I’d like to kick off this month’s column with a big thank you to everyone who attended ZONC’s Gathering at Blackhawk Automotive Museum on June 25. Despite near triple-digit temperatures, the event was a resounding success, with all stripes of Datsun and Nissan sports cars represented both on the plaza and in the lower parking lot. From participants to passersby, all the feedback I received was unanimously positive.
Another big thank you, of course, is due to Vice President Linda Williams, who organized the Gathering, which included a private tour of the museum. Hopefully, we’ll hold additional gatherings, if not the annual car show, at the museum in the future.
There are two other major events just around the corner, the first being the annual picnic on Aug.28 at Coyote Point Recreation Area in San Mateo. Be sure to RSVP by Aug. 19 to [email protected]. The Annual Car Show at Brisbane Marina will follow on Sept. 10. The deadline to order a T-shirt and qualify for a price break is Aug. 22 ($15 for members and $25 for non-members; after that, the cost jumps to $30 for all).
The show, as I’ve mentioned in previous columns, is the club’s premier event and not to be missed.
Finally, with August upon us, it’s also time to start thinking about nominations for the next executive board. The club’s continued success lies in the hands of this group of people.
Between landing a new job in January and welcoming a baby girl in May, it’s been a whirlwind of a year, but serving as your president has been one of the highlights. I can’t think of a better group of people to share a love of cars with, and I look forward to doing so for many more years to come.
Thanks for reading. See you on the road soon.

What a great day! Z Owners of Northern California met up at the Blackhawk Auto Museum for a gathering of 37 pre-registered cars from our members and guests. There were 14-240Zs, 2-260Zs, 1-280Z, 1-280ZX, 10-300ZXs, 1-510, 1-Roadster, 3-350Zs, 3-370Zs and an Aston Martin DB7. We had a wonderful representation of most of the models and years, including a beautiful RHD ( right-hand drive) 240Z.
The day began about 8AM with getting the waivers signed and cars organized by the areas they would be parking in. Thanks to Mary and Jason for organizing the lower lot and to Ken for helping get 16 cars up to the Blackhawk Plaza for parking.
Much to our surprise, the museum was opened ½ hour early at 9:30AM for our car event attendees. Nora (Blackhawk employee) had also arranged for a museum tour at 10AM by two
Z-Gathering at the Blackhawk on June 25th
docents that were very entertaining and knowledgeable about the beautiful collection of cars in the museum. Please see the pictures that Bob and Jason have put on our website. By the end of the tour when everyone returned to their cars, the sun was blazing and it was getting very warm. After lots of visitors mingled throughout the cars on the plaza and in the lower lot, most of the group had decided to call it a day by 1PM and begin the trek back home.
Thanks to everyone for their support to make this a very successful event. Many comments were made about how much people liked the venue and suggestions were made to hold our annual car show at Blackhawk in the future. I believe this is something that we could possibly do and we will discuss it at future meetings. Please let us know what you think! All comments are welcomed.
