It is a fact that NGOs exist in our society and are playing a very critical role in the development and welfare of the society. However, different people have different opinions and ideas about what an NGO is. Introduction:

Top 10 Things that you should know about NGOs:

The Relief India Trust explains the following 10 things that you must know about NGOs:

NGO stands for Non-Government Organization. They operate independently without being a part of the government. They do not have any intention to focus on getting power over people, and neither do they look for gaining any monetary benefits.

People and community are the main priority of the NGOs working anywhere in the world. Then it comes to the protection and upbringing of the environment and also the wildlife. The scope of operations of NGOs can be local, national or international. Currently, there are nearly 50,000 NGOs working all across the world. They are recognized by the United Nations through an act I 1947.

All the profits generated by the NGOs are spending back on the welfare of the community. They do have some products and services which generate profits, but they are given back to the underprivileged people.

Volunteers are the most important part of an NGO. They have the right passion and motive to help people without any intention of seeking monetary benefits.

Funds are extremely important for the NGOs. They generate funds through different ways and in the case of the NGOs, every penny counts. So, the NGOs should have an open approach to welcome funds from all major and minor sources.

The NGOs work in different sectors such as food, health, clean drinking water, education, women rights, child labor, environment and wildlife etc.

The NGOs ideally are not supposed to give their services, use funds or support any political cause or a military standpoint. The NGOs are not allowed to use weapons for any reasons and neither should they look to get any state secret information.

The NGOs basically work for giving the people their due rights. They organize different awareness programs in underprivileged areas to literate people about their rights.
