The Sacraments of Christian Initiation
IntroductionOur parish family is alive with the spirit of our risen Lord and you will find Our Lady of Lourdes to be a loving mother whom you can trust to lead you and your children to Jesus.
Our Christian Formation Program prepares a person for full initiation into the Catholic Church and a rich and active lifetime in the Church. It encompasses the preparation of adults for full initiation into the Catholic Church (RCIA), the preparation of families for the baptism of their children, and the preparation of those who have been baptized to receive their First Communion and Confirmation.
This booklet describes the program for children who have been baptized and are now seeking to receive their First Communion and Confirmation.
We at Our Lady of Lourdes are honored to work with you in providing a formation and education to your children that affirms their dignity as children of God and prepares them to develop and use all the gifts that God has given them to love Him with all their heart, all their mind, and all their soul and to love their neighbor as themselves.

Our TeamThe Christian Formation team at Our Lady of Lourdes includes the clergy of the parish, our Coordinator of Christian Formation and her assistants, and our exceptional team of Catechists.
We look to have each member of our team certified as Catechists, teachers of the faith, by the Archdiocese of Miami and to meet the “exceptional” standard in Religion by incorporating the National Catholic Education Association’s Assessment of Catechesis and Religious Education into our performance standards.
Pillars of Our Parish
Let us open our hearts to Mary, trusting without reservation that she will lead us to her son and safeguard our lives in Christ.
Let us pray one Holy Hour a week for the intentions
of the parish family of Our Lady of Lourdes, including
prayer for the intentions of the Holy Father and for
vocations to the priesthood and religious life.
Let us commit to actively participate in at least one ministry or group of the parish among the over sixty ministry opportunities.
Let us offer 10% of our income for the work of the
parish of Our Lady of Lourdes through the weekly offering
and let us offer 2% of our income for the work of the Archbishop through ABCD.

Living Our FaithWe are here to share with our children the hope and the life we have found in Jesus.
The formation and education that we provide at Our Lady of Lourdes builds on the foundation that parents have built and continue to build as active Catholic families.
As Catholics, we all are asked to live faithfully the precepts of the Church.
Gathering to worship our Lord at Mass on Sunday is as natural as breathing in and breathing out. It is the source and summit of all that we do. Particular, perhaps, to who we are as parishioners of Our Lady of Lourdes is that we express our unity in faith by:
• making a Holy Hour each week in the Adoration Chapel praying for the intentions of the parish family,
• joining the parish family in the total consecration of ourselves to Jesus through Mary, Our Lady of Lourdes,
• by serving in one of our parish groups or ministries, and
• contributing 10% of our income to the support of the parish.
The Christian Formation Program• Educational materials are available in both English and Spanish to
assist parents in bringing their children to Christ and to a mature understanding of the foundation of the Faith.
• Parents are responsible for the costs of educational materials.
• Classes are offered by the Catechists of Our Lady of Lourdes to assist parents in bringing their children to Christ and to a mature understanding of the foundations of the Faith.
• Children pass from one educational level to another through a series of written examinations.
• Children can take the examinations as often as necessary in order to pass to the next level of education.
• Children are also responsible for regular and active participation at Sunday Mass.
• Attendance at Sunday Mass is established through the use of either the Faith Direct attendance cards or parish envelopes; both of which include the family’s parish identification number.
RegistrationBefore registering with the Christian Formation Program, it is first necessary to be a registered member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church.
• Parish registration forms can be found in the welcome packets at all the entrances to the Church or online.

Those who have already been baptized into the Catholic Church and who wish to complete their initiation and to receive either their First Communion or Confirmation register with the Christian Formation Program of Our Lady of Lourdes through filling out the form included in this booklet or online.

There is no charge for registration
First CommunionChildren must have passed the examinations for all the educational levels leading to First Communion.
Children must have a record of at least thirty (30) weeks of Sunday Mass attendance in the prior twelve (12) months.
ConfirmationChildren must have passed the examinations for all the educational levels leading to Confirmation.
Children must have a record of at least thirty (30) weeks of Sunday Mass attendance in the prior twelve (12) months.
Enrichment ActivitiesSpecial activities are offered throughout the year to support and enrich the formation and education offered at home and in the classroom.
Parents are responsible for the costs of enrichment activities.
