Welcome to The Rocks Village Bizarre, proudly presented by Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority.
Friday nights from 13 November to 18 December, a world of mystery, magic, music and markets will descend upon the streets, shopfronts and spaces of The Rocks.
Meet captivating characters around every corner. Follow a two-storey-high floating man down the laneways and watch shopfronts come alive with incredible performances. Keep your eyes peeled for mysterious figures lurking in the shadows, revel in wickedly good cabaret and be entranced by cool contortion.
Take part in truly Bizarre experiences. Shake off the stresses of your week on the No Lights No Lycra dance floor, be dressed with finesse by Kamikaze Couture or get a glamorous makeover with Glitta Supernova.
Meander between open-air food stalls and graze on mouthwatering morsels. Hunt for handcrafted treasures and gifts at the Village Bizarre Night Markets, be inspired by design with Workshopped, and find the perfect Christmas surprises.

Plus, from 27 November, discover a lust-worthy curation of furniture, lighting and homewares from talented emerging Australian designers, presented by Workshopped.

Village Bizarre Night Markets, featuring WorkshoppedWelcome to the world of Vaudevillia—an outdoor lounge bar transporting you to a modern reinvention of the vaudeville variety show. A fresh ‘n’ salty assortment of hilarity and artistry featuring an inflatable host, three-piece band The Vaudevillians, crazy circus performances and physical comedy, presented by Slide Lounge. Stay cool amongst all the hot action with cold craft beers, ciders and cocktails from The Rocks Brewing Company.

No Lights No Lycra (NLNL) is a dance party held in complete darkness. There is no light, no lycra, no teacher, no steps to learn, just free movement.
At NLNL the lights are kept low so people can shake it all out without worrying about how they look. Like the Spice Girls said, “don’t care how you look—it’s just how you feel”.

Four characters in spotless pressurised suits find themselves in a bizarre new place, and begin to explore their fascinating new environment. Scouring their surroundings, in their wake they create a giant inflatable being.
Two storeys tall, it dances with the harbour breeze, between the buildings and across the cobblestones, influenced equally by their movements and the surrounding elements of our world.

Sepia JezebelsLurking at the edge of a laneway, three grotesque figures leer into the night. 250 years out of time, they roam the Night Markets with mute horror, trying to blend in and use their feminine wiles to make the most of every situation. Beware!

Professor Mac The Snake Oil MerchantProfessor Mac makes his living dispensing cure-alls. His practices are based in the realm of reality but with the gift of the gab he can convince his ‘patients’ of any medicinal solution.

UTS PlastinationBe inspired by the best and brightest young designers at the UTS Design Lab on opening night of The Rocks Village Bizarre.
Representing the next generation of designers, students will showcase their most creative and cutting edge projects, around the theme of plastic, from installations to interactive objects.

Julian Ashton Art School Watch out for talented painters and drawers, as artists from the oldest art school in Australia, The Julian Ashton Art School, make Village Bizarre performers their evening’s muses. You may even become a subject yourself if your unique look catches their eye!

Talking LamppostsTwo lampposts stand tall on George Street. They appear to be ordinary lampposts, until you get closer. These Lampposts are both very English. Their names are Victoria and David. They can somehow talk, sing, surprise, and what’s more, they have a distinctly old-fashioned view of the world!

THROUGH THE WINDOWS Window-shopping will never be the same again! Selected shopfronts in The Rocks will become the stage for a dynamic range of local and international performers.
Cloé Fournier French-Australian independent dance artist Cloé Fournier cuts a psychological and emotional edge in this movement performance, staged against the bold and bright backdrop of men’s fashion store Joe Bananas.

Henrietta Baird From the Kukyalandji people, in Far North Queensland, Henrietta Baird weaves a compelling story via a vocabulary of ‘natural dance’ in the handmade design shop of Wendy Murray.

Sydney Youth OrchestraLet the music paint a (moving) picture as the Sydney Youth Orchestra Wind and Brass Quintets fill Kendall Lane with popular 20th Century film scores and jazz classics. These musicians are current and graduate students of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music—the best of the best.
