While perusing a degree in Economics, I managed to start my own clothing company selling custom made cheongsams and joined the NUS Rag & Flag where we had to construct a float with recyclable materials. I also managed to find time to open a tuition centre with six of my university mates in Year one! My university life was definitely enriching in many ways - because I designed it to be. EYE ON THE BIG PICTURE

A Note From Our Director

We congratulate all of you from the Class of 2013. Regardless of outcomes, all of you have

successfully graduated from Pre-U life, and will very quickly be moving forward to your next stage of life.

The results are out. Tears shed. Regardless in disappointment or for joy, your decisions in the upcoming few

weeks will leave unimaginable impacts on the rest of your lives. Results are not the key to success. With more

than ten years of education behind you, good grades only mean you have learnt to succeed in a

controlled environment - which is totally not how real life works!

As you trudge on, borders will increasingly blur. Life will no longer be like how you remember it. You

will find yourselves thrown in situations that require quick thinking and response, and more importantly,

learning to evaluate situations and make the right decisions. Gone are the days where your time is scheduled

by the college timetable; you are now the master of your own time and the driver of your decisions. Real life is

where you set your own boundary conditions, stretch your available resources, and excel through careful

well-planned actions. University life is your last chance to enjoy your time as a student, and hopefully find

your passions. So go on, sign up for those unconventional elective modules, pack your schedule full with

multiple CCAs, or even start your own small business!

I recall my university days fondly. At the age of 19, I found myself thrown in Year one of my university education in the National University of Singapore (NUS). While perusing a degree in

Economics, I managed to start my own clothing company selling custom made cheongsams and joined the NUS Rag & Flag where we had to construct a float with recyclable materials. I also

managed to find time to open a tuition centre with six of my university mates in Year one! My university life was definitely enriching in many ways - because I designed it to be. Through the

above projects, I managed to find myself. I fell in love with Economics, with teaching, and sewing is still one of my favourite hobbies today.

Spend your time in University finding your sense of purpose. It will be the greatest driving force in the rest of your life. Should you be part of the lucky few who know where your passion

lies, the team behind Scholars’ Circle have put together a list of scholarships for your perusal.

Once again, my team and I extend our warmest congratulations to all of you. Good luck!
