Minute with the Mayor January 2017
Town Council and employees attended the Prairie North Regional Water System meeting on
January 12th in Lashburn. Officials from SaskWater presented some alternative ideas for water
service to the communities of Marshall, Lashburn, Waseca, Maidstone and the RM of Wilton.
Council will be discussing the information presented at the meeting before the end of January and
will seek public consultation in the near future. Please watch for more details on the subject in the
coming weeks.
It is time for Council to start preliminary budget discussions. The process usually takes place in
February, March and April. The past financial expenses and revenues are reviewed by Council.
Town Council and Town Employees put forth ideas and suggestions for consideration for the
upcoming year. Discussions revolve around priorities and the direction Council wishes the
community to follow for the coming year.
Councillor Covey will be attending the Annual SUMA Convention in February. It is an
opportunity for elected officials to come together for various informational sessions, debate
resolutions, network with other municipal officials and have an opportunity to question various
members of the Provincial Government.
Community Day planning will be getting underway soon. A committee of Council will sit down
to map out a plan for the day before the end of January. Then we will have a public meeting
inviting all interested groups to help with planning. This year Community Day will incorporate
Canada 150 Theme to celebrate the countries 150th birthday. We are also working with the
Lashburn Museum who will be hosting their 100th Birthday celebration in conjunction with the
day. It promises to be the biggest and best yet. If you would like to get involved please contact the
Town Office.
The Town continues to work on grants for the continued improvement of Heritage Park. The first
phase is almost complete with the installation of the playground and swings. In the spring the
Town will be continuing to landscape the park. Phase II involves the building of a multi-purpose
surface where the existing outdoor arena is located. The conceptual idea would be an outdoor rink
in the winter with new boards, refurbishing the change room, pouring a hard surface for use in the
summer as a skate park and basketball area. It is an exciting project and we encourage individuals
interested to become part of the committee. If you have an interest in joining the committee please
send in your name to the Town Office.
I encourage you to submit questions or concerns that you would like addressed in the next Minute
with the Mayor in March. Simply drop the question off at the Town Office or email me directly at

LASHBURN LEGION #73
Just a reminder that the next Legion meeting is on February 14 at 7.30 pm held at the
Senior Drop In Centre.
We have lost another long-time member and veteran with the death of Comrade Bob
LaForce. Bob was our treasurer for a number of years and a Legion member for over 52
years. Bob was very active in our Legion until his health would no longer allow him to
participate. We send our sincere sympathy to his wife Joyce and their children. We Will Remember Them….Lest We Forget.
