The real Chinese food New Posted by Leah Rehrig at Sunday, August 14, 2011 8:08:28 PM EDT Going into this trip there were a lot of things I was unsure of. One of my main concerns was whether I would like the food or starve for the next month. If you are a very picky person when it comes to food China probably is not the best choice for you. If you are willing to embrace the culture and try new things I would highly recommend it. Over the course of the trip you have the opportunity to try a lot of different foods, some you like and some you don't like. Since the Chinese culture consists of eating family style there are always many different choices for you to try during mealtimes so you are bound to find something you like. Some things to expect while you dine in China. Round Tables with Lazy Susan Reasons for the round table: 1. More people can be seated together. 2. It is easier to converse with everyone in the group, whether they are seated aside of you or across the table. 3. It allows the host to take care of everyone in the group more easily than if the table was square or rectangular.

Typical Chinese Place Setting

The typical place setting at the table consisted of a plate, napkin, tea cup with a saucer, small bowl for soup or rice, and chopsticks.

Chopsticks: You learn quick! Prior to this trip I only ever used chopsticks one time so it was a learning experience for me. Eating everything with chopsticks was definitely frustrating at times since some things were easier to pick then others. Since forks, spoons, and knifes were not available, chopstick became your new best friend. By the end of the trip we all got pretty good at using them and when regular utensils were available we opted for the chopsticks.
