� The single biggest problem facing the nuclear industry is

� Unit costs
� Public acceptability
� Environmental Issues
� Technological Issues
� The main issue is staffing the industry with qualified individuals
� This is a global challenge
� GSE first faced and addressed the problem in the US

� GSE Systems is building the AP1000 Simulators for Westinghouse
� Working with the members of the AP1000 Builders Group
� Each new unit will require approximately 500 qualified
staff members (managers, engineers, operators, technicians, health physicists…)
� Operators are the biggest concern because of the long lead times needed to find and qualify the required
number.
� GSE is working with Southern Nuclear Company and
has developed two new product lines

British Energy to provide a training solution for
tomorrows engineers and operators
� Each of the 8 to 12 new units will require
approximately 500 qualified staff members

� GSE Systems introduces the VPanel simulator
� The Generic VPanel PWR Simulator is a 3 loop, ~900 Mw electric power plant
� The simulator load used in the Generic VPanel is a ANSI 3.5 load currently in use by a US Nuclear Power Plant.

� GSE introduced the Operator Jump Start Training
Program that includes:
� A comprehensive course of studies on fundamental sciences
� An intensive course on the major systems of a typical commercial nuclear power facility
� Hands on operation of the facility using the VPanel Simulator

� GSE Systems initiated the Operator Jump Start program at AugustaTechnical College
� We developed a VPanel simulator using the Vogtle ANSI 3.5 simulator load
� We are in the process of getting our courses approved for college credit by the Georgia College Board – the fundamental science course have already been approved
� We are running our second course for operations personnel with acontract to run 6 more over next 3 years.
� Southern Nuclear Company as asked for a proposal to develop and run courses for operations managers, engineers, and maintenance managers.
� The objective of the operator course is two fold first familiarization of the commercial nuclear industry and provide the customer with a sense of there employees to successfully pass a license exam.
