Thus the heavens and the earth were finished and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had made; and He rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and had made.

Hebrews: 4:7-8

Hebrews 11:39-40

And these all, having obtained a good report through faith received not the promise. God having provided some better thing for us. That they without us should not be made perfect

Hebrews 4:2 “For unto us was the gospel preached as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it”

Hebrews 4:3-6, 9-10

For we which have believed do enter into rest as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest; although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. For he spake in a certain place, of the seventh day on this wise. And God did rest the seventh day from all his work. And in this place again, if they shall enter into my rest. Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein. And they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief.

9:There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest he also hath ceased from his own works as God did for his. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief

Page 20: The Rest that Remaineth. There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God Hebrews 4:9.

Psalm 92:4-5

For thou Lord hast made me glad through thy work I will triumph in the work of thy hands. O Lord how great are thy works! And they thoughts are very deep.

Matthew 25:34

Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, come ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.

Then the wicked saw what they had lost; and fire was breathed from God upon them and consumed them. This was the execution of the judgment. The wicked then received according as the saints, in unison with Jesus, had meted out to them during the one thousand years. The same fire from God that consumed the wicked purified the whole earth. The broken, ragged mountains melted with fervent heat, the atmosphere also, and all the stubble was consumed. Then our inheritance opened before us, glorious and beautiful, and we inherited the whole earth made new. We all shouted with a loud voice, "Glory; Alleluia!"

SABBATH CHRIST

God created the seventh day, blessed and sanctified that day, signify God is our creator – Reminder that God is creator

Believer finds God’s creative power in the Sabbath – Eph 2:10 - For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Sabbath is God’s rest, heb:4-5, Heb 3:11 - So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into

my rest

Finds God’s rest, ceases from his own works. Math 11:28-30

God blessed the Sabbath day Gen 2:3: And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

God’s blessing through Christ to turn us from inquity. Acts 3:26: Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless

you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities. God hallowed that day, (God’s presence that makes something holy) Moses. Joshua

God makes us holy. Col 1:27

God sanctified this holy day, set it apart that his presence may abide there (Exodus 29:43-46: And there I will meet with the children of Israel, and the tabernacle shall be sanctified by my glory

Christs abiding dwelling presence, 1 John 4:15, Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God temple of God to dwell in. 2 Corin 6:16

Well, then, you see at every step of the way, every line of thought, brings us only face to face with that, that the Sabbath as it is in Jesus Christ, and as the believer in Jesus observes it, that alone is the seal of the living God. Saturday keeping is not the seal of God. Christ as He is reflected in the Sabbath of the Lord, through the Sabbath of the Lord, and in it, in the mind and heart of the believer, in the living image of God completed--that is the seal of the living God. Then there is written in the foreheads of that people the name of the Father.

Ezekiel 20:11-13

And I gave them my statutes and shewed them my judgements which if a man do, he shall even live in them.

Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths to be a sign between me and them that they might know that I am the Lord that sanctify them

But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness: they walked not in my statutes and they despised my judgements which if a man do, he shall even live in them; and my sabbaths they greatly polluted: then I said I will pour out my fury upon them in the wilderness to consume them.

The Church Transferred Sabbath Observance to Keeping Sunday Holy as the

Lord's Day:  The Church, on the other hand, after changing the day of rest from the Jewish Sabbath, or seventh day of the week, to the first, made the Third Commandment refer to Sunday as the day to be kept holy as the Lord's Day. The Council of Trent (Sess. VI, can. xix) condemns those who deny that the Ten Commandments are binding on Christians.

   Pope  Pius XII    Rome, Italy

Dear Sir;    Is the accusation true, that Protestants accuse you of?  They say you changed the Seventh Day Sabbath to the, so-called, Christian Sunday: Identical with the First Day of the week.  If so, when did you make the change, and by what authority?

Yours very truly,    J. L. Day

Page 44: The Rest that Remaineth. There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God Hebrews 4:9.

   The Reply:

THE CATHOLIC EXTENSION MAGAZINE                               180 Wabash Ave., Chicago, Illinois                              (Under the Blessing of Pop Pius XII)

Dear sir: Regarding the change from the observance of the Jewish Sabbath to the Christian Sunday, I wish to draw your attention to the facts:

    (1) That Protestants, who accept the Bible as the only rule of faith and religion, should by all means go back to the observance of the Sabbath. The fact that they do not, but on the contrary observe Sunday, stultifies

them in the eyes of every thinking man.

Page 45: The Rest that Remaineth. There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God Hebrews 4:9.

2) We Catholics do not accept the Bible as the only rule of faith. Besides the Bible we have the living Church, the authority of the Church, as a rule to guide us.  We say, this Church

instituted by Christ, to teach and guide men through life, has the right to change the Ceremonial laws of the Old Testament and hence, we accept her change of the Sabbath to Sunday. We frankly say, "yes, the Church made this change, made this law, as she made many other laws, for instance, the Friday Abstinence, the unmarried priesthood, the laws concerning mixed marriages, the regulation of Catholic marriages, and a thousand other laws.

Page 46: The Rest that Remaineth. There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God Hebrews 4:9.

(3) We also say that of all Protestants, the Seventh-day Adventists are the only group that reason correctly and are consistent with their

teachings.  It is always somewhat laughable to see the Protestant Churches, in pulpit and legislature, demand the observance of Sundays of which there is nothing in the Bible.

With best wishes    Peter R. Tramer, Edito
