Overcoming the limitations of traditional driver technologies and room interactions, Wisdom Audio’s application of proprietary large-scale Planar Magnetic Drivers (PMDs) with advanced woofer designs and Regenerative Transmission Line (RTL) Subwoofers has created an optimum performance signature.

Planar Magnetic Drivers

By chemically bonding the voice coil track to a high temperature polyimide ‘thin-film’ diaphragm and then surrounding it with the extraordinary force of tiny rare-earth neodymium magnets, Wisdom has created a uniquely capable driver technology. Across a frequency range exceeding eight octaves, and in an extraordinarily slender form-factor, its proprietary Planar Magnetic Driver (PMD) design unites the super-fine detail, low distortion and low colouration of electrostatic/ribbon diaphragms with the high power handling and high dynamic qualities of traditional speaker cones, adding greater speed and clarity in the process. As a result, Wisdom’s ultra-versatile PMD offers innately more accurate, life-like sound across a wider frequency response for the most satisfying of audio experiences.

Line source and point source technology

Most speakers in the world are point sources whose sound expands away from the speaker as an ever-enlarging sphere. Line sources work differently. Because the line source driver(s) are extremely tall and narrow, the sound radiates outward in the shape of an expanding cylinder, with no energy escaping above or below a designated horizontal dispersion pattern. By eliminating the harmful effects of floor and ceiling reflections, the audience hears nearly all the energy from the front soundstage, resulting in enhanced clarity and superior intelligibility. Line source loudspeakers typically provide a 50% improvement in clarity over a comparable point source speaker.

The second key advantage of line source design is the ‘power over distance’ effect, which delivers a greater ‘shared experience’ for the audience. While an average point source loudspeaker loses 6dB per doubling of distance away, a line source loses only 3dB.

Wisdom Audio manufactures both high performance point source and line source loudspeakers using our core technology Planar Magnetic Drivers (PMDs), bringing speed, clarity and high dynamics to audio reproduction. The advanced line source driver alignment of our flagship models produces a naturally wide horizontal dispersion while minimising floor/ceiling reflections to create a generous listening sweet-spot, tailored perfectly for the seating arrangements of larger environments.
