10The Purpose in His Death

THE BIBLE WAY TO HEAVEN

Realize That God Loves You. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16).

The Bible Says That All Men Are Sinners. “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory to God.” (Romans 3:23).

God’s Word Also Says That Sin Must Be Paid For. “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23).

The Good News Is That Christ Paid for Our Sins. “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8).

We Must Personally Pray and Receive Christ by Faith as Our Personal Saviour. The Bible Says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13).

Look at what He has done for you. Will you serve Him? He deserves all!

Do you have an advocate to

represent you on judgement day?

To Bring Mankind Back to God (18) Man is separated from God at birth due to sin inherited from Adam. Read Romans 3:9-12 and 5:12. Before Adam and Eve disobeyed God’s command, they had full fellowship with Him. Once sin entered, the fellowship was broken and we see them hiding in the Garden of Eden. God calls out to them, “where art thou?”. God came to them and shed the blood of an animal to cover their naked bodies. Hebrews 9:22 tells us there can be no forgiveness of sins without the shedding of blood. Jesus Christ had to come and die, shedding his blood for the sin of the whole world.

The purpose in Jesus Christ’s death is to make a way back to God. He has satisfied God’s just demands for the punishment of sin. Your sin debt has been paid. You must believe on Him to accept the payment for your sin and bring you back into fellowship with God.

What did Christ do during the three days between his death and resurrection? Peter gives us a little glimpse into those three days. The Bible says, “He went and preached unto the spirits in prison”. Who are these spirits? The word spirit is never used in reference to humans in the New Testament. These spirits in prison refers to the fallen angels. Read II Peter 2:4-5 and Jude 6-7 for more clarification. God must judge and punish sin. These angels sinned against God and He, “cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment.” These same angels are still in hell awaiting the future judgment of God.

To Bring Fallen Angels a Word (19-21)

“Live With Hope” a Study in I Peter” Lesson 10

Verse twenty says these fallen angels, “were sometime disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah.” These angels seem to have fallen sometime between creation and prior to the flood. Christ went and preached to these fallen angels. What did He preach? It was not the Gospel but victory. He proclaimed that He had won the victory over sin, death, and hell. He showed that God became man in the person of Jesus Christ.

To Become Our Great Intercessor (22)

Jesus Christ acts as our defense attorney in God’s court. Read I John 2:1-2. An advocate pleads the case for another. It is an intercessor. The Bible also teaches us that Christ intercedes on behalf of our prayers. In the flesh, we cannot pray as we should. Imagine you are in a courtroom charged with a crime. The prosecution tells all the horrible details and all you can think is I’m guilty. It is now the defense’s turn. You have to say nothing because you have an intercessor there on your behalf. He answers your charges as guilty. Just as God the Judge begins to drop the gaveling to sentence you, your intercessor raises His bloody nail pierced hands. You are innocent!!

Your Thoughts

What is Jesus Christ doing right now? The Bible tells us He is in Heaven acting as the believer’s intercessor. An intercessor pleads on the behalf of another. The Bible tells us in Job chapters 1-2 that Satan accuses believers to God.
