THIRD THURSDAY6 – 8 P.M. | FREE!Enjoy an after-hours experience at the Museum on the Third Thursday of each month. Each program encourages visitor participation through an array of activities, artist talks, musical and dance performances, and gallery walks.

September 19: Cube Roots & Music of GeorgiaCelebrate Georgia’s musical history with local musician Lloyd Buchanan and Cube Roots and enjoy gallery talks about the life of local legend Ma Rainey.

October 17: Snakebite Six & the Artists of Newcomb CollegeFeel the flavor of Dixieland Jazz with the music of Snakebite Six—a virtuoso, Dixieland, All-star band, and take in a gallery talk about the art and artists of New Orleans’ Newcomb College.

November 21: Betsy Eby & the Asherah QuartetArtist Betsy Eby will speak about her work in the Painting With Fire exhibit at 6pm, followed by music by the Asherah Quartet highlighting pieces that inspire Eby creatively.

LUNCH & LECTURE October 2 | 12 – 1 P.M. | FREE! Wigs & Warhol What do wigs and Warhol have in common? Contemporary art and fashion and the works of Warhol will collide as you explore the worlds of art and fashion with the artists of The Paper-Cut-Project, Amy Flurry and Nikki Nye, and Director of Collections and Exhibitions, Kristen Miller Zohn. Then enjoy this fun read, If Andy Warhol had a Girlfriend by Alison Pace, when you get home.

ART & ARTISTBOOK CLUBSeptember 4 | Noon – 1 P.M. | FREE!The Art and Artist Book Club features works of fiction that explore various topics related to the history of art. Museum curators and educators provide a contextual analysis of the art and artists featured in the book of the quarter—prior reading of the book is not required.

Pop: The Genius of Andy Warhol by Tony SchermanPresented by Kristen Miller Zohn, Director of Collections and Exhibitions.

TEEN PRINTMAKINGWORKSHOPSeptember 28 | 11 A.M. – 1 P.M.Instructor: Derek MillsStudents will create a custom print using a variety of cutting techniques and mark making methods to carve a linoleum block to achieve the desired print. Students will learn to preserve and store the block so that it can be used for another round of printing.

Teen Program

PLEIN-AIR/IMPRESSIONISTLANDSCAPE PAINTING October 5 | 1 – 5 P.M.Charles Philip Brooks, one of the most sought-after young Tonalist painters in the country, will lend his talents and lead this workshop. Students will paint landscape subjects in the Museum’s historic Bradley Olmsted Garden in oils, carefully studying light, color, form, and atmosphere directly from nature. A gallery walk through the Museum’s permanent collection will complement the course. All skill levels are welcome; direct, observational painting and poetic painting using Impressionist and Tonalist oil painting techniques will be taught.

FELTING FOR BEGINNERSWORKSHOP October 26 | 1 – 5 P.M.Taking inspiration from the Dare to Wear exhibition, local artist Leslie Shirah will teach the techniques used in felting. Workshop participants will use these skills to create functional & wearable works of art in the form of a felted bead necklace & scarf. SECOND SATURDAY 10 A.M. – 12 P.M. | FREE!September 14: Get dressed up in all your crafty finery and have a photograph made of what you “dare to wear!” Visit the Art Cart and create your own daring accessories. Bring your creativity and make wonderfully wacky wigs and paper bead necklaces! November 9: Drop by the Art Cart and create an abstract mosaic inspired by Columbus native Alma Thomas’ Air View of a Springtime Nursery.

GALLERY TALES:PRE-K EDITION –THE WAY WE GO! October 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 & November 6, 13, 209:30 A.M. – 10:30 A.M. | $1 per student Pre-K students can now participate in the popular Gallery Tales program! The Way We Go! is a 60-minute curriculum-intensive learning experience designed to meet several state contentstandards. Register & pre-pay at columbusmuseum.com at least 3 weeks priorto visit; 60 student maximum per group.

Ask about the Susan Cochran Memorial Bus Fund & scholarship opportunities.

School Program

MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOLGROUP TOURS Tuesdays through Thursdays: 1 – 3:30 P.M. Fridays: 10 A.M. – 5 P.M. Middle and high school classes can choose between guided docent-led tours of the Museum or self-guided tours using suggested tour routes. Guided tours can be customized to cover particular subjects being taught in the classroom. Each of the suggested tour routes is based on state and national standards and meets curriculum objectives for all grade levels.

Guided tours must sign-up and pre-pay ($1 per student) at columbusemuseum.com at least 3 weeks prior to visit; ask about the Susan Cochran Memorial Bus Fund and scholarship opportunities.

Self-guided tours are FREE but not eligible for the Susan Cochran Memorial Bus Fund.

School Program

BOYS & GIRLS CLUB FREE! Boys & Girls Club groups are invited to participate in special group tours and hands-on art making projects at the Museum. Group leaders are encouraged to check the Museum website for programming offerings and dates; these programs are free butpre-registration and a deposit is required to secure the reservation.

Community Program

SCOUT PROGRAMS $5 per Scout The Museum periodically offers programs for both Boy and Girl Scout troops to earn art or history badges. The programs are designed to fulfill requirements to meet specific badges and the Museum will give proper proof of completion for each scout. Check the Museum website often for scout programming dates.

Discover Pop Art and get hands-on in the interactive “Factory” in the Warhol in Southern Collections exhibit, then take this inspiration and create a "Warholed” self-portrait and more!Register at www.columbusmuseum.com by September 10. November 9: Wild & Classic Paper-cut Self-PortraitsVisit the permanent collection galleries to learn about portraiture, then go to the Studio and create a cool self-portrait using scraps of paper and other fun materials. Make either a "wacky" self-portrait or an exact look-alike!Register at www.columbusmuseum.com by November 5.

FALL FESTIVAL October 12 | 11 A.M. – 3 P.M.FREE!The Museum is crazy for creatures for the annual Fall Festival! Create a rad rhino, a terrifying tiger, & more! Stop by the Art Cart & pick up a passport to help you find animals in the Museum. Play animal games, take a break to watch a “creature feature” film, & don’t forget to dress up for the Crazy Creatures Costume Contest!

Contest times are:Ages 0-4, 11 A.M.; Ages 5-7, 12 P.M.; Ages 8-10, 1 P.M.
