It’s been a great start to 2019-20 school year! As we continue to get settled in for a healthy and safe school year, I’d like to remind our fami- lies of the many ways in which we can support your children. Our office is open daily from 8:00am - 3:30pm. The health office treats students for minor ill- nesses and injuries, provides daily and emergency medications with physician orders, provide education and referrals for health concerns, communicate student health needs with other staff members as needed, and respond to emergencies on campus. To provide these services in a safe manner, California Ed Code Section 49423 requires each student to have written permission from physicians and parents/guardians for the administration of any medication while at school. This includes all prescription and over-the-counter medication. These permissions are required with each new school year and the forms are available in the health office. Please also note that use of crutches, wheelchairs and other devices require a doctor ’s prescrip- tion indicating directions for use and that the student has been educated to use the device. Lastly, as the fall season approaches, and the weather begins to change, the following are re- minders of ways that we can all reduce the spread of germs and illness. Please share with your children: • Frequent, thorough handwashing before eating and after using the restroom • Coughing and sneezing into a tissue, sleeve, elbow, etc. (avoiding our hands) • Getting plenty of rest, drinking water, and maintaining a healthy diet. • Getting a flu vaccine from your provider If you have any questions, please feel free to call the health office at 327-6477. It’s great to be back and I look forward to a healthy and successful school year for all! Lori Cuadras, RN School Nurse
