Good afternoon everyone.

Welcome to our assembly which is part of our topic on Ice and Fire.

We are going to start with a song about snow

We will be singing the first two verses and the chorus.

Snow Song

Frosty weather casts a spell,

On an unsuspecting world.

Now the air has filled with magic,

Snow is falling down.

Page 4: The Snow Queen

Snow comes softly, drifting down,

On the houses, all around.

Over every street and rooftop,

Snow is falling down.

Page 5: The Snow Queen

(Chorus)

Not a whisper, not a sound,

As snowflakes fall, and settle down.

There’s a hush, across the town,

As snow comes falling down.

We’re going to tell you the story of The Snow Queen which we have been reading in class.

Our story starts with a demon who made a magic mirror.

The mirror made everything look twisted and ugly.

One day, the mirror got smashed and broke into a million pieces.

All the pieces of mirror flew round the world, and went into people’s eyes and hearts.

If a splinter went into you, it made you nasty and horrible.

Page 15: The Snow Queen

Long ago, there were two best friends, Gerda and Kay.

They lived next door to each other.

They loved to play in a beautiful rose garden between their houses.

Page 16: The Snow Queen

Winter came and it began to snow.

Kay went out and saw a snowflake. It grew bigger and bigger ……

…. until it turned into a woman dressed in a sparkling silver cloak.

Page 17: The Snow Queen

The woman suddenly disappeared!

Then Kay felt something sharp in his eye.

Ow!

From that moment everything changed.

Kay became a nasty horrible boy who made fun of everyone.

Page 18: The Snow Queen

Gerda was very upset.

Kay wouldn’t play with her anymore.

Page 19: The Snow Queen

Then, on the coldest day of winter, the Snow Queen came back.

She told Kay to go with her.

He followed her to her Ice Palace.

Page 20: The Snow Queen

Gerda was so worried when Kai disappeared.

She looked for him everywhere.

One day, she saw a crow.

Page 21: The Snow Queen

‘Have you seen my friend Kay?’

She asked the crow.

‘The Snow Queen took him’

‘Come to the palace’ croaked the crow.

‘I’ll show you’.

Page 22: The Snow Queen

But instead of the Snow Queen’s palace, the crow took Gerda to see the Prince and Princess.

Page 23: The Snow Queen

They were very sorry for Gerda.

They gave her a beautiful cloak to keep warm.

She would need to travel north into the snows.

Page 24: The Snow Queen

Gerda travelled north into the snows.

Suddenly she was attacked by robbers.

‘Give me that cloak’ said the robber girl.

Gerda told them about Kay.

‘Do you know where the Snow Queen is?

Page 25: The Snow Queen

The robber girl felt sorry for Gerda.

She gave her back the cloak.

She gave her a reindeer to help her.

The reindeer knew where the Snow Queen lived.

Page 26: The Snow Queen

Gerda and the reindeer travelled through the deep snow to the Ice Palace.

Page 27: The Snow Queen

There was Kay in the palace!

Gerda rushed to Kay but he was as cold as ice.

The Snow Queen cackled.

‘You can’t have him unless he solves the puzzle!

Page 28: The Snow Queen

‘He has to spell ETERNITY, then the spell is broken’

Gerda tried to help.

Page 29: The Snow Queen

Gerda and the reindeer managed to spell the word.

The spell was broken!

The Snow Queen disappeared.

Gerda and Kay went home.

The reindeer went back to the robbers.

Page 30: The Snow Queen

What happened to the Snow Queen?

The broken spell meant she could go back to her true self …

… a fairy

Page 31: The Snow Queen

And they all lived happily ever after……
