…you have just won a scholarship to go and study in the University of Tokyo. You are excited but scared at the same time. You will be leaving in three weeks!
In pairs, discuss…
• What you are afraid of leaving behind you in Ecuador
• What your concerns are about what awaits you in Japan.
Be ready to share some of your partner’s thoughts with the class.

Today you are going to write a diary entry. I want you to imagine that you have just been awarded a SENESCYT scholarship to study abroad (it could be in the UK, the USA, Australia etc…). The diary entry could be made before you leave, after your first day or after your first week (or three shorter entries covering three different dates). It must be 500-600 words long.
CO: to write a diary entryLO: to use informal language
Formal features of a diary:
• MUST be headed by a date!!!!• address e.g. “Dear diary”
Stylistic features of a diary:
• informal register (use of informal language)• written in the first person e.g. “I found out today
that…”• with include reflection i.e. self-questioning• will reflect ‘real-time’ writing (thinking as you’re
writing)• talking to your diary as if it were a person
