It is completely independent of the mains voltage and powered by a Li-Ion battery, which allows 400 fl ashes full power at 500 Ws.

Constant light distribution

The MB500 operates with a fl ash tube in omega form. In comparison to a U-formed tube, it provides a better light and an extreme constant light distribution. The fl ash tube is pluggable and exchangeable by the user. The fl ash triggering can be done by synch cable, by sla-ve, by IR-fl ash or by radio remote control. The synchro-nous voltage is 5 V. Therewith a safely handling with all established modern cameras, is assured. Furthermore by switched on FC (fl ash check) function, the modeling light will be switched off after fl ashing, and only after the complete charging of the capacitors, automatically switched on again. Therefore in dark studios a fl ash trigger control is easy.

Various fl ash modes

The MB500 features 3 fl ash options: Xenon fl ash, LED fl ash and a combination of Xenon with LED fl ash. The usual Xenon fl ash light can be regulated within 5 f-stops between 5 and 10 factor in 1/10 increments of an f-stop. The LED array can be used as a modeling light as well as a fl ash light. The fl ash light features an extreme short fl ash duration about approx. 1/15,000 seconds. Using the combi mode, fi rst the Xenon fl ash is activated and then after a selectable delay time the LED fl ash will be ignited. Both, the strength of the Xenon fl ash and the strength of the LED fl ash can be set up. Additionally the choice of the time delay between the fl ashes is possible. These options are opening a fullness of new possibilities, which enables the photographer an additional scope for creative composition and uncon-ventional solutions.

High performance by short recharging time

The MB500 can be charged using a charging socket with a thread to secure operation. The charging of the battery up to an 80 % capacity will be done in about 2.5 hours. Because of the screw thread a fall of the charging plug is avoided.

The MB500 features a charging time about less than 3 seconds to full power. It can deliver up to 5 fl ashes per second with 37 Ws each – outstanding data for a batte-ry device. The battery allows 400 fl ashes at full power and 6,400 fl ashes at minimum power. Power dumping is performed using internal resistors (APD System).

Big display, easy to read

The MB500 features a multiline LCD display, where functions of the device can transparently and easily be set up and controlled. The display can be turned upside down with the fl ip button, so that in case of hanging the device on ceiling tracks the display can be read correctly.

Bidirectional radio controllable

The MB500 is featured with a bidirectional radio controlled module. This module operates together with the Priolite remote control, which can be attached to the Hot Shoe of the camera. Nearly all functions of the fl ash device can be controlled on telecommand. The radio control displays the power setting of the device and its fl ash readiness. By organizing in 4 teams, each with 9 devices, in total 36 devices can be individually controlled. The system operates in a frequency range of 2.4 GHz, which is world wide approved for these applications.

Compatible accessories kit

The Priolite adapter system is compatible to Bowens S-type Bayonets as well. A lot of Hensel refl ectors can be fi xed with this clamp mechanism too.

The fl ash unit comes with a synch cable, a battery charging unit, the fl ash tube, the LED array and the glass dome.

Innovative LED array

For the Pilot light an LED array is used, which delivers an equivalent light output of approx. 100 watts. LEDs have an almost unlimited life cycle and can be dimmed without mo-difi cation of the color temperature. The LED array features its own cooling element, that permits long operational hours without overheating. Additionally a temperature depen-dent fan is implemented, which cools the complete unit - this guarantees a long uninterrupted time of use.

Rugged base, safe protection

The housing base of the MB500 represents an extrusion profi le. It holds its components safely, that results into an extreme rugged system. An elongated hole under the housing enables to fi x fl ash umbrellas and leads them safely over the complete length. Furthermore the umbrellas are clamped with a secured screw, so clamping will not damage the umbrella stick. Umbrellas can be used up to 10 mm stick diameter.

The standard equipment includes a glass dome in various coatings. It provides an excellent protection and enables modifi cation of the color temperature.

The main switch of the monolight is equipped with a high quality twist device, that is protected by an additional cover. Therewith it avoids an unintentionally switching-on. That attribute is particularly important in case of transportation, because a switched on device must not be transported.

The M500 features a multi voltage power supply for world wide use. It enables extreme fast

fl ash sequences and is featured with an extreme bright 300 watts modeling light bulb for

extra easy illumination of motives.

Extremely fast fl ash recycling time

The M500 provides extremely short fl ash recycling time.Within less than one second it recharges to full powerand can provide up to 6 fl ashes per second at minimum power. A powerful temperature control fan, avoids an overheating of the device. By reducing the fl ash power, excessive energy is dumped by a resistor (APD System).

For setting up the fl ash power, the device features a 3-digit LED display, which additionally simplifi es the set up of further parameters. The important signal “ready”,is displayed by the illumination of the test button and addi-tionally, by the illumination of the glass dome placed on the top side of the device. Thereby the readiness of the fl ash is seen very easily even from a far distance.

PFC – sophisticated high perfomance power supply

The integrated high performance power supply provides constant current during loading the capacitors. The main fuse of the building is protected this way, so that many fl ash units can be used within one power circuit without blowing the fuse. The technical term for this module is called Power Factor Correction (PFC).

Studied electronics at the Technical University of Berlin and was then active in development management for integrated circuitry for global companies. During this time he shared responsibility in the develop-ment of the fi rst automotive ABS systems as well as in the development of ISDN in the telecommunications branch.

In 1990 he became part of the management team at Hensel Studiotech-nik in Würzburg and later acquired shares in the company. Within the scope of his many years of activity as managing director, many innovati-ve products were developed such as the battery-operated Porty System, the TRIA studio generators as well as compact strobe equipment for the Expert Pro Series. At the end of 2008 Mr. Renschke withdrew from Hensel Studiotechnik.

Since 2009 Mr. Renschke has been busy in the development of a new premium brand: Priolite. Initial products such as the MB500 and M500 show convincingly the innovative force of the Priolite Company based in Würzburg.

An extremely compact studio strobe unit with Li-ion batteries will be presented at the Photokina 2010, supplemented by an extremely fast compact unit for worldwide use. Both units are supplemented by a comprehensive line of accessories and are capable of RF remote control. Some of the Bowens and Hensel accessories can also be used.

Priolite’s objective is to use state-of-the-art technologies such as LED’s and Li-ion batteries to create convenient lighting systems for today’s demands in the fi eld of professional photography combined with a unique bidirectional remote control. All this is packed into a sturdy metal housing with precision cast parts to prevent failure even under rough treatment.

All equipment is produced in Germany and subject to intensive quality control. This makes it possible to provide a 2-year guarantee on all parts with the exception of the fl ash tube and modeling light.

Priolite’s line of products is being expanded continuously. For this rea-son a battery-operated mobile generator for extremely short charging times will be introduced in the Spring of 2011. In parallel to this the line of accessories will continue to be supplemented and expanded.
