1-NR NEARNESS OF THE RETURN

The disciples inquired how people could know when the end was near and Christ would be about to return to the earth.

Matthew 24:3


Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying,

“Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”


Is it impossible for us to know the exact date of Christ’s return?

Matthew 24:36 “But of that day and hour no man knows, not

even the angels of heaven, but My Father My Father onlyonly.

Only the heavenly Father knows the day.


Can we know the signs of Christ’s coming?

Matthew 24:32,33

“Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near.


33- “So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near -- at the doors!

It is the privilege and duty of every Christian to know the signs that Christ has given so that we may know when His coming is near, even at the door.


Those who understand the Bible prophecies will KNOW what is to happen just before Christ comes; and when they see those things taking place in these days, THEN THEY KNOW THAT THE GREAT DAY IS APPROACHING.


God’s people will thus be able to SEE WHEN THE GREAT DAY OF THE LORD IS APPROACHING (Heb. 10:25) They will NOT BE IN DARKNESS AND OVERTAKEN BY HIS COMING LIKE A THIEF IN THE NIGHT, IF THEY ARE STUDENTS OF THESE PROPHECIES ( I Thess. 5:4)


What do last day prophecies say?

James 5:1-3

Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming upon you!

Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten.


3- Your gold and silver is corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have heaped treasure in the last days.


Prophecy tells us that in the very last days, when the end is near, the rich will pile up great fortunes, and heap up great treasures and wealth.

Do we see this taking place?


What of the poor in the last days?

James 5:4,8

Indeed the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, cry out; and the cries of the reapers have reached the ears of the Lord of Sabbath.


8- You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.

There is to be suffering on the part of the poor in the last days. These verses also indicate a great struggle between capital and labor.


What happens to knowledge at the end of time?

Daniel 12:4

“But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.”


In the time of the end, knowledge was to be increased. The increase of knowledge during the last 100 years exceeds that of all previous centuries, from the beginning of time.


Anyone 40 years of age has seen an advance in knowledge which exceeds all that people of past generations saw from the time history began. In the day of God’s preparation, the chariots of men were to run like the lightning (Nahum 2:3-5) and this we see in this age of speed.


What about natural disasters in the last days?

Luke 21:11

“And there will be great earthquakes in various places, and famines and pestilences; and there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven.


In the last days, Jesus said there would be fearful calamities. We see this in the increase of earthquakes, hurricanes, floods, tidal waves, droughts, and heat waves which have occurred yearly. The great earthquakes of resent years are part of the signs that show the coming of the Lord is very near.


What about the spiritual life during these last days?

2 Timothy 3:1-5

But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come.


2- For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

3- unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good,


4- traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,

5- having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!


Paul prophesied there would be perilous times in the last days to one’s spiritual life. Among church members there would be a craze for pleasure and a marked decline in true religion. We see all this right now before our very eyes.


What about crime in the last days?

Matthew 24:12

“And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many shall grow cold.

Jesus said that in the last days lawlessness would abound; the land would be full of bloody crimes. (Eze. 7:2,23 , Matt 24:37, Gen. 6:5,11)


Do we see crime today like never before?

This is yet another sign of Jesus soon return!


What is the greatest sign that Jesus’ return is near?

Matthew 24:14

“And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all nations, and then the end will come.


The supreme sign that the end is very near is seen in the fact that God is now sending a special message to all the world to warn the people to PREPARE to meet Christ. (Joel 2:1, Rev. 14:6-11)


What does most of the world think about the soon coming of Christ?

2 Peter 3:3-6

knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts,


4- and saying, Where is the promisepromise of HisHis coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.


5- For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water,

6- by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water.


There will be many who will scoff at the idea of the end being near, just as many people scoffed at Noah’s warning of the coming flood.


What will the nations of the earth be doing during these last days?

Isaiah 2:2-4 Now it shall come to pass in the latter days

That the mountain of the LORD’S house Shall be established on the top of the mountains, And shall be exalted above the hills; And all nations shall flow unto it.


3- Many people shall come and say, “Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, To the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, And we shall walk in His paths.” For out of Zion shall go forth the law, And the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

4- He shall judge between the nations, And rebuke many people; They shall beat their swords into plowshares, And their spears into pruning hooks; Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, Neither shall they learn war anymore.


The nations in the last days will talk about putting an end to war. We see this fulfilled in the great peace movements of our day.


Are nations preparing for war today?

Joel 3:9, 10, 14

Proclaim this among the Nations: “Prepare war! Wake up the mighty men, Let all the men of war draw near, Let them come up.


10- Beat your plowshares into swords And your pruning hooks into spears; Let the weak say, ‘I am strong’”.

14- Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision.


When the day of the Lord is near, the nations will PREPARE FOR WAR AS NEVER BEFORE, and this we see before our very eyes today.


What should we do with all the signs that have been given us?

Mark 13:29

“So you also, when you shall see these things happening, know that it is near -- at the doors!


When we see all these things, we should know that the coming of Christ is at the door, and that we should NOW be prepared to meet HIM.
