PASEO SWIMMING THE PATH TO EXCELLENCE Charting our PATH in adversarial tides. We have no choice; this has come upon us like a storm. The initial shock of Covid19 has forced us to prepare ourselves for action. The last 2 weeks have been a collection of calls / meetings geared to adopting the best practices moving forward to reopen safely. Paseo Aquatics is working with the local government, Health Department, area facilities and our governing body of USA Swimming to create a plan of action. We also recognize that there will be phases of re-opening. Conditions that exist on day one will be different in one week and one month down the road. This brings a level of fluidity to the process that may prove both beneficial and unpredictable. Disclaimer: We are gathering information from many sources. Asweestablisha“BestPractices”format,innowaydotheseguidelinesensurethatcommunicabledisease,includingbutnotlimitedtoCOVID19,willnotbepresentinthefacilitiesweuse.TheCDChasstatedthatCOVID19cannotbespreadinproperlymaintainedpoolwater.ItisalsounderstoodthatCoronavirusisahighlyunpredictableandnewdiseasestillverymuchinaninfancystage.Westillhavemuchtolearn.AsaUSA-Swimmingorganization,werelyontheFacilitiestobeconstantlymonitoringandcheckingtheirpoolwaterforproperlevels. InforgingthisnewPATHandourprojectedreturntowater,itiscriticalthatPaseoAquaticsputinplacea“HoldHarmlessWaiver”asalevelofprotectionfortheclubanditsmembership.
Paseo Aquatics makes every effort to limit any and all inconveniences to which our families may be subjected. But it should be known that during this time we may experience setbacks. By conveying this message beforehand, we hope it will mitigate any frustrations. We all do better with change if we are prepared for it.
ENTERING A FACILITY ATHLETES EachFacilityweusewillhaveadedicatedentryandexitplan.Whilewewillaskeachfacilitytohavetheirdoors/gatesproppedopentominimizehandtouch,wecannotassurethiswillalwaysbethecase.Ifyoumustopenadoor,dosowiththebestsafetymeasuresinmind(i.e.locateahand-sanitizerstationthefacilitymayprovide—orcarryyourown).Whilewedon’texpectallfacilitiestobetakingtemperaturesuponentry,somemayrequirethismeasure.PaseoAquaticsCoachesmayormaynotbeequippedwiththermaltemperaturereadingdevices.Ifsuchdevicesareusedanytemperatureover100degreeswewillsuggestyouseekmedicalattentionandwillbeaskedtositoutofpractice.Ifaswimmer’stemperatureistaken,understandthisisintheathlete’sbestinterest.Physicaldistancingisparamount.Yes,manyswimmerswillbedroppedoffatthesametimetoreporttopractice.The6feetdistancebetweenindividualsistherecommendedsocialdistancingpractice,anditwillbestrictlyenforced.Wecannotpromiseanythingatthistime,butwillworkwithfacilitiestoestablishdedicatedentrypassages.Mostfacilitieshavemultiplewaysofingressandegress.PREPARINGTOSWIMProtectAgainstInfections:•Washyourhandswithadisinfectantsoapandwater(for20secondsorlonger)oruseahandsanitizerifsoapandwaterarenotreadilyavailable.DothisPRIORtoenteringthewater.
•Donotshareequipment.•Bringafullwaterbottletoavoidtouchingataporwaterfountainhandle.•Ifyouneedtosneezeorcough,dosointoatissueoruppersleeve/armarea.•Arriveascloseaspossibletothestarttimeofyourscheduledpractice.•Avoidtouchinggates,fences,benches,etc.ifatallpossible.•Donotattendpracticeifyouoramemberofyourhouseholddoesnotfeelwell.•Avoidanyextra-curricularorothersocialactivities.•Nocongregationafterswimming.
STAFF ThePaseoAquaticsCoachingStaffwillberequiredtoenterallfacilitieswearingamask.Coachesmustmaintainuseofthemaskuntilthecoachandhis/herswimmersareinaposition
wheresocialdistancingrequirementscanbeachieved.CoacheswilladheretoanyfacilityrequirementsandUSA-Swimmingrequirements.PaseoAquaticsCoacheswillNOTbepermittedondeckifhe/she:•Exhibitsanysymptomsofthecoronavirus:mildtosevererespiratoryillnesswithfever,coughand/ordifficultybreathing,orothersymptomsidentifiedbytheCDC.•HasbeenincontactwithsomeonewhohastestedpositiveforCOVID-19inthelast14days.•Isapersonwithunderlyingconditionsorconsideredtobeatahigherriskdemographic,asoutlinedbyjurisdictional,stateorfederalguidelines.PARENTS Tohelpreducetheriskofspread,weaskthatparentsrefrainfrombeingondeckduringswimpractice.Itisunderstoodtherearemanyagegrouplevelswithinourorganization—somethatrequireparentalsupervision.Ifthisisthecase,westronglyaskthatthesefamilieslimitthesupervisiontoONEparent.Thatparentmustpracticesocialdistancingandwearamask.(Note:PaseoAquaticscannotguaranteethatafacilityorUSA-SwimmingwillacceptthisOne-Parentrule.Wemaybesubjecttopoliciesandproceduresthatextendnolatitudewithrespecttoparentsondeck).ParentswillNOTbepermittedondeckifhe/she:•Exhibitsanysymptomsofthecoronavirus:mildtosevererespiratoryillnesswithfever,coughanddifficultybreathing,orothersymptomsidentifiedbytheCDC.•HasbeenincontactwithsomeonewhohastestedpositiveforCOVID-19inthelast14days.•Isapersonwithunderlyingconditionsorconsideredtobeatahigherriskdemographic,asoutlinedbyjurisdictional,stateorfederalguidelines.BATHROOMS AND SHOWERS PaseoAquaticsisexpectingallswimmerstoarriveintheirswimsuits,readytogo.Facilitybathroomswillnotbeusedforchangingintoandoutofgear.Afterpractice,swimmersaretodryoffandleavethefacilityintheirgear.ThereisabsolutelyNODECKCHANGING.Anysuchactionswillbetakenveryseriously,astheyviolateallSafeSportGuidelines.Somefacilitieshaveoutsideshowersthatmaybedeemedpermissiblesubjecttosocialdistancingrequirements.Coacheswillnothavetheabilitytomonitorallsuchactions.Itisuptoeachindividualswimmertouse“BestPractice”protocols.

STAGGERING TRAINING SESSIONSPaseoAquaticswilllooktostaggertrainingsessionsby15minutes.Thiswillallowforathletestoenterandexitwithoutbottlenecking.Itisimportantallathletesarriveandarepickedupontime.WHENSWIMMINGCoacheswillbeimplementingasafeplantopositionathletesintheswimlanesinaccordancewithUSASwimmingguidelines.Varyingageswillpresentvaryingissues,withsocialdistancingthemostchallengingofthese.Wearecurrentlyaskedtomaintain6feetbetweeneachswimmer.Weneedtimetounderstandhowtoconstructapracticesessionthatkeepscoachesandswimmerssafeundertheseguidelines.ThefactthatSenior-levelathleteswillpossessabettergraspofsocialdistancingthanyoungerswimmersmayrequireadifferentapproachtoourmanygroupsandpracticestructure.(Ex:Wemayalterthedurationofpractice,timebetweensessions,numberofsessionsperweekandgroupsize).WHILEINTHEWATER
•Followdirectionsforspacingandstayatleastsixfeetapartfromothers.•Donotmakephysicalcontactwithothers,suchasshakinghandsorgivingahighfive.•Avoidtouchingyourface.•Avoidsharingfood,drinksortowels.
•Maintainappropriatesocialdistancingfromotherathleteswhentakingabreak.•Wearyoursuittoandfrompractice.
TRAINING
•Mostinjuriesoccurearlyintheseason.Donotrushdeconditionedathletesbacktofullpracticeorcompetition.•Increaseactivitiesby10%eachweekuponreturn.•Focusshouldbeonahealthyenvironment,qualityexperience,progressivetraining.•Noexpectationsforcompetinginthefirst30days,smallermeetsin60day’slargermeetsin90daysasperUSASwimmingguidelines
POSTPRACTICE
•Washyourhandsthoroughlyoruseahandsanitizerafterleavingthepool.•Donotusethelockerroomorchangingarea.•Leavethefacilityassoonaspossibleafterpractice.•Showerassoonasyouarrivehome.
IN THE EVENT OF ShouldPaseoAquaticsgetnotifiedofaconfirmedcaseofCovid19• IfanathleteisconfirmedtohaveCOVID-19,PaseoAquaticwillinformfellowmembers/athletesof
theirpossibleexposurebutmaintainconfidentialityasrequiredbytheAmericanswithDisabilitiesAct.
• Fellowathletesshouldself-monitorforsymptoms.• Identifywheretheathletewasinthelanes,aswellasotherindividuals—parents,carpools,coaches,
lifeguards,otherpatronsofthefacility—theinfectedathletecameintocontactwithduringthe14dayspriortotestingpositiveorfirstdisplayingsymptoms.
Paseoaquaticswillnotifyaffectedathletes,whocameintocontactwiththesickathletewithinthe14dayperiodtogohomeandself-isolatefor14days. TUITION PaseoAquaticswillbereturningtofulltuitionuponourreturntowater.Wewillmakeeveryefforttoavoidanytypeofincrease—butpleasenoteatthispointnoswimfacilityisextendinganyreliefasitrelatestorentalfeesandassociatedcosts,despitemandatesthatcausea
decreaseinthenumberofswimmersperlane.Thiseffectonourswimclub,coupledwithincreasedtimeondeckforcoachestoconductextendedpractices,willhaveatremendousimpactontheorganization.
