Mature Phase Summary:
Mature Phase products do not receive new features and support services are limited. You can continue to deploy existing applications built on Mature Phase products
however; Progress strongly recommends that customers use newer versions to build next-generation products. Mature Phase products will NOT be evaluated for
certifications on new operating environments.
Due to the advanced age of Mature Phase products, not all support services are available. With the knowledge and skills available, Progress Technical Support will
provide commercially reasonable efforts to resolve customer issues and answer customer questions on Mature Phase products covered under Standard or Extended 24/7

Registered products of the UNIX® 98 Open Group are supported by http://www.opengroup.org/. Membership details at http://www.opengroup.org/openbrand/register
HP-UX 11i (11.1) OS Patch PHSS_24638 recommended for Progress ServicePack and Fathom installations
Neither the Internet SCSI (iSCSI) nor the Common Internet File System (CIFS) protocols are currently supported by Progress Software products.
Software support policy for Windows Tablet XP 2005. The Microsoft Windows XP Tablet 2005 operating system is a superset of the Windows XP Professional operating
system; applications that are compatible with Windows XP Professional also run on Windows XP Tablet 2005 Edition. Progress Software does not guarantee support for
Windows Tablet XP 2005 features that are not part of the Windows XP Professional operating system and any issues found with these Tablet XP features relating to
Progress Software products, will need to be proven against the Windows XP Professional operating system before contacting Progress technical support. For more details
on Windows Tablet XP 2005 features, support and compatibility please refer to the following on-line Microsoft documentation:
Progress and OpenEdge 32 Bit Products are supported on operating systems that can either sustain 32 Bit or 64 Bit kernel modes. The following table defines the support

Platform Notes:
VMware support.
VMware is a third-party software product that provides a hypervisor environment that enables multiple Intel operating systems (for example, Windows® and Linux®) to
execute concurrently on the same physical (Intel®/x86 based) machine. VMware itself is transparent to the "guest" operating systems and the applications or middleware
which operate above those operating systems. Progress Software does not specify support for the VMware product because VMware itself provides transparency to the
operating systems, applications, and middleware that operate above it to which we do support.
Progress V9.1E and associated Fathom products have been evaluated against the following VMware (MS Windows) editions and there are no known issues associated
with virtualization:
VMware GSX Server 3.1
VMware Workstation 5
VMware ESX Server 2.5
SCO OpenServer 6 certification and support:
SQL RDBMS support is not available until the OpenEdge 10.0B04 and Progress V9.1E03 Service Packs.
SCO OpenServer 6 certification is dependant on the platforms ability to natively support UnixWare 7.1.x applications. OpenEdge 10 support for OpenServer 6 is
achieved via the UnixWare 7.1.4 OpenEdge product offering (Media ID 191). For more details regarding UnixWare and OpenServer 6 compatibility please refer to the

Progress V9.1E is the last major Progress release to support SQL89 access. Customers should migrate to the SQL92 access products.
LifeCycle Status: Fathom products follow the same Progress Software LifeCycle rules as the Progress products.
On the release of a new maintenance version the existing edition will retired after two months (9.1D → 9.1E).
On the release of a new enhancement version the existing edition will retired after nine months (9.0 → 9.1).
More details on LifeCycle policies can be found at the following URL: http://www.progress.com/products/lifecycle/index.ssp
OpenEdge DataServer for Oracle: Oracle patch 10.1.0.4 is recommended for 10g installations.
Third Party Product Notes:
Version V9.1C of Tugboat Software’s Roundtable TSMS® product is the only edition to support Progress Dynamics (all versions) Business Objects ODBC connectivity matrix:
General Product and Platform notes and information
Linux Notes:
The Linux Operating System supports the following hardware platforms (as of May 2005):
Intel x86 (32bit)
AMD64 (64Bit)
Intel EM64T (64Bit)
Itanium Processor Family (64Bit)
IBM POWER (former IBM iSeries and IBM pSeries systems) (64Bit)
IBM zSeries (64Bit)
IBM S/390 (31Bit)
Progress and OpenEdge products currently support the Linux Intel x86 (32Bit) platform
The future OpenEdge 10.1A release will provide support for the Linux AMD64 and Linux EM64T platforms.
Support for other Linux platforms, such as Linux POWER is being considered for future OpenEdge 10 releases.
To support the seven different Linux platforms, there are an indeterminate number of Linux distributions in the market. Customers have consistently asked for stability,
better performance, and reliability of the Linux platform as well as enterprise-class support. Progress Software cannot be effective in servicing customers if we attempt to
support a large number of different Linux distributions. It is our intent is to support a selected set of distributions that have long lifecycles and that are well supported by
the distributors and their partners. The primary Linux distributions to be supported are those from Red Hat and Novell SUSE (Enterprise editions only).
Support of the Network File System (NFS) protocol version 3 (NFSv3) under the Linux Intel x86 platform for Progress products, in particular the support of RDBMS files
(physical and recovery) on a NFS partition, requires updates and features found within the 2.4.21 Linux Kernel and key Progress Service Packs
Network File System (NFS) protocol versions NFSv2 and NFSv4 under Linux have not been certified and are therefore unsupported.
ProBuild: The ProBuild utility should be executed on the ‘Minimum OS Level’; the resultant custom binaries can be deployed to any of the supported OS levels. For
instance ProBuild is not supported on Red Hat EL 3.0 – Customers should use ProBuild under Red Hat EL AS 2.1 and then deploy to Red Hat EL 3.0 or Novell SuSE
Enterprise. The combination of Red Hat (3.0 & 4.0 editions) with JVM 1.3.1 may cause ’java.lang.OutOfMemoryError’ when running any of the unified brokers (i.e. the Application
Server). Java thread dependencies of Red Hat 3.0 and above requires a JVM level of at least 1.4.1. Progress V9.1E is built against Java 1.3.1 but can be deployed to
execute under a runtime JVM 1.4.1 environment - the only exception is the Progress V9.1E JDBC drivers. Possible workarounds are:
1) Set the ‘LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.19’ environment variable
2) Upgrade to JVM 1.4.1 BUT be warned the V9.1E JDBC Drivers will not function under JVM 1.4
3) Upgrade to OpenEdge 10
