seminar (3years -primary school). If there are any specific topics you would like to hear about, please let me know. I would like to give a special thank you to the Life Carstenhof Clinic who provided the venue for the seminar. I would also like to thank my committee who assisted me on the day, who also helped me with the printing and binding of the handouts and the registrations and a special thank you to Marion Smith who organised the goodie bags and prizes.
