There are many differences that make up the “PLUS” in UltraShift PLUS and differentiate it from its prede- cessor, the UltraShift. The addition of an electronically actuated clutch is the key… the most noticeable difference between UltraShift and UltraShift PLUS is the enhanced low speed maneuverability, especially the reverse gear operations. The latest generation of automated transmissions – the UltraShift PLUS – uses a concept called “active shifting.” This is a load based feature that allows the clutch the option to actively open and close during a shift or remain connected to the flywheel (a term we call “float” shifting). The “Electronic Clutch Actuator”(ECA) is the reason it feels different; it offers a much smoother approach. In addition to a completely different clutch actuation, the UltraShift PLUS offers improved software integrated and adjusted with the engine to provide ideal fuel efficiency and performance. More differences Low speed maneuverability – through gear logic and extended low and reverse ratio coverage in the Multipurpose and Vocational series, the driver can “creep” . This provides ultimate control for curbing, creeping, spreading, and paving. Hill Start Aid – exclusive feature on all UltraShift PLUS models helps prevent roll-back on steep grades. Smart gear selection and skip shifting – constantly monitors load, grade and throttle power to select the proper start, accelera- tion and cruising gear…less wear and tear on your driver and drivetrain. Enhanced engine braking – provides maximum engine braking to improve downhill performance, all at the flip of a switch. Finally, all Eaton transmissions can be serviced by any truck dealer in North America, which is an additional plus. Eaton’s first-generation UltraShift transmission used a centrifugal clutch to “float shift” by RPM.
