Kinetic energy is energy in the form of motion.

Kinetic energy depends on both the mass and the velocity of a moving object.

Potential energy is the stored energy due to an object’s position.

There are 3 types of potential energy.

Elastic potential energy is the energy stored in something that can stretch or compress.

ex) a rubber band or a spring

Chemical potential energy is the energy stored in chemical bonds.

ex) gasoline or food

Gravitational potential energy is the energy stored by objects above the Earth’s surface.
