Sermon by Jordan Gray Where Will I Be In Another Year? With the end of a calendar year there is always a tendency to look back-- and to look forward. Evaluations are made in regards to our financial status, our career pursuits, and other important matters. Surely it is appropriate to evalu- ate our spiritual welfare. Ask yourself this simple question : If I keep doing what I am presently doing, where will I be in another year? 1. Will I be a stronger Christian because I am doing things that will help me grow in Christ (2 Peter 3:18)? Or will I be weaker as a result of continuing to ignore the most important things in life? 2. Will I be a better Bible student? Will my knowledge of the word have in- creased through regular and consistent study? Or, will I still be only wishing that I knew my Bible better? 3. Will I have brought any lost soul to the Lord through a committed effort to teach others? Will I have invited folks to visit the assemblies, or encouraged to have a private Bible study? Or, will I only be giving lip-service to the whole no- tion of personal work? 4. Will I improve in my ability to react to life’s provocations in a godly and controlled manner? Will I be displaying more of the “divine nature” (2 Peter 1:4) as I deal with people and problems? Or, will I still be easily provoked and often fail as trails and temptations are placed before me? 5. Will I have broken that “bad habit” that has nagged me for so long? Or, will I still be offering lame excuses and trying to convince myself that “I can’t”? 6. Will my example be stronger? Will others begin to recognize dependability in me? Will I be constantly striving to do all I can as a disciple ( 1 Cor. 15:58)? Or, will I be counted as only a “lukewarm” Christian (Rev. 3:15-17)? 7. If I keep doing what I’m presently doing, where will I be in another year? Or, more to the point, where will I be in eternity? -by Greg Gwin Matt. 28 : 18-20

In What Do You Trust?
In the previous two articles we noticed from Joshua 11 that Jabin and the Anakim had their trust in the wrong thing. Jabin was trusting in a league of na-tions with an army said by Josephus to consist of 300,000 foot soldiers, 10,000 cavalry and 20,000 chari-ots. However that league could not save him! The Anakim were trusting in their physical strength. They were giants that so many were afraid to fight. However they were driven out of the land by Joshua. The only one who had his trust in the right place was Joshua for Joshua placed his trust in the Lord. God had told Joshua, “Do not be afraid be-cause of them, for tomorrow about this time I will deliver all of them slain before Israel. You shall hamstring their horses and burn their chariots with fire.” (Joshua 11:6 - NKJV) Forty years earlier the fear inspiring giants caused the Israelites to feel like “grasshoppers” but now Joshua trod them underfoot like so much grass in a field. So much for the giants. Joshua’s accomplish-ments are note worthy against such odds, it was possi-ble because he trusted God. When Israel finally en-tered the promised land, Caleb was an elderly man of 85 years. Caleb told the people on that day, “So Moses swore on that day, saying, 'Surely the land where your foot has trodden shall be your inheri-tance and your children's forever, because you have wholly followed the LORD my God.' 10 "And now, behold, the LORD has kept me alive, as He said, these forty-five years, ever since the LORD spoke this word to Moses while Israel wandered in the wilderness; and now, here I am this day, eighty-five years old. 11 "As yet I am as strong this day as on the day that Moses sent me; just as my strength was then, so now is my strength for war, both for going out and for coming in. 12 "Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the LORD spoke in that day; for you heard in that day how the Anakim were there, and that the cities were great and forti-fied. It may be that the LORD will be with me, and I shall be able to drive them out as the LORD said” (Joshua 14:9-12). “When the situation is hopeless …That’s the time for faith, for trusting in God! Actually there is no such thing as a hopeless situation for one who trusts in God… But the fact is that most of us turn to God only when we think the situation is hopeless. As long as we can find something in our circumstances on which to pin our hope we trust that possibility rather than God. Until we have used up all our options, and we can see no shred of hope in our circumstances ….Then, as a last resort, we may turn to God. Someone put it this way: ‘As long as we can think up possible answers – we depend upon human ingenuity – or luck – or coin-cidence – etc. Then, when alternatives are exhausted and there is nowhere else to turn…We give God His chance.’ How much better to trust God no matter what!
