ADJUTANT ’S REPORT BY S I D BOTELER

“God Give Us Men”

Josiah Gilbert Holland (1819-1881), a poet and founder and editor of the popular Scribner’s Monthly (afterward the Century Magazine, penned these famous words: God give us men! A time like this demands strong minds, great hearts, true faith and ready hands; Men whom the lust of office does not kill; Men whom the spoils of office cannot buy; Men who possess opinions and a will; Men who have honor; men who will not lie; Men who can stand before a demagogue and damn his treacherous flatteries without winking! Tall men, sun-crowned, who live above the fog in public duty, and in private thinking; For while the rabble, with their thumb-worn creeds, Their large professions and their little deeds, Mingle in selfish strife, lo! Freedom weeps; Wrong rules in the land and waiting. Justice sleeps. HONOR ----Mighty Men of Valor---- Whose faces were like the faces of lions…. I Chronicles 12:8 It is man’s nature to forget history and its lessons and values, and in so doing to lose his way. Our founders would roll in their graves if they could see the unconstitutional abuse of power in our nation today. They would take any number of our current leaders to the woodshed and do some serious slapping. Taken From: The Warrior Soul by Jerry Botkin and Stu Weber, p. 92

A Walk in the Shade

A week ago as I was driving up old highway 49 I recalled seeing a large group of men, women, and chil-dren riding in wagons and on horses. Their travel was ever so slow and yet steady as they moved North on the old road. Later that same day I saw another train of people with wagons and horses as they traveled West on highway 80 through Pearl, Mississippi. I remembered seeing these same types of trains of wagons and horses years ago as they traveled South on highway 45 North of Meridian in route to the meeting of others for the opening of the Dixie National Rodeo in Jackson. Many had left their homes weeks before the start of the Rodeo and traveled a long way from their starting point. I have realized in my life that nothing happens by chance when God is in control. And I certainly do believe that God has never taken a day off. Which brings me to the reason I wanted to share the story of the wagon trains and the Dixie National Rodeo with the following story. Exodus 13:21 And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night:22 He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people. It is not by chance that the bible readings during the month of February for many Churches deal with the Exodus story. The Exodus story and the wagon trains traveling toward the opening of the Dixie National Rodeo provide us with a picture of many people of all stations of life. Each person called according to their heart. Though the people of the Exodus and each of us today are separated by many generations we are the same. Their witness could be seen in their common cause and faith that God would keep them safe and pro-vide a way in their travel. We are no different in knowing and believing. One of the common and most visi-ble connections with all of the wagon trains I have seen over the years has been the Confederate Battle flag leading way. A really Big Flag! They were not ashamed of God or of who they were and you should not be neither. All of us are a part of the Exodus. Moses brought Gods people to the mountain. Jesus Christ will someday soon bring us to His Father in Heaven. Are you ready to walk? God will go before you. Even in the hottest desert He will give shade under the cloud and even at night, in the dark ness of times He will guide your path by the light of His Son, Jesus Christ. May God Bless and keep you.
