The new Cayenne GTS
In developing the new Cayenne
GTS, our engineers were able
to give their technical preferences
free rein. Thus, the goals were
quickly defined: more power,
more agility and even more
dynamic handling. In short: more
sportiness – both technically and
optically.
Unmistakable.Even when stationary.
As soon as you see the new
Cayenne GTS, you will sense its
latent power. The front and rear
ends are both based on the
Cayenne Turbo. The generously
proportioned air intakes guarantee
an optimum supply of cooling air.
Bar-shaped light units with
integrated indicators and marker
lights in the outer air intakes ensure
an unmistakable look: on the new
Cayenne GTS they are arranged
horizontally. Just one glance at the
standard 21-inch Cayenne sports
wheels, and the considerable
lateral acceleration potential is
obvious.
The new special colours are a
further special feature. The new
Cayenne GTS is the only vehicle
in the Cayenne series that is
available in GTS red and nordic
gold metallic. Both colours lend
the design an impressive sporty
touch.

All the performance you could want: The drive.
The new Cayenne GTS comes with
a power-enhanced 4.8-litre V8
naturally aspirated engine featuring
direct fuel injection (DFI) and
VarioCam Plus, a 2-in-1 engine system
for adjusting the intake camshafts
and changing the valve lift of the
intake valves. The air intake system
has been redesigned, offering both
increased performance and
impressive efficiency at the same
time. In figures: 298 kW (405 bhp)
at 6,500 rpm and a maximum
torque of 500 Nm at 3,500 rpm.
With manual transmission, the
vehicle accelerates from 0 to
100 km/h in just 6.1 s. The top
speed is 253 km/h. The sports
exhaust system, fitted as standard,
also produces a rich sound.
Tremendous dynamism for the road.
A further special feature guarantees
consistent sportiness: the electronic
Porsche Active Suspension
Management (PASM) and the sporty
steel spring suspension are fitted
as standard (pneumatic suspension
on request). By lowering the
Cayenne GTS, the vehicle’s centre
of gravity is now even lower – with
the steel spring suspension, 24 mm
compared to the Cayenne and the
Cayenne S. This improves driving
stability even at high speeds.
Optionally available: The Porsche
Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC), an
active anti-roll system that anticipates
and significantly reduces the vehicle’s
lateral inclination during cornering.
Performance and comfort are both
improved, thus also – the driving
pleasure.
From a sports car to a high-performance sports car. Fancy a bit more sportiness?
Activating the sport button, fitted as
standard, switches the Cayenne GTS
from comfort- to sports-oriented
tuning: This result gives the engine
response more snap. PASM and the
optional Tiptronic S are switched
to sports mode, thereby improving
contact with the road and ensuring
the perfect line.
The interior: Exceptionally sporty.
And the interior? Tailored to the
driver’s every need. New electrically
adjustable 12-way sports seats with

High performance, low output. Not
a contradiction in terms, but rather
cutting-edge technology. The
Cayenne GTS’s direct fuel injection
(DFI) significantly increases engine
efficiency, while at the same time

reducing fuel consumption. VarioCam
Plus, a 2-in-1 engine system, for
adjusting the intake camshafts and
changing the valve lift of the intake
valves, also noticeably reduces fuel
consumption and exhaust emissions.
Moreover, the excellent aerodynamics
also positively influence fuel economy.
The new Cayenne GTS is equipped
with state-of-the-art exhaust technology.
Porsche and the Environment
It meets the strict exhaust standards:
in Europe EU 4 and in the USA
ULEV (LEV2 – ULEV). The result is
exemplary.
The Cayenne GTS proves that, in
its vehicle category, even powerful
sports cars can achieve moderate
emission values. This is only possible
given a high-tech catalytic converter
system comprising a pre- and main
catalytic converter on each exhaust
tract. By rapidly heating up the
catalytic converter soon after
ignition, it is possible to attain a
maximum exhaust gas cleaning
temperature – for improved pollu-
tion reduction. Further important
aspects in the reduction of exhaust
emissions are the stereo lambda
control circuits. Each of the two
cylinder banks has its own separate
lambda circuit, enabling the electronic
engine management system to
determine and set the optimum air/
fuel, thus ensuring that the
catalytic converters function reliably.
Maintenance: an extremely rare occurrence.
In our quest for perfection, we also
took a good look at maintenance
costs. Even the trip to the garage
in the new Cayenne GTS is fun,
Porsche has done everything in its
power to make it one that is seldom
made. Various maintenance tasks
have been reduced to a
minimum by the use of durable and
hard-wearing materials. Components
that do not need replacing do not
need to be disposed of either, which
makes it possible to use resources
responsibly and thereby lessen the
burden on the environment, in addi-
tion to saving both time and money.
The new Cayenne GTS has been
designed to use fuel containing up
to 10% ethanol. This improves CO2
values, since the biofuel ethanol
is made out of plants, which absorb
CO2 from the atmosphere as they
grow. Power at all costs? This is
inconceivable for the engineers
at Porsche. The proof: The new
Cayenne GTS is also highly
sophisticated when it comes to
environmental compatibility. n
Respect required. The new 911 GT2.A new 911 GT2 is always an
exception to the rule. In every
respect. In developing it,
Porsche had to top everything
that had previously been
possible. This meant thinking
out of the box. The result: the
most powerful road-licensed
911 ever.

The new 911 GT2.
Its heart: the engine, based on
the 911 Turbo’s boxer engine: 6
cylinders, 3.6-litre displacement,
VarioCam Plus and biturbocharging
with variable turbine geometry
(VTG) for a more responsive
turbocharger, even at low engine
speeds. However, that is about all
these two engines have in common.
Because this engine delivers more
power –much more: a massive
390 kW (530 bhp) at 6,500 rpm.
The maximum torque is 680 Nm.
Impressive, there can be no doubt
about it. As is the 911 GT2’s
acceleration: 0 to 100 km/h in just
3.7 s. Its top speed is 329 km/h
and it laps the Nordschleife of
Nürburgring – a record for street
legal cars – in just 7:32 minutes.
This is with the regular road
suspension set-up and PASM in
the normal mode.
How was this achieved? By
increasing performance and
efficiency. In particular, by
modifying the turbocharger: The
flow-optimised turbine and the
compressor were adapted to
The 6-speed manual transmission
of the new 911 GT2 is specially
designed to handle the powerful
engine performance. Gear lever
travel is short and precise. For
maximum acceleration from a
standing start, Porsche is for the
first time using a new system for
conventional manual transmission
in a standard production vehicle:
the Launch Assistant. How does it
work? Press both the clutch and
accelerator pedal while the vehicle
is stationary. Once boost pressure
of approx. 0.9 bar is achieved,
release the clutch as quickly as
possible and forget everything that
you thought you knew about thrust.
Racing or touring – it makes no difference.
The Porsche Stability Management
(PSM) has been improved and
readjusted especially for the new
911 GT2. In additional to ABS,
it now comes with 2 automatic
control systems: Stability Control
(SC) and Traction Control (TC). The
meet the colossal performance
requirements – for more efficient
turbocharging. Added to this is
an entirely redesigned expansion
intake manifold that redefines
existing air intake principles for
turbo engines. Equally decisive is
the optimised throughput of the
new rear silencer, which for the
first time is constructed out of
especially light-weight titanium.
The rear-wheel drive guarantees
driving dynamics that are typical of
motor sports. The uncompromising
lightweight construction keeps the
overall weight low, and enables a
power-to-weight ratio of just
2.72 kg/bhp.
Stability Control (SC) controls the
transverse dynamics. The Traction
Control (TC) with the integrated
functions ABD (automatic brake
differential), TCS (traction control
system) and EDC (engine drag
torque control) controls the
longitudinal dynamics. What makes
the PSM of the new 911 GT2 so
special is that the control adjustments
of these two systems take place
relatively late, and can for the first
time be deactivated in two stages
– for deliberate sporty handling.
The transverse dynamism is not
reactivated in either stage, even
when braking hard within the
ABS control range. This functional
and shift strategy, specially
developed for the 911 GT2,
enables racing driving dynamics –
for individual demands for extreme
performance on the race track.
We should note: you don’t have
to use the full potential of the new
911 GT2, but you may, provided
that you are able to. n

Design Studio. We are paying
tribute to this anniversary with
a special model that combines
the philosophy of both Porsche
and Porsche Design: Impressive
technology, coupled with an
unrivalled styling. The Cayman S
Porsche Design Edition 1.
The Cayman S Porsche Design Edition 1.
It is powered by a 3.4-litre 6-cylinder
boxer engine capable of delivering
217 kW (295 bhp). Maximum torque:
340 Nm between 4,400 and
6,000 rpm. The car manages the
sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in a
breathtaking 5.4 seconds. The top
speed: 275 km/h. The Porsche
Active Suspension Management
(PASM) comes as standard. The
body has been lowered by 10 mm.
The 19-inch Turbo wheels with
5 mm wheel spacers impressively
round off the sporty appearance.
Black. Typical Porsche Design.
The powerful, striking appearance
of the Cayman models stands out at
first glance. With the Cayman S
Porsche Design Edition 1, a further
component has been defined. A host
of design-specific elements have
been conceptually harmonised. The
paintwork: Black all over. Matt black
design stripes set striking tones. The
front apron. Black. The door handles:
black. The lateral air intakes: black.
The windshield? Thanks to the
integrated grey top-tint, it fits in
harmoniously into the overall picture.
The cabin’s high degree of comfort
is impressive – and exceptional
design; with the latter taking centre

Rally Transsyberia 2007 –not for the faint-hearted.The Rally Transsyberia 2007
promised to take rallying back
to basics, and it certainly
delivered. By the end of the
race, the valiant two-man teams
and their battered vehicles had
endured no less than 7,100
kilometres which included
camping in tents in the bitter
cold nights of the Gobi Desert.
24 Porsche Cayennes started
at Moscow’s Red Square
overcoming rough terrains,
However, for the Singaporean team
comprising of Eddie Keng and
Pradeep Paul the long-distance rally
was truly a baptism of fire. Although
the pair had completed numerous
overland drives, they had never
battled in a rally before.
After driving thousands of
kilometres through extremely harsh
terrains, over fields littered with
basketball-sized rocks and slippery
mud-tracks, the pair learnt that
intelligent driving and maintaining
the car surpassed sheer speed in
a rally. Notwithstanding the rough
terrain, they were impressed
with the Cayenne’s powerful
performance.
Despite a steady start, the pair
got stuck in a waist-deep water
crossing mid-way through the
event. When Pradeep opened
the door to get a tow, he allowed
water to flood the cabin and it got
into the crucial electronics of the
Cayenne S Transsyberia, causing
the traction control to malfunction.
They carried on in spite of the
damaged electronics and traction
control. Two days from the finish,
they punctured the oil sump after
sliding into a ditch. Mechanics tried
to make the necessary repairs,
difficult orienteering and more, to
finish the rally two weeks later in
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. The limited
edition Cayenne S Transsyberia
proved that it can compete with
the best, sweeping all 3 places on
the podium. Rod Millen and Richard
Kelsey emerged champions 17
minutes ahead of team Italy 1
of Antonio Tognana and Carlo
Cassina. Adel Abdulla and Norbert
Lutteri racing for Qatar came in
third, 23 minutes adrift of the
winners.
but they ran out of time and had to
deliver the bad news to Eddie and
Pradeep – that their rally was over.
Co-driver Pradeep said, “Sitting
in the same vehicle in exceptional
circumstances over more than
7,000 km you get very attached to
it. In fact, I felt sad when I handed
over the keys – almost as though
I was saying goodbye to an old
friend!”
The Cayenne S Transsyberia was
modified to include a roll cage for
the interior, coarsely studded all-
terrain tyres and a multi-component
underbody guard to boost its
off-road capabilities. It was also
equipped with a navigation system
specifically for off-roading, a
Tripmaster computer, and two
one-man tents.
Ultimately, the unsung heroes of
this marathon were undoubtedly
the ten Porsche mechanics
that accompanied the rally in
four Cayennes and two trucks.
They accomplished the almost
impossible, putting five heavily
accident-damaged Cayennes back
on the road overnight after leg 9,
and sometimes working up to 40
hours without sleep. Not one of the
24 Cayennes since start retired
with a technical defect, though six
Porsche teams had to abandon the
rally – all due to accidents, where
luckily no one was badly hurt. n

The battle intensifies.

After the first four exhilarating
rounds of the 13-round
Porsche Carrera Cup Asia
2007 (PCCA) in Malaysia, the
series continued at Indonesia’s
3.965 km Sentul Circuit. Fans
saw plenty of drama in round 5
when Cref Motorsports’ Keita
Sawa drove the perfect race
until a miscalculation in the
last turn of the final lap
allowed Briton Tim Sugden
to slip past and take the
chequered flag.
Sugden clearly relished his thrilling
win. “I have to say I enjoyed this
race more than I’ve enjoyed one
for a very long time. Sawa and I
were both quick and absolutely
on the limit throughout the race.”
The next round Sawa’s luck was
no better and after a collision
with Sugden, it was China’s SCC
Racing’s Christian Jones who kept
his cool to take his maiden PCCA
Class A win. Hong Kong’s Marchy
Lee finished third, setting the
fastest lap in the process.
In Class B, Australian Peter Boylan
showed superb form taking two
wins from two starts and going
to the top of the championship
standings.
At the new Goldenport Circuit in
Chengdu, China, Jones had the
perfect weekend dealing with the
slick conditions superbly, winning
both rounds 7 and 8. “I was a bit
apprehensive to begin with. On
the warm up laps I realised the
track had lots of grip and I felt
comfortable in the car. During the
race I kept looking behind me and
there wasn’t anyone there, so I just
kept going as fast as I could. I held
on and brought it home.”
Peter Boylan increased his lead
at the top of the leaderboard for
Class B, taking a win from pole
position, closely followed by Tunku
Hammam and Philip Ma. But in
round 8 it was Philip Ma who took
the win after Boylan, who started
on pole, locked up and went off
the track.
Sugden takes championship lead with Shanghai victory.
The atmosphere was super
charged for round 9 and 10 being
the support race for the 2007
Formula 1TM Sinopec Chinese
Grand Prix in Shanghai. The
circuit’s combination of straight
stretches and treacherous curves
proved the perfect test.
It was Tim Sugden who rose to
the occasion taking a lights-to-
flag victory to inch ahead of Keita
Sawa with whom he was tied on
the leaderboard. The Briton now
has a six point margin at the top of
the Class A classification.
Christian Jones was second,
followed by reigning champion
Darryl O’Young of Team Jebsen
who was disappointed to have
once again not clinched a win on
the Shanghai track.
Said race winner Sugden: “The
race wasn’t as easy as it looked.
The outside didn’t have any grip.
After the start, I concentrated on
pulling out a gap. In that situation
it’s better if it’s wet as you’re more
careful not to make a mistake.”
Meanwhile in Class B, a well-
deserved win went to William “Chip”
Connor ahead of Melvin Choo and
Mok Weng Sun, though Mok now
tops the Class B leaderboard, three
points ahead of Peter Boylan and
four clear of Connor.
The stage has now been set for
a thrilling finish with four drivers
in contention for the Class A title.
The PCCA next heads to Zhuhai
International Circuit in Southern
China for the penultimate race
on November 3-4. The season
Grand Finale takes place on 16-18
November as part of the famous
54th Macau Grand Prix, a thrilling
street race on the Macau Guia
Circuit. n

might just have to start making

new Porsche Centre Saigon
opens early 2008.

Arabia and Singapore, Mr. Klingler
brings with him more than 21 years
of valuable Porsche experience. He
believes that with a new generation
of Vietnamese looking to reward
themselves with luxury cars, the
timing is perfect for introducing the
brand to Vietnam.

located in district 7, from across the

Centre in Ho Chi Minh City, and

stop facility to enjoy the entire

Sales support, Design Driver’s
Selection and additional services will
be managed by an internationally
trained and certified Porsche team.
Mr. Klingler says, “Customers can

model car, a watch, or a T-shirt,
will get to enjoy the entire Porsche

Another Porsche Centre is
earmarked for Hanoi in the near
future with others planned for
Cambodia and Laos thereafter. n

Porsche was rated the number
one brand overall in the United
States in the 2007 Auto-
motive Performance, Execution
and Layout (APEAL) StudySM
conducted by US market
research institute J.D. Power
and Associates.
The study surveyed consumer
satisfaction after the first 90 days
of ownership and among more
than 91,000 purchasers of the
new 2007 model-year cars. The
Porsche Cayman and the Boxster
finished first and second for the
Premium Sporty Car category for
the second year running.
The APEAL study is designed to
complement the J.D. Power and
Associates Initial Quality StudySM
(IQS), which focuses on problems
experienced by owners. Having
been ranked best nameplate in the
Initial Quality StudySM (IQS) as well,
Porsche reaffirmed its standing
in performance and design of
its sports cars, again beating its
worldwide competitors. n
