Woman on the Beach at crazy canucks Beach Bar

By: Harriette Fisher Watch for Harriette

and her camera. What would your answer

be to these two questions?

Question: What here should never change? What needs to

be changed Now?

ALEJANDERO “Alli” Mejia is a bartender at Crazy Canucks

and came here from Honduras in1995. He lives in the San

Pedro area. When asked what here on the island should never changed he said “The attitude if

the people.

To the question what needs changed now he said “Traffic –

no more big trucks!”

KAREN YOUNG, an insurance broker here from Edmonton,

Alberta, Canada, here for the third time, stayed at Belizean Shores. She hopes that “the reef and the islands friendliness” never changes. She said she “would like for crime to

not be an issue.”

JOANNE FRY came here in 1995 from Regina, Saskatchewan; Canada is a psychiatric nurse living in the San Marcos Area. The friendliness, the

smiles, the pulling together, especially during times of need” was her cheer-ful response to what needs to never change. Without hesitation she said ‘CRIME!!!” to the second question.

A Day of Fun under the Sun “Finger Licking Beach Bar-B-Q; Exquisite Snorkeling, Amazing adventure!!!!

The first stop on our excur-sion was Mexico Rocks. A mere 30 minutes from town through the crystalline waters that bor-der the world’s second longest Coral Reef formation, Mexico Rocks is the home of various patch reefs formation. To date, over thirty hard coral species have been identified in that area. The average water depth is ap-proximately nine feet. We spent about 45 minutes in that area.

Trivia Tidbits *A type of lizard, the chuckwalla, escapes pursuers by crawling into a crack in a rock and inflating its body with air so that it is wedged tightly into the crack and can’t be pulled out. *The leech will gorge itself up to five times its body weight and then just fall off its victim. *The honey ant of the desert has an unusual method of providing food in times of scarcity. Certain members of the colony are stuffed with liquid food or water until the rear of their bodies are enlarged to the size of a pea. When a famine occurs, these ants disgorge their supplies to feed the others. *George Washington is the only man whose birthday is a legal holiday in every state of the United States. *Charles Dickens was the great writer who gave us the line, “Polly put the kettle on, we’ll all have tea.”

Under the professional guidance of Ricky, we spent that time exploring the vast array of coral forma-tions and marine life that exist in that portion of Mexico Rocks. The starting depth was approxi-mately three feet. As lobster season was officially opened on June 15th, we were jokingly tasked with spotting lobsters for lunch. Though we didn’t actu-ally catch any, lunch was still well taken care of (phew!!). After the 45 minutes’ snorkel at Mexico Rocks, it is off to the second snorkel location, Robles. Lo-cated approximately 13.5 miles north of San Pedro, the beach is literally just a stone’s throw from the Reef. With the average depth between the reef and the beach being approximately three feet and there being little to no boat traffic, it was very safe for to snorkel at one’s delight; while the guide prepares lunch. At Robles, guests have the option to snorkel, join in a sporting activity, explore the expanse of untouched beach or simply relax while waiting for lunch. Beach Bar-B-Q Chicken, Fish or lobster (de-pending on season), is generally served with roasted potatoes and pasta salad as sides. Those who had been swimming thoroughly enjoyed the delicious crispy potatoes and extra tasty pasta. After getting their fill, it was either a nice nap in one of the ham-mocks, or another dip in the water. Some guests

chose to go back to snorkel while others just relaxed on the beach. Around 2:00pm, it was time to start back south into town. The day trip normally leaves at 9:00am and returns by 3:30pm. This is just one of the many trips offered by SEAduced, a locally owned and family run busi-ness. Owners Elito and Rebecca Arceo have owned and operated SEAduced by Belize for over 15 years. Elito was born and raised in San Pedro, and has been a tour guide for more than 20 years. His wife Rebecca, originally from New Mexico, moved to Belize in 1993. Their aim is “to provide each and every one of their guests with memorable adventures while they maintain the highest standards to protect the environment”. Q: What kind of room has no windows or doors?

Riddle Me This:Riddle Me This:Riddle Me This:Riddle Me This:Riddle Me This: Answer below...

“Hey, Davin. Do you know that today is a special day?” “It is?” “It sure is,” I said. “Today is your mommy’s birthday.” “I didn’t know she had birthdays,” he said. “How old is she?” “She’s twenty-six.” “Wow! That’s really old. I better get her a present.” A few minutes later he came upstairs and said, “Grandpa, I need a little box for my mom’s present.” “Here,” I said, after rummaging around in the cabinet. “Will this do?” “That’s just right. I got her a great present.” “Where did you get it?” “My friend Lichi that lives next door gave it to me. Will you help me wrap it?” “Sure.” When Melody got home a half hour later the package was wrapped and had a ribbon and a bow. “Ooh! This for me?” Melody asked. “What is it?” “It’s a surprise,” Davin said. “You have to guess.” “It’s kind of heavy. Is it chocolates?” “No-o-o-o!” Davin laughed. “You’re not even close.” “Then it must be jewelry,” Melody said. “You know I like jewelry. Is it some-thing made out of gold?” Davin found this to be hysterical. “Mom, you’ll never guess in a million, gazillion years.” “Aha!” Melody said. “I see it has some juice leaking out of this corner of the box.” She caught a few drops on her finger and tasted it. “I know what it is,” she said. “It’s a jar of pickles.” “I knew you couldn’t guess it,” Davin said. “It’s a puppy!”
