Interpersonal communication skills required for interaction with Philbrook visitors.

Must be able to meet physical demands and working conditions.

Equivalent Education/Experience High school diploma or equivalent One year gardening experience preferred. Familiarity with outdoor

working environment required. Valid driver’s license required.

SPECIAL JOB DIMENSIONS:

Physical DemandsWork is very strenuous with the requirement for standing and/or walking (60% or more of the workday) and routine lifting, carrying and pushing up to 50 lbs. A major amount of the work assignments require the employee to be capable of kneeling, crouching, turning/twisting and bending; handling, fingering, feeling, and good eye-hand/foot-hand-eye coordination is required for most assignments. is involved (in 20%-60% of the job duties). Ordinary hearing, vision including color, depth perception and field of vision is required. Ability to operate a computer is required for recordkeeping activities but represents very little time on a daily basis. Ability to drive various vehicles for use in gardens and for local travel is required.

Working ConditionsPosition requires employee to work outside (approximately 95% of the time) in both clement and inclement (hot, cold and wet) weather conditions; due to nature of work assignments, employee may be subject to unavoidable potential hazards related to mechanical tools and moving objects as well as some exposure to electrical, burn, heights, cramped quarter and noise hazards; the duties of the job will place the employee in situations (20%-60+% of the time) which involve exposure to atmospheric conditions such as dirt, fumes, dusts, odors, oil/grease, gases, chemicals, pesticides, etc. common to gardening, landscaping and lawn care.

Mental and EmotionalIn this position the employee must be able to work both under direct supervision and with minimal supervision as well as work effectively both alone and as part of a team, the work requires the employee to be able to work on several tasks at the same time and to execute their duties effectively under the pressure of deadlines (20%-60% of the time). The ability to demonstrate a positive customer service orientation and discretion when dealing with the public is required.

The employee must be capable of operating equipment such as autos and trucks and use both non-power hand tools and power hand tools (60+% of the time). They must be able to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, make simple arithmetic additions and subtractions, use measuring devices. The job occasionally (<20%) requires the employee to be able to read and interpret detailed prints and specifications, prepare detailed reports, inspect and examine for defects not easily identified, assemble/disassemble objects, perform maintenance of equipment and other similar tasks when necessary.

SECURITY REQUIREMENTSCriminal background check required due to the interaction with public (including children), and access to irreplaceable art objects. Valid drivers’ license and drug testing required.
