    Paper VS. Electronic Ticket

    Paper Ticket

    - the pieces of paper that contain the exact flight

information and are labeled as flight coupons.(Tickets are inpaper form)

Electronic Ticket (E-ticket)- an innovative way of issuing travel documents, which

eliminates paper and creates an electronically held record ofthe transaction.

Advantage(s) of Paper tickets:With paper tickets, the passenger can

check the schedule of their flight, and othersuch information indicated in the ticket.

    Disadvantage(s) of Paper tickets:

It costs an airline more money to producepaper tickets, and some airlines are taking intopractice of passing those costs on to thepassengers. Few airlines and agencies alreadysurcharge paper tickets, and others are expectedto follow suit.

    Advantage(s) of E-tickets:

It is safe. An electronic ticket cannot get lost, stolen,or left behind.

It is more practical. Should you have a change inmind and/or in preference, changes can be made inyour electronic ticket over the telephone withoutany hassle for both the passenger and the agentissuing the ticket.

It is relatively faster. Passengers no longer have to gothrough the hassle of collecting the ticket fromticketing offices.

    February 2006 AIRLINE OPERATIONSTicketing

    Disadvantage(s) of E-tickets:

With an electronic ticket, thepassengers ticketinformation is held within the airlines reservationsystem. Passengers will only be given a copy of theitinerary and the contract of carriage.

International travel often involves using paper ticketsinstead of electronic ones because in some countries, paper tickets will serve as a legal documentation andphysical proof of onward or return transportation forimmigration purposes.

E-tickets are especially disadvantageous in the eventwhen computer reservation systems are down, orwhen operational problems occur within an airline.
