Thank you for your faith and

confidence in me. It is a great

honor and privilege to be your

High Priest and Prophet. Your

Potentate and Elected Divan

will be working hard this year

putting on Gun Shows, Parades,

and making small changes in

how we do things that will bene-

fit and help our temple and the

nobility. In my club visits, I

have been asking the club’s offi-

cers to remember that beforethey can hold a road block or pa-

per drive, they must have ap-

proval from the Potentate. This

protects the club and it will

bring them under the protection

Of our insurance. Also, there

are only two types of road

blocks, One is for the Circus

and the other is for our Hos-

pitals. Clubs cannot do a

road block to benefit their

club.

Contact our recorder and he

will get the right information

to you. It is always a pleas-

ure to visit the Clubs and

seeing everyone wearing

their FEZ, although, I have

visited a club where this is

not practiced. The FEZ

should be worn by all nobles

of the Mystic Shrine at allmeetings.

Hi Nobles!

Hope everyone is doing well.

I had a great time at the In-

stallation of Officers and

made it through my first

Stated. I do want to tell you

I was nervous because of the

 job of the Oriental Guides

that have went before me.

My Lady Sandy is doing

much better each day in re-

covering from knee replace-ment and is ready to start

visiting the clubs and units

with me.

Nobles, please make sure

your club or unit is submit-

ting articles for the oleikan.

Noble Roger is working hard

to improve the paper. Your

articles will help get the

word out about your activi-

ties and fundraisers. The

more participation the bet-

ter our publication will be.

Lady Sandy and I are also in

the preliminary stages of

procuring a Kentucky

Shrine License Plate. Once

we get all the particulars,

we will be sharing the infor-

mation.

I look forward to the Hot

sands on March 6, and to

attending Oriental Guide

School in Tampa

Ill Sir Chuck has a realtreat in store for nobility

this year in a Potentates

trip.

This years trip will be a bus

tour of Charleston, Savan-

nah Jekyll Island and Pi-

geon Forge. Included in the

price of the trip will be

Transportation, lodging,

Step-on Guides, Breakfasteach morning, Trolley tour,

Ft Sumter Boat ride taxes

and luggage Tips.

Day 1-2, This Morning we

board our modern motor

coach at the pick up point in

Kentucky and get to know

or reacquainted with the

other travelers as the jour-

ney leads through Ashevilleand on towards South Caro-

lina. Charleston is our des-

tination for two nights and

it is considered a show place

of the southeast. The

homes, historic shrines, old

churches, lovely gardens,

winding streets and intri-

cate iron lace gateways that

all lend to her charm and

dignity. The stories of how

Charleston has survived

wars, Hurricanes, and epi-

demics make for a very in-

teresting city tour with our

step-on guide. The after-

noon of the second day will

be highlighted with a boat

ride to Fort Sumter. Of

course it would not be com-

plete without adequate timeat the Old Market Place in

downtown Charleston.

Day 3-5 We head down the

coast to a wonderful city

called Savannah, America’s

first planned city. On arri-

val, we once again pick up a

professional guide to show

us the sights of this very

charming his-toric city. It

was estab-

lished in 1773

and later be-

came Geor-

gia’s first

Capital city.

 You’ll certainly enjoy the

legends and history of this

fine southern city from ourtour. There will be plenty of

time to enjoy the shops and

restaurants down on the

river walk in Savannah on

the 4th day. A pretty nice

time don’t you think? On

the 5th day we travel south

along the coast of Georgia to

an area called the Golden

Isles with it’s vast marsh-

lands, pretty rivers and rug-ged beaches. After arriving,

we are treated to a trolley

tour of the Jekyll Island

Historic Landmark District,

one of the nations largest

restoration projects. The

Rockefellers, Vanderbilt's

and J.P. Morgan built

“grand Cottages” along the

240-acre river edge and theyare really something to see.

After lunch in the area, we

tour St. Simons Island and

enjoy the grounds and ceme-

tery of the beautiful and his-

toric Christ Church. Before

leaving the area, we will

stop at the old lighthouse for

photographs and shopping.

We return to Savannah forlodging which

means we have

not had to fool

with suitcases

for a few days.

Day 6 Depending

on the time you

wish to have in Pigeon

Forge, There are at least

two or three routes we cantake from Savanna. Regard-

less, it will be a nice ride to

a town that was primarily a

farming community until

1940, when adjacent Great

Smoky Mountains National

Park, whose headquarters is

10 minutes away, was dedi-

cated. Today, Dolly Parton

has turned the area into a

circus atmosphere whichmeans there’s many things

to do.

Day 7 we return to Ken-

tucky with a few photos be-

cause this is a real memory

maker. Please come and be

a part of the fun with us.

Potentates Trip this year to be a real blast!May 24th through May 30

 WHY THE NAZIS FEARED FREEMASONS

Franklin, and Simon Bolivar led

such revolutions against aristo-

cratic power. It was natural, then,

for a totalitarian regime such as

Nazi Germany to want to seek out

and destroy the organization. As

U.S. Supreme Court justice Robert

H. Jackson, the chief prosecutor at

the Nuremburg war crimes trial

observed,”...many persecutions un-

dertaken by every modern dictator-

ship are those directed against Free

Masons {sic}.”

Justice Jackson understood, as did

Hitler, that members of such an

organization were not likely to coop-

erate with the oppressive police

states necessary for the survival of

a dictatorship. As such, Freema-

sons were regularly put to death by

the SS.

(continued from Jan-Feb edition of

the Oleikan)

Hitler was more afraid of the basic

tenets of freemasonry, which decree

that personal political freedom and

human dignity are the rightful

foundations of all human society. The Nazis perceived Masons as a

threat because the group defined

human freedom in terms that

supersedes feelings of nationalism

or racial allegiance. Many Freema-

sons were known as leading figures

of the Enlightenment. Men such as

George Washington, Benjamin

 Vidalia Onion Pie

A  Vidalia onion is a sweet onion of certain varieties, grown in a production area defined by law in Georgia and by

the United States code of Federal Regulations (CFR). The varieties include the Hybrid yellow, granex, varieties of

granex parentage, or other similar varieties recommended by the Vidalia Onion Committee and approved by the

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture.

The onions were first grown near Vidalia, Georgia, in the early 1930s. It is an unusually sweet variety of onion, due

to the low amount of sulfur in the soil in which the onions are grown. Mose Coleman is considered the person that

discovered the sweet Vidalia Onion variety in 1931.

Georgia's state legislature passed the "Vidalia Onion Act of 1986" which authorized a trademark for "Vidalia On-

ions" and limits the production area to Georgia or any subset as defined by the state's Commissioner of Agriculture.

 What is a Vidalia Onion?

CINCINNATI -- "We lost every-

thing, but all that can be re-placed," said Angela Cooper as

she sat next to her 4-year-old son

in the acute care unit of Shriners

Hospital for Children Cincinnati

Monday. "He can never be re-

placed."

Landon Cooper, 4, sat quietly next

to his mother at the small table,

eating chocolate chip cookies and

drinking punch. He had just fin-

ished opening up the presents

given him during his "discharge

party."

Landon goes home today, but his

recovery is far from complete. The

second- and third-degree burns he

suffered from a house fire in De-

cember covered 50 percent of his

body.

He has undergone skin grafts, had

his pinky fingers amputated and

has undergone therapy tostrengthen his mobility skills. He

can walk now, can pick up things

using the palms of his hands -- he

will have another surgery for the

skin grafts on his fingers -- and he

can talk. He agreed he is excited

to see his siblings, who he hasn't

seen since the day of the fire be-

cause of H1N1 concerns, and nod-

ded when asked if he plans to

share his presents with them.

The Coopers' home on Kentucky

11 burned in December. The fire

started near the location of the

Christmas tree, though the lights

on the tree have not officially been

ruled the cause of the fire.

 Angela and Aaron Cooper were

asleep in the bedroom while

Landon slept on the living room

couch. The three other children

were not present when the fire

started.

 Angela Cooper said the smoke

detector did not go off.

"I just happened to wake up to allthe cracking and popping," she

said.

 Angela Cooper woke her husband

and together they escaped from

the residence through the back

door. They could not get through

the flames in the hallway to the

living room.

As Angela Cooper ran to a

neighbor's house to call 911,

Aaron Cooper ran to the front

door and kicked it open. Aaron

Cooper said when the air hit the

fire, the flames shot up even big-

ger.

Despite the danger to himself,

 Aaron Cooper entered the resi-

dence.

"I couldn't see anything," Aaron

Cooper said, describing the heavy

smoke in the house. Fortunately,he knew the layout of the house

and where his son had been lying.

"I felt him on the back, picked him

up," Aaron Cooper said, then

somehow managed to find his way

to the door.

 Aaron Cooper suffered minor

burns, but Landon's injuries were

extensive.

Angela Cooper said her son does

not remember the fire, though he

knows his injuries were caused by

a fire. "He was in shock," she

said.

The parents just informed Landon

of the incident a few days ago. All

Landon knew before was that he

had been hurt and needed to get

better.

 As he recuperated, Landon's par-

ents were there for him, providing

him whatever comfort they could

and encouraging him in his ther-

apy and treatment.

 Angela and Aaron Cooper also

had to learn how to care for their

son, including the hour-long proc-

ess of bathing him and the twice-

daily 30 minutes of therapy.

"They taught me to be independ-

ent with him," Angela Cooper

said. "He's doing really good.

Shriners is the best hospital for

burn victims."

Landon has left Shriners Hospi-

tals for Children just once since

he arrived and that was to visit a

nearby aquarium as his pre-

discharge outing. He said his fa-

vorite animals were the sharks

and penguins. He also got to have

a parrot sit on his arm.

Angela Cooper said she has prom-

ised to take him to Chuck E.

Cheese's once he leaves Shriners

Hospitals for Children.

The family will stay in a motel in

 Aberdeen, Ohio, for about a

month as they wait as their new

home, a mobile home provided by

their landlords, John and Jill

Kelly, is prepared. Angela Cooper

said staying at Brown's Motel in

 Aberdeen keeps the family close

together, as her three other chil-

dren are staying with her sister in

apartments nearby. Her mother

also lives minutes away.

"Angela and Aaron Cooper agree

what their son and family experi-

enced is a nightmare they would

wish on no one. "Makes you

smile," said Aaron Cooper.
