Nowyou can enjoy them with a mod-ern influence thanks toCanolaInfo’s “Decades of Deca-dence” recipe collection by EllieKrieger, M.S., R.D., host of theCooking Channel’s “HealthyAppetite.”Krieger updates six iconic

desserts with heart-healthy ingre-dients such as canola oil, low-fatyogurt and whole-grain flour tohelp keep calories in check andsaturated fat content low. Eachdecadent dessert has less than400 calories per serving and ismade with canola oil, which hasthe least saturated fat and mostomega-3 fat of all common culi-nary oils.“Simple ingredient swaps like

Canola oil cooking spray1⁄3 cup packed dark brown

sugar4 to 5 pineapple rings

(about 1⁄4 of wholepineapple) sliced about1⁄2-inch thick

2 Tbsp chopped crystallizedginger

1¼ cups all-purpose flour3⁄4 cup whole-wheat pastry

flour*3⁄4 cup granulated sugar1 tsp baking powder1 tsp baking soda1 cup low-fat buttermilk½ cup canola oil2 large eggs

1½ tsp vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 350° F.Generously spray bottom of 9-inch nonstick layer cake pan

with canola oil cooking spray.Sprinkle evenly with brownsugar, then arrange pineapplerings on top in one layer.Sprinkle chopped ginger piecesin spaces around pineapple ringsand in their centers. (NAPSA)—As the AffordableCare Act is set to be fully imple-mented, there is still much confu-sion about how the law will affectyou and your family. Here are 10things to know about the healthcare law’s protections and bene-fits, courtesy of AARP:

1.Health insurance companiescan no longer drop your healthcoverage if you become sick ordisabled.

2. Insurance companies cannotdiscriminate against you becauseof your health conditions or gen-der. That means health insurancecompanies can no longer chargeyou more simply because of yourhealth status or gender.

3. Insurers cannot deny healthinsurance to anyone under age 19because of a pre-existing condi-tion, such as cancer, diabetes orheart disease. In 2014, Americansof all ages will be afforded thisprotection.

4.The health care law stopsinsurance companies from limit-ing lifetime coverage for essentialhealth benefits. In 2014, thisapplies to yearly limits, too.

5.Preventing illness with theright immunizations and screen-ings will be simpler and lessexpensive. Most insurance plans,including Medicare, now mustcover preventive benefits such asimmunizations and screenings fordiabetes and certain cancers. Besure to check with your insuranceplan about what preventive ser-vices are covered with no out-of-pocket cost to you.

6. If you are uninsured, findingaffordable health coverage is noweasier, as it can be purchased viayour state’s Health Insurance Mar-ketplaces. It’s like an online shop-ping mall. You’ll be able to comparethe benefits and costs of healthplans side by side and pick theplan that works best for you andyour family. maraschino cherries to add colorand flavor to cookies, cakes andother dishes. That’s why it’s com-mon to find a jar or two in theirpantries. That way, the cherriesare available when the inspirationstrikes.

Gluten-FreeCherry Pistachio

White Chocolate Chip Cookies

1 cup (2 sticks) unsaltedbutter, softened

½ cup granulated sugar½ cup light brown sugar,

packed2 large eggs1 tablespoon heavy cream2 teaspoons pure vanilla

extract2 cups pastry-quality all-

purpose gluten-free flour1 teaspoon baking powder¼ teaspoon kosher salt15 maraschino cherries—

stems removed, patted dryand chopped

½ cup shelled pistachios,chopped

6 ounces good-qualitywhite chocolate chips

Preheat the oven to 350° F.Line 2 baking sheets withparchment paper or siliconbaking mats.

Cream the butter with thetwo sugars in a mixer. Beat inthe eggs, one at a time, beat-ing until each egg is fullyincorporated. Add the creamand vanilla and mix well.

Combine the flour, bakingpowder and salt in a mixingbowl and whisk together. Addto the butter and sugar mixtureand beat just until combined.

With a spatula, scrape thebottom and sides of the mixingbowl to make sure all ingredi-ents are thoroughly combined.Add the chopped cherries, pis-tachios and white chocolatechips and fold in.

Drop spoonfuls of the cook-ie dough onto the preparedbaking sheets. Gently flattenthe cookies. Bake for 10–12minutes or until lightlybrowned. Let cool on the bak-ing sheet for 5 minutes, thenremove to a wire rack to finishcooling.
