HYPOTHESIS

We predict that if the emergent layer is not there, birds will no longer have their homes.

The emergent layer provides food for different types of animals, but without the emergent layer animals will have less food and they will starve.

It also provides shade for plants, trees and living creatures, therefore the plants and animals will get burnt and will dry out, as they will have less shade.

EMERGENT

The emergent layer is a high tree section.

It’s the highest out of all the layers.

It provides food for different types of animals.

It provides shade, without shade the plants

can dry out.

Page 4: The native bush

How do emergent trees grow so high?

The reason trees grow so high is because they can get to the light for

them to grow even more!

Page 5: The native bush

Why do birds live in the emergent layer?

Birds live there so they don’t get attacked by all the big animals and

bigger birds.

Page 6: The native bush

What other types of

food can trees grow?

There is more than you think like…

Nectar, leaves, shoots, flowers, insects, flax, seeds, green berries and pollen.

Conclusion

We predicted that if the emergent layer was gone they would have less shade and food and we were correct.

If there was no emergent layer plants would dry out and starve.
