Shot & Wad

by Mike Meyer

My favorite time of year is here. Hi temps in the 60’s and 70’s, making almost all outdoor activity comfortable,

(especially trap and skeet). Low temps are in the 30’s and 40’s, further reducing the number of mosquitos and their inherent threat of

disease. Now is the time to go outside and do stuff. Work on deer blinds, cut shooting lanes, cut wood, split wood, go hiking and, by

the time you read this, go bow hunting. I haven’t bow hunted in a few years, but I still recall the thrill of having a buck suddenly appear

below your tree stand, having snuck up from behind. Then, you have to get in shooting position without alerting him. Any way, get

outside and do stuff. You don’t have to wear a mask, unless it’s camouflage.

With the ongoing pandemic, and the resulting buying frenzy of all things related to firearms, it has been difficult maintaining a stock of

supplies for our reloaders. We have finally managed to get in some powder, primers, wads and shot for the shotgun reloaders, but I

don’t expect the supply to last long. We have a good selection of range brass, and various bullets that have been donated for the rifle

and pistol reloaders, but centerfire primers are almost impossible to get.

Come on out, load up on supplies and shoot a few rounds. Here are the shooters that broke 25 straight or better from Aug 25th to Sep

19th:

Newsletter Update

After careful consideration, the board of directors has decided to stop mailing printed newsletters, starting in September. Almost half of your yearly dues goes to provide a written newsletter, just to much of an expense. The website has the newsletter and you can down load it and print it. SFSC is one of the few clubs that provides a newsletter of any kind on a monthly basis.

Cowboys Shoot Up a Storm

I bet some of you have been wondering what the cowboys have been doing during the pandemic that

has plagued us since early this year. It certainly put a damper on events and some people. But not everyone

was slowed down. Our hats are off to all the folks who were out in the midst of it, helping others…and they

are still out there, giving it their best. It’s hard to know where to even begin thanking them…there are so

many dedicated and fearless people striving to keep our country safe & healthy. I do not want to slight a sin-

gle person for every moment they spent in helping others. They know who they are and may the Lord bless

each one of them! A big THANK YOU to them all.

The cowboy’s practice nights and matches were put on hold until the club re-opened. It was in mid-

June that we held our first match, with 32 shooters attending. So many things had to be reconsidered in how

we handled the match safely and follow the pandemic guidelines. But cowboy shooters are a determined

bunch and everything went well. And the July and August shoots followed the same protocol with success.

Even the Wednesday night practices found our faithful pards doing a lot of practicing….and laughing.

And that practicing paid off extremely well this year! Every one of our pards attending the state cham-

pionship (Wolverine Rangers Range War) in Port Huron over Labor Day weekend placed in their respective

categories. Let’s just say….we have some awesome cowboy shooters!! And here’s how we all did.

shooting, check out https://www.wolverinerangers.org

Yup! Our cowboys shot up a storm and it was a riot doing it. But our shooting was not the kind of riot

that we are seeing in our country lately. Please support the people trying to keep us secure and safe. I’m not

getting on my soap box except to encourage you to vote in November and to be thankful for what each of us

has. And, of course, remember to live life. Give it your best shot. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!

Happy Trails from Katie Callahan
