“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is,
WHAT ARE YOU DOING FOR OTHERS?”- Martin Luther King, Jr.
Hey Tigers!Happy New Year! Can you believe it’s already 2015?! January is the month of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday, which inspired this month’s newsletter theme and song. MLK was an amazing man who emphasized his life through service, just like Key Clubbers! Today, his legacy still lives on. On another note, we are quickly approaching DCON and the registration deadline. The deadline to register for this year’s District Convention is January 24th, so remember to have your club elections and choose who you plan to send to represent your club and our wonderful division! Also please don’t forget to pay dues, unless you want your club to face the consequences of being suspended or even inactive! This is both unhealthy for the club and the division, so pay your dues! Lastly, don’t forget about our January DCM! The purpose of the DCM is to elect our next Lieutenant Governor of Division 35! It will be held on January 17th. For more info, please see page 13!See you soon, Tigers <3

The Youth Opportunities Fund (YOF) is an endowed fund for Key Club International held within the Kiwanis International Foundation.
This fund uses earned interest to help Key Clubs and Key Club members serve the world by providing grants for service opportunities. The fund also provides academic scholarships for higher education. The Youth Opportunities Fund is established through a portion of your Key Club International dues and through the purchase of G. Harold Martin Fellowships.
YOF grants can help you take action. Look around and identify the things that need to get done in your school, community or world.
This being said, all clubs are encouraged to apply for YOF grants if you have a service project in mind that may be costly. Keep the YOF in mind throughout your term and present your application to your Lieutenant Governor to review and help you through the application process.

KEY LEADER
Key Leader is a weekend experiential leadership program for today's young leaders. This life-changing event focuses on service leadership as the first, most meaningful leadership-development experience. A Key Leader will learn the most important lesson of leadership—it comes from helping others succeed.
Hey Key clubbers, on Wednesday, December 17th we had a joint DCM at the Moore Library in Tacoma for a very Christmas oriented White Elephant. Both Divisions 34 and 35 participated and it was great to see so many different schools come together for a fun White Elephant Gift Exchange. Seeing all of the little gifts being exchanged was awesome. At the meeting, we discussed what each club has recently done for their community. Everyone had a great time and it was a great opportunity to meet fellow clubbers from other schools, even in a totally other key club division. It was a great time and I highly encourage any member of key club to come out to every DCM and get to meet and bond with new people. - Julian McCullum

Hobbies: Does church count as a hobby? Other than that I like going to Key Club and basically playing games. I also like reading.
What is your spirit animal and why:Griffin; Griffon; Gryphon- The spirit should exceed the human boundaries so why not a mythological animal? Also my brother took dragon. Oh yea, they stand for justice and good stuff like that.

I’m so glad that we have finally made it. After a swamped first semester of school, a myriad of Key Club events, and a relaxing holiday vacation, I’m sure you all are so excited to welcome in the New Year. A lot of people see this this month as a time of resolutions. However, I think it can better be characterized as a time to reflect and look forward to the future. What awesome things have you all done so far with your time in Key Club? How will you make the most of the rest of this year?
Thus far, I have seen Key Clubbers do some spectacular things. Shout out to Tasmia Ahmed and her division for collecting 70 gift cards for sex trafficked survivors in Portland. Shout out to the Communications Committee for completely renovating the face of the Pacific-Northwest district website. Shout out to Kevin Zhang for bringing the “bowl” to #palabowlo. These Key Clubbers have inspired us to do great things.
What’s even more exciting is that there’s still so much to come. Whether it’s participating in “Service to Infinity and Beyond” at the 2015 District Convention or finally reaching our goal for The Eliminate Project, the coming months have much in store. Don’t feel the need to make new resolutions; your passion for service, leadership, and camaraderie will naturally take the district to new heights this 2015.
In terms of the international level, there are several items we can anticipate together. First of all, 2015 is our year to eliminate maternal/neonatal tetanus (MNT) from the face of the planet! We’re taking things to a whole new level. The International Board has its own personal pen fundraiser (I’m bringing them to DCON!), and if all of Key Club International can raise an additional $80,000, board members will be kissing an octopus at our winter board meeting. (Yes, I’m very scared. But I do it fo’ da Eliminate!)
For clarity, our winter board meeting will be held in Detroit, Michigan, from January 22 to 25, 2015. The board meeting agenda has already been posted to the Key Club website. If you have any questions, or if you’d like me to bring an additional topic to the board, don’t hesitate to reach out.
Finally, with this year’s International Convention swiftly approaching, it’s definitely an event we can eagerly look forward to. Held from June 24 to 28, 2015, in Indianapolis, the home of Key Club International headquarters, this will be an experience you don’t want to miss. As it is the 100th anniversary of Kiwanis, a lot of our programs will be held in conjunction with Circle K and Kiwanis members, making for a whopping estimate of 12,000 attendees. We have some awesome events planned; we’ll be renting out an entire street of Indianapolis, Hellogoodbye will be performing, and we’ll be surrounded by tons of fun things to do (i.e. free museums, bikes to ride around the city, zoos, etc.). It’s the event of a lifetime, so start fundraising and planning now!
Indeed, 2014 may have brought much positivity and joy –especially in Key Club International— but I’m sure 2015 can offer even more. Have a great year, everyone!
