AWANA Store Items Needed

Each Wednesday night kindergarten-fifth grade children

in AWANA are busy learning memory verses and earning

AWANA Bucks by attending club, wearing their

uniform, bringing their Bible, Handbook or a friend and

completing sections in their handbook. About every six

weeks children participating in Sparks and T&T will get

to shop at the AWANA Store. This is where your help

comes in. We are currently collecting donations for the

AWANA Store. We are in need of new and gently used

gift items, large and small toys, games, prizes, etc. This

is a great way to clean out those closets, get rid of some

toys, and re-gift those items that weren’t quite you. A

box will be placed in the children’s hall to collect the

donations. If you’d like more information or have any

questions, please contact Dorothy Prins.

Child Dedication: Sunday, November 5th

At Walloon we see child dedication as a time where you

(parents) commit yourselves to becoming your child’s

spiritual leader in life. Child dedication is a public

commitment you make before God, your church, and

your family. Dedicating a child acknowledges God's sov-

ereignty not only over the child, but also Mom and Dad.

Parents present their child before God and His people

asking for grace and wisdom in carrying out their

responsibilities. You also come desiring that your child

might one day trust Jesus Christ as Savior for the

forgiveness of sin. The dedication is an opportunity to

express publicly your desire to lead and spiritually

nurture your child so your child will develop a desire to

love God and love others.

The scriptural root of a child dedication is found in 1

Samuel 1:27–28, where a godly woman named Hannah

prayed year after year for God to give her a child. He

answered her prayer and she gave birth to a son, whom

she named Samuel. When Samuel was born, Hannah

prayed these words:"For this boy I prayed, and the Lord has

given me my petition which I asked of Him. So I have also

dedicated him to the Lord; as long as he lives he is dedicated to

the Lord."

In Luke chapter 2 of the New Testament, following the

birth of Jesus, Mary and Joseph took the infant Jesus to

the temple and dedicated Him. In both Scripture passages,

the parents entrusted their child completely to God. The

pastors and I are thrilled to walk alongside you as you

raise your children to come to Love Jesus, Love Others

and Serve the World.

Set the Expectation

• Set high expectations. The goal is worship, so set the

expectations high and you may be surprised at your chil-

dren’s capabilities.

• Remember that they are children, they are not

always going to be still and quiet, they are going to have

bad days, they are going to get distracted and they are

going to embarrass you. But remember, it’s not about

you, it’s about the process.

• Be considerate of others. Training our children to

worship God is a high and important calling, but it

shouldn’t be accomplished at the expense of others

being able to follow along with the service. I’m not

talking about the occasional squeak or short cry, but if

your child is being so distracting that others around you

cannot follow the sermon then please, please, please

take them out.

• Try changing where you sit, see what works best

for your family.

Sit in the back; Depending upon where you and

your children are in the learning process, sitting in

the back may be a better option, it makes for an

easy exit.

Sit in the front; Sitting in the front makes it easier

for the children to see the pastor and less likely for

them to be distracted by others.

• Be consistent. They watch what others are doing and

respond accordingly. What is the message you want to

send? Figure it out and get the entire family on board

with that goal.

• Ask questions afterward. Quiz your children on the

way home from church. This will teach them to listen

and is a good way to evaluate how plugged-in to the

service they actually are.

• Enjoy. It is a beautiful benefit to be able to look

around and see all those little profiles looking up at the

pastor and participating in worship.

Set them up to win.

• Have a special “church-only” tote filled with a

Bible and noise-free activities for your child to do dur-

ing the service. Our church does not allow food or

drink in the auditorium, please do not bring them in for

your child. Make sure your phone and electronics are

off limits to your child during the service.

• Introduce your child to the pastors and worship

leaders. Children are more engaged if they feel seen

and known by the person leading the service.

At WLCC, we welcome families to attend service together

with their children.

DO YOU KNOW in hopes of making attending service

as a family more convenient; we’ve reserved the seats on

the back left side of the auditorium for families with

small children?

DO YOU KNOW we have a “family” room located at

the back left of the auditorium just for families with small

children?

DO YOU KNOW there’s a TV feed of the service

broadcasted in the lobby?

AND DO YOU KNOW, while it may seem obvious to

take a crying or screaming child to the lobby or the cry

room, a continually fretful, chatty, or whining child can

equally become a distraction to those around you? While

your child’s voice is precious to you, it’s been brought to

our attention that he’s probably not to others wanting to

hear the service.

WE WANT YOU TO KNOW it is not our intent to

offend families but rather respectfully create an

environment where everyone has an opportunity to grow

closer to Jesus Christ.

Kid Connection (continued) Dorothy Prins, WLCC Children’s Ministry Director

Tips for successfully introducing your child to corporate worship of Sunday

Thank you to everyone who helped out before, during and

after the WLCC Harvest Carnival. We couldn’t have done it

without you! It was a great evening for the kids and adults.

Thanks for loving like Jesus!
