Hello SBPHC! I hope that all my fellow Parrot Heads made it through Hurricane Irma with minimal damage or power loss. This was the first major hurricane I have been through and it was pretty interesting needless to say. The Keys took a hit, but it looks like they are cleaning up quickly and expect to reopen to tourism this month. Meeting Of The Minds will still be on for this year. Don't forget about the HUGE "Patti Myles Open" golf tournament coming up Oct 7th at Bobby Jones golf course. It will be a shot gun start at 8am, PLEASE get your registration form in ASAP. If you have not done this tournament before it is A LOT of fun and you DO NOT NEED TO BE A GOLFER to do this one. I'm going to say it again.....If Phyllis can do it, so can you! The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is scheduled for Saturday, November 11th at Nathan Benderson Park. See KatieGirl for details! We have A LOT of events coming up through the end of the year and if you are not getting the emails let one of the board members know so we can get you added to the list. Don't forget to check Facebook, email, 5 o'clock update, newsletter and the web site for all events coming up so you don't miss any events, and of course if you have any questions please email me at [email protected].
SBPHC...What time is it?
It’s time for a team drink!

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Sarasota Bay PHC 2017/2018 “Not Bored”
The Sarasota Bay Parrot Head Club, Inc. is a not-for-profit, social organization formed to participate in community and environ-mental projects while providing a variety of social activities for people with similar interests.
Our Purpose:
To foster awareness and understanding of local environmental issues and to provide an organized means for active participa-tion in projects which benefit Sarasota’s environment. We are all fans of the music and lifestyle of Jimmy Buffett.
Here is the MAGIC TICKET FOR THE Septem-ber SOCIAL, for Renewing members! Cut this out or take a photo of it with your phone and show it to a Bored member, who will give you your FREE REAL TICKET.
We had 40 people at Happy Hour. It was a beautiful evening out on the patio. This was a fundraiser for Alzheimer's and we raised $100.00 in the 50/50 raffle. Congratulations to Kevin Waterman on winning the $25.00 gift certificate to Bogey's and to Cindy Clousson on winning the 50/50 split. Thank you to everyone who came out and also thank you to Mike and Austin at Bogey's and your staff. Mike Fontaine

CALLING ALL PARROT HEADS...JOIN OUR TEAM!
“PARROT HEADS FOR PATTY”
This year’s Memory Walk will be held on Saturday, November 11,
2017 at Nathan Benderson Park, located at 5851 Nathan Benderson Circle 34235 (near University Town Center) The park is beautiful
with a 3.25 mile walkway around the lake. You do not have to actually walk the walk to participate but please sign up & show up...
we need your support.
SBPHC has been participating in the walk since 1996; It is the
BIGGEST charity our Club supports. Anyone can walk; young, old, Parrot Head or not. This is a Keet friendly event & a great opportunity for them to show their
involvement with our charities. Please wear your brightest Parrot Head shirt to make sure that everyone knows who's team has the best team spirit! Let's get out there &
show Sarasota County how we "Party with a Purpose" in honor of our friend,
Patty Myles.
Registering is easy. To join our team online, go to this link: http://act.alz.org/site/TR?fr_id=10297&pg=team&team_id=383735 which will take you directly to our
team page. Or sign up at the next monthly social. If you raise $100.00 you will receive a Memory Walk 2017 t-shirt to wear with pride.
Registration starts at 8AM, and the walk starts at 9AM. Look for our registration
table with the Parrot Head flag. We will have plenty of helpers to sign in & collect
any monies you have to turn in. No donation is too small. Please make sure to
turn your monies in at our registration table so they count for our team.
If you are unable to join us on November 11, you can still register and raise money
for this worthy cause. Please see Katie at the next Monthly meeting for details on donating or sponsoring a walker.
Poptops & pull tabs...please be sure to turn them in by the September meeting. These
are collected year round & turned into cash to add to our Memory Walk donations.
Don't forget the SBPHC Alzheimer's Golf Tournament held on October 7, 2017 at
Bobby Jones Golf Course with an 8am shot gun start. Please see Mike Fontaine &
his committee for the sign up & details. These are 2 great events....so don't miss out on all the fun!

Thank you to these Parrot Heads
for taking another trip around the sun with us!
We’re so glad you decided to stay!
We need more Fruitcakes in this world! And less bakers!
Do you love to be a social Parrot Head? Well, do we have a job for you! Fruitcakes are members that help the new members get acquainted with the club. Fruitcakes help new members learn all the ways our club communicates to the members, understanding all of the club events and charities.
We want to make sure that every one of our members knows who, what, where, how and why about our club and to make sure they meet and make new friends.
If you are interested in being a Sarasota Bay Parrot Head Club Fruitcake, great! Please con-
“The White Lei” If you see someone wearing one, that means they are new members to the club. Welcome them and tell them how much fun they are going to have as a member of the Sarasota Bay
Parrot Head Club! Every month I spotlight the new members that I have met at the meetings. Next time you see someone wearing a white lei, ask them to join your group! They all joined to make new friends, clean the environ-ment and have a lot of fun along the way.
LOUISE McCARTHY is new the area; she retired and moved from Salem,
New Hampshire in July. She has a friend that has lived here for 20 years,
she visited her, loved it, bought a condo, and now is a resident of Sarasota!
Louise’s realtor, Faith Michales, a SBPHC member, suggested that she join.
She is interested in public service, meeting new people and loves Jimmy
Buffett, she should fit right in!!
JOHN RUSSO is originally from Brooklyn, he moved to Sarasota in 1999 and
after some loss in his family, he decided not to move back. He is a friend of
Lori Lockhart, who recently joined the club. He joined to meet new people,
have fun and is open for anything. John likes music (his son is a local
musician), and he likes to dance. Let’s keep him busy, girls!!
“The Three Amigos”
LISA MEAD was a member in 1997, but life got in the way, and she was unable to continue with
her membership – but she is back now!!! She moved from Detroit over 24 years ago on a job
transfer. She met Mitch & Alicia while working that job, they call themselves the Three
Amigos….and they all joined together at the August social.
MITCH “RYDER” HELTON moved to Sarasota in 2012 on a job transfer
from Chicago. He was recruited to join by the girls. His first Buffett
concert was the last one in Tampa in June…he rates the tailgating a 10
& the concert about a 7! He joined to chill & his shrink suggested this
would be good therapy…
ALICIA WHEELER moved to the Sarasota area when she was 6. Alicia’s
first Buffett concert was in 1979 when the tickets were $10-$12 each! They sat next to our
President, Mike Fontaine, and the rest of the Parrot Heads at the Tampa Bay Rays game…. of
course they decided to join the SBPHC. Alicia is an empty nester who is looking to have some
fun!!

Ongoing Community Service Projects
Pop Tops/Pull Tabs: Don’t throw them away! Save them all and bring them to the monthly meetings. We collect them and turn them in for cash which is donated to Alzheimer’s Association towards our Memory Walk Fundraising. Just another reason to drink more beer and Party with a Purpose!!! Ink Cartridges: What do you do with your empty ink cartridges? Bring them to the next meeting, we collect these and donate them to local schools that get $3.00 per cartridge for school supplies.
The “Not-Bored” of Directors meets the 2nd Wednesday of each month. If you have any ideas that you would like the board to look into, please contact any Board Member with your thoughts. Volunteers are always needed. If you are interested in getting more involved, please let us know!
